My ten years with it tells me you're correct. :D

Too often people are dissatisfied with their site performance and instead of rolling up their sleeves and doing the work necessary to get better performance, they want a magic bullet like a host change, or getting on a CDN.

If your site is bloated and loads slow, neither of these helps one bit.

Changing hosts can be a real pain in the ass and people should really think about compelling reasons for doing it.

For vB especially, be ever mindful of PHP compatibility, and so on...

I have seen more bad reviews about BlueHost than good, but I never tried them.

Yes, just noticed that. Especially censorship... looking at A2 - Iceland host...

For a long time their legacy packages were pretty terrible. And only newer customers rolling onto these packages will have the correct stuff.

The old godaddy plans had insanely out of date php nad MySQL, 5.2.17 and 5.0.19~ respectively.

The deluxe packages are definitely preferable, and are current, and inexpensive.

I really can't imagine anyone using one of their economy packages. But really, you get what you pay for.

To the OP: Are you on economy, or deluxe hosting with GD?

Okay, I have to ask - what about vBulletin's cloud hosting?

Zachery 09-12-2014 03:12 AM

You're paying for a license and our hosting service. It only runs vBulletin 5.

For me 'Inexpensive hosting' means to me not that good hosting
I went through lots of the 'cheaper' options until I found URL JET hosting.

They aren't on the inexpensive side, but you get the best vB hosting and support out there imho.
They have R1 hourly backups which is great as I needed a full database back up for one of my sites and they have one which was only 2 hours old so I lost virtually nothing and they did the full back up for me and it was all done within 30 minutes.

I will never use any other hosting company.

There's 'inexpensive' then there's CHEAP. Cheap is really bad. Inexpensive is serviceable.

Doesn't make much since to spend a ton on hosting when your traffic is low. Deluxe package is $150 annually with unlimited domains, sites, bandwidth and storage. That's annually, not monthly.

The OP's problems will carry on to his next host. He merely has to make the change, then see no change, to learn that.
