The mod is free. However registration is required to download it.

I would much prefer to use this mod instead on another however the spider thing is what stopped me.

One thing though with enabling spiders that you say you have done. A Google spider may see post #2 or 3 and it gets listed in Google search but when a person clicks on the Google link they can't see the post, only the first one. This could cause your site to be black banned by Google...am I correct in assuming this?

Would it still work with SEO if only the second post in a thread were seen with the message?

Having a long list of posts in a large thread seems like a lot of hits on the DB when just one message displayed with the message would do.
