I might be interested in creating a new Usergroup, to selectively have them crawl certain forums, but not other (private) ones.

Is there a way that a regular user might be able to spoof being a Crawler, and thus gain inapprioriate access, if I messed around with the Usergroup settings?

it is impossible for regular humans to spoof web crawlers ... if they do, they are proefficients in spoofing, and you can not avoid this... but basically the difference is the software used, and the IP where you are located... it needs both to be recognized as a web crawler.
