You would be surprised to see how many hosts suddenly don't have a working backup when you need it.

MarchoH64 , well it would be surprising yes, considering i do webhosting and i know its hardly 40 bucks for 200GB remote space to backup to or a one time 300$ for a hdd slave for backups, i mean i would understand if its saving money thing but it cant be but stupidity not to have backups

I've always urged my clients to do backups themselfs, I do preform backups but they are not daily (3 times a week, so there are 3 backups but they could be aged).

my webhost still has not replied, he must be having alot of problems now, i sent him 3 emails earlier about databases disapperring.

also mysql is working, i have another db, webmail, and it runs fine, but slow

Look for a host with realistic limits, theres no way in hell he can offer anyone 10gb of storage and 100gb of bandwidth for only 15 bucks a month. At most with a host that has a very large bandwidth allotment he could have 25 people on that machine, but that means he'd also need 250gb of storage, just for websites, not including backups or the OS files tiself. So they'd need a machine with 500GB worth of storage and 2500GB of bandwidth. But that would only net this guy 375 a month, a server like that proball costs at least 200-300 a month. So chances are hes greavely over selling. which means close to 50 or 100 or 200 sites on this server. Theres no machine that could possible hold 50 or 100 websites that could each use 10GB and 100GB. Do the math ;)

I have a resellers account with 10 gb of storage and 100 gb of bw for $20 per month... have been with them for a long time now. NO problems whatsoever.

I've just recently moved over to a VPS web hosting service, LiquidWeb, and their support so far has been top notch. Being that I'm nearly clueless when it comes to server-side operations the representatives did not degrade me in any way. I've called 5 times yesterday alone and they were very informative and patient.

The plan that I have currently can be found by clicking here. You won't get much info just by looking at the site but I can tell you from my end that I'm pleased. I'll post back later for an update on LiquidWeb services. :)

Im a bit psycho about my backups. I run database backups every six hours and file backups daily. (since they rarely change other than attachments, avatars, gallery images, etc.)

In any case I run a dedicated server from ev1servers.net. Cant say that I've had a problem to date with them and I've been with them for a year now.
