Seriously take the advice and dont use Dreamhost for vBulletin, dont pay $3 a month for host, find something reputable and reliable!

My suggestion: Godaddy, haven't had any significant problems with em. :)

I have one final question -- How long does it take to get your licence set up to vB.org and .com?
How quickly you get the license info depends on the payment method you use.

The quickest is with PayPal using the funds in your PayPal account. This should take just a few minutes unless the payment was an eCheck payment, in which case it usually takes 3-5 business days to clear.

The Metacharge credit card option also just takes a few minutes.

The Worldpay credit card option can take up to 24 hours to be verified.

Wire Transfers can take up to 4-6 business days.

And finally checks can take as long as necessary for the check to reach us, be deposited and clear our bank.

I am going to use Paypal. Thank you!

Another question. I read the vBulletin manuel a lot (my dad doesn't get much about vB), and it says that in the Member's Area you have to download vB. Now, there is my question, would you HAVE to download the NEWEST version? Because 3.8 doesn't have a lot of MODS or anything for it yet, and I don't want a beta on a new forum incase it crashes..

i recall seeing a blog post in vbulletin.com that mentioned a few useful things to consider in a host. One interesting piece of advice was to pick a host that dosn't require too much payment/contract term up front - that way if they suck you can move easilly without loosing months of paid hosting.

You answer your own question actually... download the latest STABLE version, as indicated in the Download area once you're licensed... anyway this is the first version you will be able to see, so there is no chance to miss your try.

Also, the versions 3.8 of all mods will be easy to find once 3.8 is released, because the coders are waiting for the official announcement before updating their work, but they do it very quickly once released... a day or two and you find 300 to 500 more mods in that section...

If you want you can still download all available versions once you have purchased a license.

PS Most 3.6/3.7 modifications will also work on 3.8.

CodingMonkey 10-29-2008 11:02 AM

You can download any version from somewhere around 2.3.11 I believe. (meaning you can download 3.0.x, 3.5.x, 3.6.x, 3.7.x, 3.8 beta 1)

Thank you everyone!
