I don't know of a guide like that. I think in general you should leave the default settings. In any case, you might want to check the articles section on this site. For instance, here's an article about styles: www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=256370 . You might want to use the search thing at the top of this page to search for words in article titles to find ones on different subjects.

I sympathize with you, I know it's not easy to figure out what's going on at the beginning, especially if you don't have any web site experience to start, but you have to to keep working at it.

Take a look in the vb Styles section of this website, they wil usually have instructions how to install them.

The piXel premium style with wood background is quite nice for a free style.

If your looking for something specific you may have to pay for a custom style

make sure you update the url settings after you move to root the thing I do is download all files to desktop then upload them to the root change url then delete the old ones in forum folder. But if it is a new install you would be best to delete all and start again
