you should *always* make a backup of the appropriate files before doing any changes...

It works for everyone else. You didn't install it properly, there's no other explanation.

Ninth Dimension 08-22-2002 03:38 PM

i'd just like to say that from the look of it, out of the 46 pages this thread has generated, only about 5-10 of them are hack related, the rest is just bumph and un-related problems.

don't you just love un-moderated forums??? :)

BigJohnson 08-22-2002 05:03 PM

Any news on the store version of this awesome hack.

John 08-22-2002 05:05 PM

I'm going to be developing a store version of the arcade hack - but I'll probably leave the tetris hack as it is.

crossova 08-22-2002 05:54 PM

well i left it alone till i get home where i can properly FTP it to the server. but for now i just re-edited the forum home page: you can view it @: www.crossova.com/talk

Schorsch 08-22-2002 06:00 PM

one of my user (using Linux and Opera v6.02) always gets the no permission error after playing, no matter in which level he is or what score he has.

what can I do?

Schorsch :smoke:

John 08-22-2002 06:19 PM

Nothing - the passing of variables to and from Flash never works properly in Opera, let alone Linux!

John 08-22-2002 07:21 PM

Pruning :)

What else do I need to include? Anyone?

Just some questions about security:

I rewrote most of the tetris.php file, but without using the security check and whatnot. Right now I have my code just checking the referrer, so (in theory) the only way that somebody could cheat is if they spoofed the referrer, like by doing a manual HTTP request from a web server through telnet or something.

Are there other known ways of cheating that need to be addressed?

I have the permission code set up so that an admin can just choose which groups they want to have access to the games via the admin panel.

The only good addition I could think of is a daily or weekly leaderboard that pulls info from the last x hours. That'd be cool ;)

Not that I'm aware of

Is anybody aware of any other Flash games out there that return a high score?

And on that note, is the .FLA file for the most recent version of vbTetris available? I no longer see it in the archive in the first post in this thread.

Thanks.

No, the games have to be changed to work with this hack.

The Fla file is in the first zip.

futureal 08-22-2002 09:22 PM

Ah, I missed the .fla file the first time around. Thanks.

Here's hoping that somebody else out there is developing some more games for this to work with! The users love the whole idea of gaming, of course, but without the high score mechanism it's pretty pointless.

I would try my hand at making a game or two, except I have never done anything at all with Flash :)

You just need to include the source on these forums. :banana:

I think that comes AFTER he get's it working 100% with all the features he wants :)

NexDog 08-23-2002 12:30 AM

John, it is looking awesome! So there is a control panel seting that sets up an "archive" so that after the week is out, the high score registers with the member's name and the score board resets?

And can we set it to every 3 days or something?
And can every game, have it's own "crown"? That would be cool. ;)

Pruning is cool, and having it only record the users highest score so one guy can't take over the whole leaderboard. But if a member betters their score, it would be better to just have it edit the member's current high score as the guy can still take over the board.

To do that, you just have to select both record and display highest scores only. :)

vnj john , how much of a donation to get this on my forums ? ( once you're done with it )

John 08-23-2002 01:52 AM

Nice job!!! I would love this hack, however I'm stuck on the loading screen. It starts to load..but just sits there. I see some have had this problem as well. Has there been a fix for this?

My version of vb is 2.2.6

The URL is http://nba2k3.net/forum/tetris.php

Thanks! :)

You must be running the new version of the tetris.swf file, with a 1000 lines at level 10. That was my gripe in a previous post after John update. I know he is trying to please as many people as possible, bless his soul, but at level 10 you get nearly 1000 points per quick drop and line. You'll eventually see score much higher then that especially since it doesn't speed up.

Maybe one day some1 will be bored enough to make a 1000 lines, that in itself will be 1mil + quick drops. Before my upgrade one of the the players got close to 200k and was about 30k ahead of the 2nd score.

NexDog 08-23-2002 03:53 AM

I think John has replaced that 1000 points a level fla with the old one. :)

That was a real score of over 1,000,000 in vbTetris...

futureal 08-23-2002 05:48 AM

And here's something that could/should be included in the hack.

In online.php, find:

PHP Code:

    case 'spider':

$userinfo[where] = "Search Engine Spider";
      break;

and right above it, add:

PHP Code:

    case 'tetris':

$userinfo[where] = "Playing <a href='tetris.php?action=play&s=$session[sessionhash]'>Tetris!</a>";
      break;

then find:

PHP Code:

  case '/robots.txt':

$userinfo[activity] = 'spider';
    break;

and right above it, add:

PHP Code:

  case 'tetris.php':

$userinfo[activity] = 'tetris';
    break;

Now, when you view the "Who's Online" page, you'll get a nice display of who is playing Tetris.

Here's a screenshot:

NexDog 08-23-2002 06:48 AM

Oh very cool, doing that immediately. :)

Martin64 08-23-2002 10:33 AM

Someone who holds the current 2nd place at my boards with 480k wrote this as his comment:

"Show off..it would be more challenging if there was a level 11"

So does this mean that there is only 10 levels still?

Yes, no-one knows how to add more levels.
