Actually the repair/optimise is also a (small) risk as it could in a worse case scenario even fail, leaving your table corrupted.

Threads: 33,958, Posts: 220,359, Members: 18,963, db size: 250Mb, ave online at a time: 400. I optimise about once or twice a month.

Be sure to close the forum and backup the db before you do so.

Ugh, flashbacks. My Mysql process died in the middle of that once, with a 2Million+ post database.

Man, I drank some beers that weekend. :(

you switch hosts pretty quick :D ..... and logically if the load numbers are higher, then thats obviously not a good sign

kartik are you on a dedicated server ? cause there's something very wrong with that. Can you provide a link to your site so I can judge the possible cause of this ridiculous load?
