I installed tat too eva, but what he wants is something like the fav forums hack, where they can click click to a script that keeps track of their favorite threads.
|
oh i see :) would be a nice addition... for me i just don't want to add too much to the functioning of the forum, which would seem like more work for members to do :)

What is the ETA on vbhackers.org so one can just point to it and say "that hack is right there"? |
Yes, but no favorite theards hack. Can I change the forum script to do this?
|
Many boards using the thread bookmar hack. I think an integreted script would be better as the javasript function and not using the database.

I've actually done some thinking on how to adapt the favorite forums hack to do just this.
If it were set up in the same manner, where someone had to click a link to a "myTopics" page, it wouldn't be that great a strain on the database. If I'm thinking this correctly, all you would need is a 2 column table to store a userid and threadid. The actual descriptions for the page could be pulled from the thread table that already exists. The thing I would what to add, though, that might be a little tricky to code, would be that when a person started a topic it was automatically added to the list. Also, instead of using a checkbox on the list like the Fave Forums hack does, I would prefer to have a link inside the topic that could be clicked on to add it, and if it was already on your your list, to remove it. The check to determine whether the topic was already on a user's list and place the approproate link might add a little time to rendering, though. [Edited by Martin on 08-05-2000 at 09:34 PM] |
