mod rewrite doesn't handle db lookups, so it would not know the name of the thread by the url itself.

something would have to be created in php itself. it would need to read the url and make a query if the pattern matched showthread.php.

I haven't read through this entire thread so I appologize if this has been mentioned, but I noticed that the 'whos online' area will not display correctly if a user is viewing a re-written thread.

It just shows 'viewing thread' without the link below it. You can tell they are viewing a re-written url by hovering over the question mark.

I've got a idea as alittle workaround for the WOL-Problem:

Couldn't you take the inforamtion, displayed in on the questionmark and parse it to the Line below "viewing Thread: " ?

You can see it by the URL which Thread it is and its mor comfortable then waiting for the alt-tag on each single user..

Ditto. This hack breaks any user's preference as to how many posts they want per page, and does all at 10 posts per page :(

Hello Dean

If I install this mod but later decide to uninstall it, is there anyway to modify the htaccess so that any mod-rewritten pages indexed by google still find their way to the correct thread?

Bhuwan 02-23-2006 06:22 PM

Any known problems with this hack b4 i install?

The latest version does no such thing, I use 40 posts per page based on my preferences - the most recent beta was/is available on the teckreviews site mentioned in earlier posts.

Hi all !
First of all, sorry for my bed english, I'm form Italy :o
I have a little problem after the installation of this mod: if in one forum I have a discussion of (as in my forum) 22 pages, if I click on "go to last page" I'm redirected to the 2nd page and not to the 22nd !
Checking the link I found http://www.xxxxxxx.com/forum/t27-p2-problemi.html
I suppose that t27 means thread nr. 27
and p2 means page 2 but this is not correct as I have 22 pages and not 2 !
How can I solve this problem ?
Thanks for your help.

Sara

Get the newest beta - available @ teckreviews.com...

...err... Site appears to be down...

Then again, support and development seems to be dwindling, you may be better served going to a different product - I'm pondering the move myself as it appears things are going to the wayside with this particular release and there are still minor problems with the newest beta.

Alfa1 03-20-2006 09:08 PM

Dean, do you have any news on when to expect your total SEO solution?

Danecookie 03-25-2006 01:17 PM

Hi,

many who register at my forums ecounter the problem that the URL changes to http://www.slipen.com/forum//f60-general-talk.html .. you can see that there are 2 > // , slashes here, and they get a 404 error, but after sometime the url changes back to normal i.e http://www.slipen.com/forum/f8-anime.html ..

this happene with all the links of the forums.

Please suggest a solution

Danecookie 03-27-2006 07:49 AM

where are you man ?!!!!!!!!!!

Gastongr 04-15-2006 09:27 PM

i just read all the 47 thread pages!
This is a great hack but still needs some work. Give Dean some time.
To those who want a number of posts per page different than 10 and don't want to update (or can't update) to the latest beta version, you can replace

pp=10

in the .htaccess file for anything you want

changing pp=20 will solve that

BeaLzeBuB 04-28-2006 12:43 AM

how i uninstall this ?

i delete .htaccess file but nothing happened

edit : done

VBUsers 05-07-2006 06:19 PM

works great . the only Q i have is i had a prior .htaccess file there. do i just overwrite it and leave it alone?

beezo 05-08-2006 09:52 PM

does Google penalize you if you have the regular URL like url/showthread.php?t=3333 and the mod rewrite URL url/t3333-this-subject-in-rewrite.html that points to the same page. Is this duplicate content?

The reason I am asking is my forum is not indexed on 2 of my sites and is indexed OK on another one. I was wondering if this mod would hurt indexing when google spiders through the non-rewrite urls.

geek1234 05-12-2006 10:50 PM

This works like a dream, but I'm curious if all you guys knew how to tweak the .htaccess file. I actually took the guts of the .htaccess from a post on the front page of this thread. From the looks of this thread, it seems this script actually writes the .htaccess file for you and all you do is copy and upload.

Does this script write the .htaccess reg exp code for you? Or is everyone but me a regular expression expert?

geek1234 05-12-2006 11:41 PM

<added> and I still don't quite understand why the "new post" page can't be done...I can understnad why the "last post" can't be done, but you'd think the "new post" page could at least be done as the urls there are: showthread.php?t=####

Or is there a new upload and I haven't figured out how to get it?

Yes duplicate content will get you some issues with Google. BUT there is a solution. Create or edit your robots.txt file to include your Forum's PHP Files.

This way only your SEO'ed content will be spidered.
