You haven't posted a link like I requested. And, it would help to have an image of what you want it to look like.

Thanks, but we found that it was search.css which we needed to alter.

We reduced the width from 15 to 12% here:

.threadbit .threadstats {
width:12%;

and were able to increase the width from 20 to 23% here:

.threadbit .threadlastpost, .threadbit .threaddeleted {
width:23%;

This used to be part of search_resultlist template but isn't anymore
