I find the trick to avoiding burnout (and I've been close to it before) is to actively participate and enjoy the place. I consider myself a member first and an admin second.

A few rounds of Left 4 Dead or Fortress Forever.

After that I spend time with my family - go to the movies, go fishing, play some computer games, hiking, camping, hunting, gardening.

You have to know what is important in your life. And put those things first.

Take a vacation and tell the staff to hold the fort.

I agree with this as well, my family keeps me so busy, I rarely even step on the front of my forums.
When I visit, it's usually just to check and make sure everything is running like it should.

that's my goal! :D

I just try to do a good job while I am in "work mode" and then when I am not, the moderators hopefully understand that I need time off too.
