That's what it comes down to, doesn't it? The motivation for the "correction" and the degree of application. I'm not saying that there isn't a time and place to "correct" a child; as I said, I have 5 and I would be lying if I said I never used a spank (or swat) as a method of getting their attention. But what concerns me as a parent is the impact of repeated spankings, especially as a child gets older - or when people get to where they strike out at a child when another form of correction would have worked just as well. Or a parent who strikes a child in anger and not as a form of correction but then labels it a "spanking".

I've been a proponent of mandatory sterilization for years.
What we truly need is an entire generation skipped to both reduce the surface population as well as stop the evolution of stupidity. I say a good 30 years with no births allowed world wide would fix this problem. Hooray for me ! |

Not only is there a lack of discipline in todays kids, but I'd never talk like that in front of my parents not out of fear of getting beat, but out of sheer RESPECT which seems to be lost in todays youth as well

You go to the stores today, kids are running around screaming with there parents just ignoring it. I think back to what would have happened if that would have been me and my mom.
Answer? My mom would have beat my a$$ so hard in front of everyone in that store. I would do that to my kid to though. I find it pathetic that people think that parents do not have the right to hit their kids. They will learn how to behave in public if you do so ;) |
