As long as you know the link location, there will be no issues.

Just make sure you put the following into the Show Permissions box for the link.

I'm not seeing anything in the code for that, or am I supposed to be looking elsewhere?

When you add a link in the Navigation Manager, there is a field called, Show Permission Name

You add that in there.
