Hi I have read the thread but Im still stuck! I have created a sub forum which I would like to have its own shoutbox - I understand I need to specify a script in the instances - but not sure what this script is or anything? bear in mind im no coding expert just a newbie!

Open the XML file and check that there's nothing extra in the header before <?xml

You need to create a new instance, set it to manual deployment, script forumdisplay, template FORUMDISPLAY, then edit forumdisplay with
Where X is your forumid.

I believe that should work.

great shoutbox had it now for a couple of months. got an error today not sure why. it was working ok this morning, logged back in just now and the shoutbox says loading... and then i get a 'forbidden' at the top of the shoutbox. this is happening to all my members.

re-installed and getting same error

problem sorted, something to do with ajax (don't ask me what i got someone who knows what they are talking about to do it!!!)

great Product, works for me. is there any way of adding the Shout Box in one of my Forum sidebar blocks instead of on top of the forum? can I place it on the bottom of the forum right before the WGO?

I used to use infern vbshout with vb3.8 but yesterday upped everything to vb4, and could not get that to work, after messing about I installed this vbshout - and even though its not enabled to work on my vbadvanced homepage, the old inferno vbshout has started working again ? is as if ones feeding of the other somehow?

Im confused.

oh - vbshout on a vbadvanced homepage seems to kill the online users module.

It will not work in the sidebar because the amount of editor controls are too large for it to be used in the sidebar.

You can move it anywhere you want, if the automatic deployment doesn't suit your needs, by editing the instance and following the instructions on the screen :)


They are completely unrelated, though I don't discount there may be some conflict. Did you remember to import the proper XML file for vB4?

That's a bug in vBAdvanced they have thus far refused to fix, there's sadly nothing I can do about this :(

I've got a problem with the timestamp. I wanna use a detailed date/time format in the forums, but a simple {vb:var time H:i:s} stamp in the vbshout... but it won't work with this timestamp. Any ideas?

Am back running vbshout.
Tried a number of the others. Some did some things better, others worse.
All in all - vbshout seems to work better for us.

2 issues with 5.3.1 though...
1. When I add to the Homepage for vbadvanced there seems to be a javascript bug between vbshout and the online users module. I've some free time coming up, so will see if I can narrow it down.

2. When a user creates a chatroom, invites aren't working. Have tried /chatinvite and /invite to no avail. However if I (as admin) get invited it works. Clearly a permission setting, but I can't figure out which one.. Any ideas?

Looked for a changelog between 5.3.1 and 5.3.2 but can't find one.. Maybe (fingers crossed) these are fixed?
Will be updating over coming days (along with vB itself) so will see.

The Lite version does not support stand-alone shoutbox.

The method of timestamps is hard-coded, that cannot be changed at this point in time :(

This is a bug in vBAdvanced that they've thus far been unwilling to fix.

.2 did contain some bugfixes regarding chat rooms, maybe it got solved there :)

Swap deployment to manual, follow instructions on screen except use this:
Replacing 1 with your forum id.

got a small problem it seems that even tough that the rights are setup correct the administrators on my forum cant edit/delete shouts from users.
this is including myself we can only do editsticky but we cant select edit shout or message
This is highly annoying if you have a spammer on your forum.

Edit the template you wish to show this in and paste that code, try editing forumhome and adding it in somewhere to see how it works ;).

Are you 100% sure you edited the Instance Permissions properly? Nobody else has reported this problem.
Also, are you double-clicking to edit the shout?

We've had no reports of incompatibilities with vB 4.1, we expect to fully move over to vB 4.1 when enough of our customer base has also moved :)

If the box is from the works with the insertion of images, the box is on it does not work ...
