Cranky Old DOOD 08-01-2001 05:16 AM

Thank you JamesUS..... you seem to be the most mature here. Some of the others seem to have power-struggle issues.
I realized I needed help with a hack, or scripting, that is why I posted here.
I have access to a 2.0.1 board, and see that it still has the 'member-option' to change any information that might be entered into Admin-only-generated fields. So all of you who posted "you need 2.0.1" are obviously wrong about my initial inquiry.

I will seek help from qualified scripters then for a fix to my problem. I have access to them, but thought I would come here first.

Thanks, I suppose

As long as you are on 2.0.1, why not upgrade to 2.0.3? This is a standard feature.

Trust me Cranky Old DOOD, upgrading to 2.0.3 will not do you any good if you only want admins and mods to be able to edit and VIEW the information.

I had a peep at that version and the members still can see what you write about them no matter what options you check in the CP.

You can stop other members from viewing this information but if a member open his own profile there it is.

Needless to say you can't put any information about this member in there if you don't want him to see this himself. As I understand you would like to post something like: "Warned about posting nude pics" or similar and if he does this again and a moderator see this note in his profile he can add to it and alert an admin for actions. At least that is what I would like to use it for.

I also think it would be great if there was an option to choose what group that can view each field I add. You might have other user groups that need some info and what if one admin want to share information about a moderator with another admin?

I realize this complicates things for the developers, but being a programmer myself (not PHP though) I find complications challenging. :p

Actually check again. If you set Hidden to yes and Editable to No, the user can't see it and they can't edit it...it works exactly as intended.

Chilli Beans 08-11-2001 10:37 PM

I'll take your word for it (since I can't test this right now), but I was a member in that test and the admin is a fool anyway. :p

Now suddenly I feel like a fool. :(

PS 1. I really like the new buttons you can use to insert smileys or vB Code in your posts, but wouldn't it be possible to have it insert these things where the cursor is instead of at the end of the post ? Sorry for messing up this thread. ;)

Ps 2. I've been a member on countless of boards and everytime I see the vBulletin trademark at the bottom I feel at home. :)

It does exactly what you want since I added it in because of this thread. You can see it/edit it from the admin/mod control panels.

Cranky Old DOOD 08-12-2001 12:41 AM

tubedog.......
NO, it does NOT work that way!!!
Exactly how much time have you spent testing this????
Did you read my original post at all?

As Chilli Beans has said..... IT DOES NOT WORK THE WAY MY ORIGINAL POST INQUIRED.

No matter what you do to the CP settings, the member can either VIEW the new profile field (in one CP setting) or he can modify the profile field (IN ANOTHER CP SETTING)

Let's get this straight for one last attempt......
and perhaps I will type SLOWER for everyone to get the picture.

I want to make a new profile field where ONLY the admins/supermods can view it. I also want this new field to be editable by ONLY admins/supermods.....NOT by the member that we have added information to.

quite simple actually:
We(admins) see it and can modify the information,
They(member) can never see it or modify the information in the new field...

And Don't try to tell me that it works this way in 203 !!
It doesn't

Freddie Bingham 08-12-2001 01:15 AM

Well it does work and if you care to argue about it any more we will continue once you put your license information into your profile.

Admin 08-12-2001 01:59 AM

DOOD, it works. Maybe for your installation it doesn't, because you did something wrong.

Chilli Beans 08-12-2001 08:23 AM

Or maybe he's related to the admin I was talking about before ? :D
