Hey if you'd like another demo check out www.dragonninja.co.uk - thanks Tigga. :)

Alien 02-24-2004 12:28 PM

Yes, you're certainly welcome to use us as an 'example site' as well on your first post...

I love this damn thing. :D

Tigga 02-24-2004 12:37 PM

Fleabag - Double check that you made the changes to functions.php, functions_calendar.php, and that you modified each template listed in the templates.txt file.

proxyMX - That would be some sort of a problem with your navbar template in that style then.

deathemperor1st - If a quote in your news is throwing everything off, you need to change the maximum number of news characters to a higher number to allow for the full quote. If the welcome panel isn't showing up then you need to enable it in your vB options, or make sure you didn't remove it from the template.

Fleabag - Looks good. :)

Alien - I think I just may have to take you up on your offer. ;)

thanks for your reply, but no, you were wrong. I set 3000 words for Maximum Characters, it had some changes but the quote in that news still showed up incorrectly, but the remaining did well (words that weren't in the quote). Something like.....half of the quote table appeared, the rest was in under its right table, mine is latest threads.
I guess you didn't think there was going to be quotes in news.

Tigga 02-24-2004 01:47 PM

Can you give me a link to your site?

Alien 02-24-2004 07:37 PM

Yeah I see what he's talking about.. Pretty minor overall...

You can see it on my front page under the news story "Stern Blasts Leno On-Air for an Hour".. You get the whole & quote thing if it cuts off at a particular place... :D

See the attachment, that is what it looks like.
I figured out something: I was watching the page loading, when the avatar didn't finish loading, the quote is ok but when the avatar appeared the quote broke out.
Hope the image will give out solutions.

There are number of errors that I encounter, mostly it has to do with undefined functions, I don;t know how to use it, so I am not going to install it. I was wondering however, if you could just tell me how to get news from a specific forum to show up.

let me give u a quick explanation with the attached image.
there're several ways to know the forum id: hover on its name, via ACP, right click and see the property...
the pic is hovering, the last number is the forum id, in the picture it's 2, then in vbadvanced opitions you just have to fill out that number to show its threads in the home page. Very very easy, isn't it ?
undefined fuctions....I guess you didn't care to save the vbadvanced options yet, you need to read the installation guide carefully.

dbode 02-26-2004 08:19 AM

Hi all together,

has anyone installed this with VERY large boards ? We do not only have 300 users online at the same moment but also around 20.000 unique visitors on our front page per day.

I think that at the moment, we have some server lags from time to time with Teck´s solution vBHome Lite, but if we upgrade to VB3.0, I´d like to try something else.

Dennis

Tigga 02-26-2004 11:55 AM

Death - Have you modified your bbcode_quote template at all? Can you please post here or PM me with a link to your site so I can take a look at the code and etc?

GuruXL - What version of vBulletin are you running? Have you made any modifications to your adv_index.php file? I don't see how it's complaining about the function on that line when that function isn't used until farther down the script.

dbode - Yes, this has been tested on large boards, and boards with a high number of concurent users - http://www.prisontalk.com might be a good example. There are two options that can sometimes be a little server intensive on larger sites (The stats option, and "Show New Posts"), so if you do experience any load problems be sure to turn those off. Other than those two options though, everything should perform great. :)

Sorry but I cannot give you that link.
If you want the code of my home page, I can give you.
That's all
BTW, is welcome box a welcome panel ? or I have to add on myself a welcome panel like an addon hack ?
how can I edit the custom Blocks ? or even create myself one ?

I have it set with the Main Table Width being 100% maybe this will fix you issue?
Style manager--->all style options---->under Sizes and Dimensions change Main Table Width (pixels or percentage) to 100%

NexVision 03-01-2004 10:50 AM

now dont hold me to this but i edited this line and it worked for me in your index templates under index edit this

<table align="center" class="page" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"width="100%">
<tr align="$stylevar[left]" valign="top">
<td width="170">

change the width to wutever you have your forum set to

DarkSavior 03-01-2004 11:14 AM

fasteddie 03-02-2004 12:50 AM

I just did a test with what is stated in the instructions

http://www.yorkietalk.com/index.php?page=links
I also tried
http://www.yorkietalk.com/adv_index.php?page=links

and I don't get the center block with my info (which I put in index_links and uploaded to my server)

Any clue on what is wrong? Thanks for your help! I love my front page now!

NexVision 03-02-2004 01:08 AM

What do you mean by edit the index template? My regular index works fine, I just fail when I try to add additional pages powered by vbadv

http://www.yorkietalk.com (front page works fine)

:)

yes, Zachery, I did do the index_links like I posted above. I just don't understand why nothing is coming up. I didn't do any other mods to adv_index that I can recall...

Assault 03-02-2004 02:04 AM

1st off... vba is something i've been lookin foward to 4 a long time.. good work man

2nd, tigga - i noticed you have a block on your vba with recent posts from a specific forum, i was wondering if you can help me out with doing that.. and i was also wondering if you can have more then 1 of those blocks... thanx...

MaDCaT75 03-02-2004 07:24 AM

Stupid question:

Where do I change the image folder for the main page? (buttons)

ChrisMJ 03-02-2004 07:41 AM

ok people i need your help. i have vbadvanced set up and its been runnin smoothly -but recently it will not want to load - http://www.pcgamesonline.com/swg/ is the forums and then http://www.pcgamesonline.com/swg/adv_index.php is the homepage.

can anyone help with this?

Also anyone up for helping me getting a skin made.

Tigga 03-02-2004 01:45 PM

fasteddie - Did you create a new template called index_links, or a new file (as you suggested above)? You should create a new template that contains the information you would like to display on that page.

Assault - I'm not sure what you mean... The vBa Homepage I'm running on both of my sites only has the latest threads sections...

MaDCaT75 - Those are in your main styles section. You just need to change the image paths and be sure they point to the full URL to the folders.

ChrisMJ - Did you receintly upgrade to a newer version of vBulletin? If so, upload the advindex_install.php file to your admincp directory, go to it in your browser, and then select the option to install only the templates.

Thanks for the help Tigga. I did figure out I needed to create a template instead of a file. :)

However, can you tell me how to get the blue header box and the text box for my text on this page?
