i suppose the guy told you about ico-content because it's safe passage to piracy to have an excuse...

if you really think he pirated ico-content to make his piracy, you can contact us:

hmm ok. I will send you the details.

Actually my fault also. I wasn't expecting someone to use the rss feeds to start posting them en masse on his site without any linkbacks. Our memberbase is gonna be annoyed but can't be helped.

Btw out of curiosity, does yahoo allows you to copy their content(yahoo answers) on forums?

It does not matter what tools they use, they are just tools and you can not blame the manufactor of a tool because it is abused by someone. The only one responsible is the one that copies the content.

If you follow the Developpers License, sure, that's the goal of the dev engine actually... http://developer.yahoo.net/

correct,
depends on what is the procedure thats used for ripping though. I think the software automatically replaces the main site name. I still can't believe what honest use can be of that software. Legitimate copying can be done via direct DB callback's also if the aim is to maintain same content on two different forums.

Here is from the FAQ
http://www.icomotion.com/ico-content/faq.html#G14

Community Booster, more of a rip someone else to boost a new one. lol

Lol, well when people want to get active sites, one of the first things they look for is good posts to attract people. They do this any way they can, even if they have to mess up someone else's forum :(

it is not bad publicity, it's just a comment about the use of it as you thought it was... you did not try to flame the script... :)

and btw, like we always say in french "parlez-en en bien ou en mal, mais parlez-en!"... better way to advertise it is to talk about it, pros and cons!

it is not "my" product actually, i'm not even involved in its development.. i'm just the grumpy old guy of the project...;) you always need a grumpy old man in projects like that to have someone else's opinion (even the devil's advocacy!)

oh, and btw, if the guy actually use ico-content and recoded it or have a hacked version to really grab websites content, a simple action will be made... his site have a dedicated license of ico-content, and he did not follow the rules... tada!

Well dang.. that dude is asking me for help with something (unrelated to this topic) and now that I see that he is causing problems with a fellow coder/community member, Im not going to support his wants and needs. Thanks for pointing this out.

haha. true ;)

Btw he doesn't need any tool to copy anyway(so he might be bluffing about ico-content). As you rightly pointed out, he can do pretty well just by using the vb's own rss feed poster.

Moral of the Story: Never leave the full rss feeds open however pressing the reason.
