A client of mine still has 3.60 and his site was hacked due to the exploit in that version. I have secured it for now but would like to upgrade his Vbseo package. ofcourse he has no access to the upgrade.

I have a license myself and the latest version. Do you think it is possible to upgrade his site using my license/package?

Can you share your solution please? After all that is what this forum is all about. :D

I would doubt it. But if you want to try, you would have to do a full backup of his site, then try it, so if it blows up, you can restore the backup.

Yeah, I didn't think it would work but it would be the easiest method rather than remove his old version and than mess with redirects, etc.

I have done my best to secure his site but as long as that vbseo file is right there in the forum root it would be fairly easy to hack again.

Anyhow, thanks for the reply.

If your available I could use some help with vbseo. My forums url rewrites aren't working since I upgraded to vb4.2.3 from vb 3.8.1. My vbseo version is 3.6.2. Is there a later version that works with vb 4.2.x? I'm able to get into the vbseo control panel and all the control panel settings are accessible.

so if anyone is available to help i'm pretty good at edits mysql and ssh. I can do whatever is needed if I know what needs to be done.

server specs:
php 5.5
apache 2.2
mysql 5.1
vb 4.2.3

lol wut?

I say that with much irony, reason being "latest version" or not its still outdated and prone to security issues. The company does not exist i.e. no one has been updating it to fix any security issues... :( and yes even at the time your post was made, this was true then and still holds true now.

Check out DB Tech's DBSEO, should be able to find it via google rather quickly I believe the lite version is uploaded here as well. If you do decide to replace with that, do not uninstall vbseo theres a process to this just be patient but remove vbseo for your sake not ours IF not going with dbseo but since you're on 3.x the mod rewrite and friendly urls are not there so dbseo might in fact be your only replacement - gosh I do recall some 3.x url mods similar to vbseo so you may want to look there too, they would have many less features but still may do what you want (most of it).

Hey Thanks... I'm looking into them now. Kinda sucks I can only import if I buy the pro version but I'm OK with it.

There is nothing wrong with the current vBSEO provided you do some updates.

I made some changes to the code and it works perfectly for me.

If you need the changes let me know.

It's old, outdated and no team exist to actively maintain of develop it further. If you could share with everyone how you've updated it to be secure and actively maintain and implement changes to keep it secure (edit: Actually you could do an article here in the articles section truth be told but that's only if you have spare time and feel the need) then I'd have no problem with you making statements such as that but it makes me cringe when you do and I don't mean that offensively please keep reading to see my thoughts on this.

When most assume its ok to use and "you can use the last version they released it still works" to me that is the same as saying "here buddy install this two year old shopping cart software I have a copy of it from two years ago before they started charging and placing copyright in footer, you can use the 2 year old version and its fine" <-- Despite the fact if anyone said that they'd be wrong, I'm sure the new version has updates and more so updates to fix vulnerabilities that have been found since then... case in point this isn't even a situation like that, now we're back to the point of no business/team exist to state (also backed by their company, legal actions that could be taken if required by you the consumer if done wrong etc, and other merits) that its safe and secure to use. That my friend is why I can't trust many when I see that statement made, I may not know their skill level and ability i.e. if they're qualified to upkeep such a script however I do know logic and logic tells me the company is not around anymore and no one is keeping any aspect of it up to date.
