At the moment we tend to not implementing this. We feel that it would be more limiting then that it would benefit our members.

If you want you can submit any avatar (set), assuming you have permission from the author. Members are free to use any of the submitted avatars, or an avatar found elsewhere.

Limiting? How can me sending you a pack of avatars for the avatar gallery limit anyone? They get to choose from another defined set, if anything, it's giving the members more choice not li miting them in anyway. I'm not asking that members should have the priveleages to submit pre-defined avatars resulting in sets (partial sets being submitted) I'm asking if it's okay o if staff like a particular set they could view the set and then decide if they want to add it to their already range of avatars that members can choose from. Anyway, I'm quite sure we are still not on the same wave length marco.

It'd never work. Some people would get annoyed because the mods didn't think their avatars weren't good enough etc.

Shelley_c 12-08-2008 01:30 PM

Yeah, I guess that's one way of looking at it. Not me though, I just have to disagree with you just for the hell of it and because i just can.

As always, Feel free to close this thread by thread creators request.

I did this on my site. I have a thread in our Site Suggestions forum and stated the requirement size for the avatars and told users I would upload them for the masses to use if they posted them. It's a music themed site, so we now have tons of avatars for different bands. I think I ended up uploading over 200 avatars in the first 2 days that people were posting their wants.

Shelley_c 12-08-2008 02:47 PM

Yeah, I requested for the thread to be closed Lynne I guess i just didn't put it bluntly enough. I fail to see what you did on another site and what I suggested here has any relevance apart from what I'm getting across from you that it would be too much effort because of the vast amount of avatars you had to upload. Nothing against you, I just didn't really want to hear it as much as you didn't really want to hear me going on about you uploading 200 avatars in as many days.

Anyway, Thread closed by thread starters request thankyou.

Marco van Herwaarden 12-08-2008 02:49 PM

Threads on vB.org are not closed on request, unless there is a special reason.

Shelley_c 12-08-2008 02:58 PM

If a suggestion has not been welcomed and/or it will never be entertained or implemented there is no need to leave a thread opened for further discussion.

That alone is a very good reason.

Another reason, why risk it being bumped at a later date when the decision has been made not to welcome the suggestion. That's another reason.

Both very good valid reasons for you marco.

Wow Shelley, talk about misreading my post. I brought up the 200 avatars to say that this was a very popular thing to do on my site. The users had a lot of fun posting all the avatars for me to add. Yeah, it was a bit of work for me, but I love my users and I'm willing to do things like that for them. Now, if it had continued every day, I think I would have asked them to give me a break.

I was actually agreeing with you that this is a fun thing to do.

As for closing the thread, Marco addressed that issue all ready.

Politics aside... Shelly, the monkeys are cute. :) Have any with a keyboard for us 'code monkeys' instead of a paintbrush?
