There is something similar here, but there have been some comments made that it isn't using pre-existing vb code and therefore isn't as efficient as it could be.

And thanks for the explanation about the code here. I didn't realize it was all tied together either, although it really makes sense to do so. (I know I can't split up some of the mods I've written for my site for the exact same reason.)

Just the unlicensed message is pre-defined. And the modification system is tied to the license check system - meaning we'd have to manage two different versions if it was ever released.

That really is not vBadvanced or anyone else's fault in particular. That's due to a lack of imagination on the part of vBadvanced users. Lots of different looks can be achieved with vBadvanced if creative people put their mind to it. I still don't understand what you have against installing vBadvanced and just using the Poll module by itself. It's real easy to delete/add modules in the program.

As far as modifications go, I don't think I've seen a comparative version, but I'd like the ability to "tag" threads as they do with Installed/Uninstalled/Downloaded/Tagged prefixes and then be able to put the View by Criterion option in the User CP. I don't run a modifications site, but I can see where I could make use of the feature for other reasons as long as I could change the prefix names.

Would that be the Canned Replies mod for 3.7?

Yes. Although I see he's made several revisions to the mod since the initial comments were made.

I've always just made use of replacement variables for moderators, regular users will never guess them as we use a format like

{@no_permission@} = Sorry the reason you can not do this action is because you do not have the proper permissions, See this thread here with more information.

Works wonders!

I don't use replacement variables, but I did write a replacement plugin for certain words that the mods write (like if they write Band Restriction Policy, it is rewritten to be a linked to the Band Restriction Policy in the FAQ). I didn't use replacement variables because that replaces words that everybody writes and also the words anywhere in the site and I only wanted it for mods in posts. I have actually found that it would work for phrases also, so I *could* use it to do what I want. But, having a little drop-down to input the whole post would be nicer.

1) You'd have to dramatically alter vBadvanced so that is does not look like everyone else's site out there.

2) Why would I want to install vBadvanced's complete modification for one option? All that hasn't been released on .org is the Poll option, and maybe latest blog on front page but I bet if I did a search that mod has been released to. I'm not gonna give vbadvanced a link from my site because I used one option of there 10 modules.

3) Even if I did I'd have to pay vBadvanced for branding free option just to use one module of 10, I don't need the others, I only need Poll. PLUS, many other members have asked for it, it's not just me.

Speaking for vBulletin.com, there is no such thing as canned responses built into the forum software there. If there was it would be in the released software. We don't run any modifications on vBulletin.com.

All my replies and tips on how to resolve issues are stored in a Microsoft Onenote notebook that I reference and update as needed. Others have their own means of storing them.

The only "canned" message on vb.org is the "unlicensed" message.

nexialys 10-08-2008 02:09 PM

and the "you are not a moderator, nexia, so calm down"... lol
