I haven't made any changes to my site on 4.2.1 but this mod seems to have stopped working. It no longer tweets?

I've applied the changes to the Oauth file as recommended in this thread.

The MOD isn't posting to Twitter.

The Error I get refers to lines in the OAuth File, Line 150 and Line 15

This was the last auto tweet MOD that worked, so it's a big disappointment that it has stopped working for 4.2.1.

I badly need MODs that will auto tweet, and post to Facebook page, and I'm confident I'm not the only one.

Pay attention. Read the last page or two.

Sounds like what I was getting when I downloaded the new oauth files instead of copying and pasting. Verify the files are actually PHP files and not HTML (first line: "<?php").

I did copy and paste, and the files begin how you say.

I can't see that it is working, just set up two posts and nothing is being tweeted

Mosh 06-30-2013 12:26 AM

As this is my final day as a coder with the vBulletin community (today is the last time I will be on the forum.... and I am leaving the vBulletin community entirely due to medical reasons and have realised there is more to life than this), I thought I would take the time to update my most popular hack for vBulletin 4.

Update: v4.1.0
-- Updated: Installation/Upgrade/Removal Instructions file
-- Updated: OAuth.php & twitteroauth.php files to use the new Twitter API 1.1 (old API 1.0 no longer works)
-- Removed: all references to "account/rate_limit_status", as this has been removed from the Twitter API 1.1
-- Removed: Two plugins to aid in diagnosing problems with this hack (as I no longer support this hack, and have now left the vBulletin community)

Remember, it is now up to you the members to support each other.

Videx 06-30-2013 01:19 AM

Thanks tons for everything Mosh, and especially in the end marking this as Reusable Code.

Sorry to hear this is your last time on the forum because I neglected to ask you about the spiders list - I mean, I wonder if anyone is planning to take that over? It's been very helpful the last few years. And I don't even think it's a 'mod' per se - just a very useful file.

Spangle 06-30-2013 08:17 AM

Thanks for a great MOD Mosh, and thanks again for not deserting it before updating and getting it to work once more.

I hope that your medical problems are not too serious and that you return to full health in the not too distant future.
You are right, there is more to life than sitting in front of a keyboard all day, enjoy it.

studify 06-30-2013 11:56 AM

Great work, and thank you for updating.

All the best for your health and future!

CoZmicShReddeR 06-30-2013 06:49 PM

Great job on the update thanks! Thought I had this installed guess last time I updated my website I forgot to re-add it! Thanks again and good luck to you!

HCHQ 07-01-2013 07:42 AM

Thanks for the update, much appreciated. My problem is the link isn't working. When I click the link it uses my URL twice:

That sounds familiar, I suspect I may have even had the problem myself. But I can't remember it now and all attempts to "search this thread" are coming up blank right now. If you find the solution earlier in the thread, repeat it please.

Not you but someone else posted a fix here https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....&postcount=553

OMG Yet another Bit.ly problem. I really don't see the fascination with bit.ly and use is.gd myself. Much less hassle.

Simon Lloyd 07-01-2013 05:34 PM

Im still using tinyurl with no issues!

Delfi_r 07-01-2013 05:53 PM

Thanks for the needed update, and good luck with all your life projects. Thanks a lot for bringing this one.

HCHQ 07-02-2013 06:56 AM

Tried tinyurl and I still have the same problem :( Someone please help!

So did you check the solution you were just given above? Now that you've made me read it more carefully I see it may have nothing to do with bit.ly.

If you have, then I wonder if it's working with no shortening? With is.gd?

HCHQ 07-02-2013 12:28 PM

Ah, didn't really understand it at first but I removed the forum component URL and it's working now. Thanks for your help :)

Liff 07-02-2013 12:43 PM

Thanks very much for a great a great mod and I would love to be able to leave it on now that I've got it to work.

Sadly, we have a large Twitter following and sadly some untrustworthy (And drunk!) members who would abuse the facility.

I may have missed this over the 50 pages so far, but is it possible to limit this to usergroups or to only tweet threads with a specific thread prefix (as I think you can limit those to usergroups?)

Or, to simplify.. Is there any way to choose which threads you'd like to tweet once they are open?

Sorry for the questions and thanks in advance to anyone kind enough to reply.

As I recall there isn't a lot of choices with the mod itself; you really have to rely on usergroups. But there hasn't been a lot of discussion here lately so something better may be buried from years ago.

Please report back and let us know what you can find, or install it and try it and see what you can do.

We consider abuse a rule breaker and would quickly penalize the perpetrator. Maybe kick them to a subgroup like Banned Users for a while.

Simon Lloyd 07-02-2013 05:00 PM

Later on when work has settled down i'll look at adding usergroup selection to this and post it here.

Thanks for the advice, Videx.

