About two years ago now I lost my job and my tower broke. No money to buy a new CPU and I had just bought an HP Laptop.

To be honest, I eventually sold every piece of hardware and I live by the fullsize desktop replacement laptop.

It's so handy. And I just love it, and nothing every breaks or fails. I already upgraded the memory to a happy size, and this HP model has dual hard drive slots that I filled with two 250 gig drives.

So, when ever I go to a friends house or my parents and use thier desktop, it seems so 1999 to me.

As technology improves, processors get faster, I think more and more people are moving towards mobile anyways.

I had a laptop also that I sold last year, a SONY VAO. I bought it after I sold my old tower system. Even though I have a tower again now, I must agree laptops are great. I used to crash out on the couch with the laptop on the coffee table using it. Much more relaxing, rather than being sat at a computer table in a chair. I had a mouse that I bought also to use with it.

The only downside is games though. They just don't cut it like a custom tower when it comes to playing online game that require a very good system. But if your not into games, I'd say get a laptop instead of a PC.

Mu Current laptop (Core 2 Duo, more then enough memory and fast disk) outperforms my current desktop (P3/550MHz/198Mb RAM/WinXP-SP2) with no problems. :D

My new macbook should be arriving any minute...(I hope). Which will be a move from Desktop to Laptop, I am hoping the transition will be good!

Do yourself a favour before it comes, get yourself a USB optical mouse to use with it, miles better than using the mouse keypad. You'll love it then!

why limit yourself?...I have both and use them accordingly ;)

I can't build a laptop so I don't use them.

I've just never replaced the desktop becuase the laptop has worked for my needs. I don't play games, mostly just do website work, and graphic work, along with some video editing for my car club.

Currently AMD X2 with 2 gig memory and 260 gig hdd (100gig + 160gig) 17inch ultra bright view.

As MRGTB said, get a wireless mouse. My HP came with bluetooth built in so I have a bluetooth mouse, which is very useful. I only use the touch pad when I'm using my PC to work on cars.

I have a program for tuning LS! engines called LS1Edit that I use with my laptop.

Also, when I've been coding late, sometimes I like to carry the laptop from the desk to my recliner.

I suppose it comes down to your needs. However, I still dont understand you MAC boys. Thats like a never ending FAD.

Why use just one or the other, or even just one of each? :p

I have a MacBook, a Win95 Laptop (it did have ME on it when I got it, but needless to say I quickly nuked that and put 95 on it instead as it is a much better OS), a Win XP Pro Desktop (hooked to to my 32" LCD TV), and a 24" iMac.

Thats what I call basic, but I'll probably be adding a Linux box or two to it before the year is out, and maybe get a newer windows laptop to run alongside everything else, and then by the time I've got another Windows Desktop (probably with Vista), and a MacPro, both of which will be custom specs as normal, then I'll be heading towards perfection.

Tri-Boot, Linux, Vista, Media Center 2005

For me, I use my notebook computer for school, and that's about it. It has no graphics card, no games and weighs only 4.7 lbs. My desktop computer, on the other hand, has a powerful graphics card, tons of games and all my image editing software.

I think as notebooks become even cheaper and have better hardware, people will see the benefit of just having a desktop replacement notebook, but until that day comes, I'm still going to stick with desktop and notebook computers.
