With $65/month you also get a whole dedicated server.
eg. AMD Sempron 2500+ (Savvis Datacenter - Fort Worth, TX) 1GB DDR RAM 80GB Hard Drive Private VLAN 5 IP Addresses (usable) 1000GB Premium Bandwidth |
Bad move, you got a econonmy class processor, think celeron. Everything else is ok though.

That price's really a bargain for that server. If you're looking for a single core Intel P4 or AMD Athlon 64, you should raise ur budget at least to $100 :) (or a dual core to $150).
Semprons outperform Celerons, but a 2.8 GHz P4 will out perform a Sempron (say 2800+). Think of an old Sempron as an Athlon XP, as they are basically the same chip. New socket 754 semprons are athlon64 base with some cache turned off. Semprons make pretty good entry level servers, better than Celerons. However, if you need good performance go for a P4 2.8 or an Athlon 64. |
754 are anything but new, the socket was dead when it started, and what good is lots of horse power without the ability to do anything. Cache is possibly the most vital part of a processor esp when doing things for mysql etc.
a Semperon server is a waste. |
Might not be what you're looking for, but figured I'd throw my hat in to the circle.

Just take a look at the webpage of the manufactor of the processors.
AMD: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...30_118,00.html Athlon/Sempron are desktop processors, not designed to power a server. Server processor = Opteron Intel: http://www.intel.com/products/proces...uct_Processors Itanium 2, most Xeon's, and high-end Pentium-4/D are designed as server processor. |