We run as libertarian a forum as we can and you'd pretty much need to kill someone to get banned :D

This Mod isn't a million miles away from what I want, except it posts to an individuals Twitter account rather than the forums.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=242425

I'm not even as skilled a coder to claim to be a novice and I appreciate it's too much to ask someone to carry out this level of mod for me, but I'll plod along and try some stuff to see if I can fluke success and if anyone else is interested and has the skills to complete it and then share then all the better :)

What great timing - Thanks very much Simon and I'll look forward to your work settling down and if you get a chance to add that then it would be great :)

Simon Lloyd 07-02-2013 05:20 PM

Ok, i've knocked something up, those of you wishing to beta test the new xml with usergroup selection then send me a pm - i haven't had time to test because im at work so you'll be my guinea pig, if all is well then i'll post it here and contact Mosh and see if he'll upload it to the main post.

In this version i've made it so that selected usergroups CANNOT use the twitter app at all!

Simon Lloyd 07-03-2013 05:06 PM

Thanks to Liff who has just offered to beta test the usergroup amedment, anyone else want to test just pm me.

The way I work it is to use the forum selection in the settings, I have hidden forums that only Admin and Mods use, these are the only one that are tweeted.

Hope this helps

I think you may have misspoke? What would be the point of publicly tweeting your hidden forums?

Of course I have our admin forums disabled from tweeting. But this is what we already said - using usergroups to limit tweets by limiting access to certain forums. Not quite the same thing as being able to directly assign usergroups to tweet (or not).

Black Tiger 07-04-2013 10:44 PM

Ik hope somebody can help me. I have disabled hash tags, but do use bit.ly. I already had an app running from another tweet post thing and used those codes and keys, which should be fine.

Installed the mod as should be, but when I start a new thread, this error appears:
Quote:

{"errorCode": 0, "errorMessage": "", "results": {"http://www.myforums.org/board/showthread.php?t=14483": {"userHash": "1xxxx", "shortKeywordUrl": "", "hash": "1baPagj", "shortCNAMEUrl": "http://bit.ly/1xxxx", "shortUrl": "http://bit.ly/1xxxx"}}, "statusCode": "OK"}
I cloaked my forum url and the bit.ly url a bit.
I'm running 3.8.7.

What am I doing wrong, how can I fix this?

Black Tiger 07-04-2013 10:59 PM

Seems the problem lies within the bit.ly support.
When I disable that and set it to "is.gd" then it works, but it's only showing the thread title of a new thread.
No text at all.

Is there a way to fix both problems?

The first is an easy solution - just don't use bit.ly. The second is by design I think. Just a title and a link. Might be a good feature request for the guy working on the newer version with the usergroup permissions.

Sounds a bit complicated though. You would have to ignore quotes and links and attachments. Then you would have to count the total length including the title and the link (shortened or not) and truncate at the previous word(s). If truncated, add <read more> at the end.

I doubt I would want to enable it, but who knows it might be worth a try.

Black Tiger 07-05-2013 12:48 AM

The first solution is no fix but a workaround.:)
But I don't mind, I don't need bit.ly if other things do the same job as well.

Well I hope soo, first I had this mod installed:
htt://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=216346

Unfortunately it's not working anymore. I don't know if he used rss feeds or something to post on twitter, but text was going in there.
You can see at http://www.twitter.com/Satellitefun if you look at tweets from June 9th and older.
Unfortunately then Twitter changed the api and almost nothing worked anymore.

It was just the first 2 lines from a messages, and then the short url to the complete thread.
I'm no coder but if that mod could do that, it couldn't be that hard could it?

That's a bad translation, but I think your question has been answered in the first post under question #14.

kingMOB 07-15-2013 01:47 PM

There's an incompatibility issue between this mod and the Instant New Thread Notification. If both are active, after submitting a thread that will be tweeted, it'll be created, tweeted and instantly notified, but it'll simply hang in the thread creation screen.

Since there's no more support to the other mod, there's anything that could be done to solve this?

There's no support here either. But I think they're both working for me (vb 4.2.1). I just checked and I got a Moderator forum notice yesterday (but that wouldn't be tweeted), and I see a general forum notice from 7/4 which shows as being tweeted. And no complaints yet about threads hanging.

You could try changing the execution order in the plugins, that should help with any conflicts.

I have tried before, changing the execution order of the WS vBulletin Tweet Poster plugin from the default 1 to 5, and the Instant New Thread Notification from 5 to 1, with no success.

I really like this mod, and it has worked great for me....until I upgraded to 4.2.1 Now it is not working at all. I did upgrade it and all, but it is still not working. I have no clue what to do. :(

And yes, I am paying attention. I am just not sure how to do what is said to do here....

You shouldn't really have to do much since the author updated the files on 6/29/13. Maybe you and Kingmob are having the same issue - do you see hanging threads like he does?

Regardless, I might suspect other mods. You guys should compare notes. Any big ones installed like vbadvanced, vbarcade, etc.?

Well, yes, I do have the Arcade, but it never caused a problem before. It all worked perfectly....until I did the upgrade to 4.2.1 (from 4.1.2).

I had to redo the Arcade, games and all...Twitter is the last thing not working I think.
