Has anyone encountered the following problem? I upgraded to 3.8.0 and when trying to approve pending members I received the following error: Fatal error: Call to a member function set_existing() on a non-object in /home/main/public_html/forums/group.php on line 3999

Varsh 01-11-2009 05:34 PM

There have been some hooks that have been renamed that's why, this plugin will not work with 3.8 so please keep this in mind, it most likely will be updated soon as this is a very popular mod.

Second.

The biggest issue with vB's Social Groups is it's lack of visibility. By creating forums to be displayed on forumhome, this mod greatly increased my members interest in using Social Groups.

Mum 01-12-2009 04:24 PM

Can't wait for the 3.8 version.

Bluefin221 01-22-2009 09:13 PM

Is there any movement on this? My members have been getting restless as they love the feature.

Phalynx 01-23-2009 06:42 AM

Currently in preparation, as my time is very limited for this. Also, I'm away from tomorrow until thursday, so no development will be done in this time.

Just tell them that they'll have to wait, patience my pedigree chum, we're all wanting and waiting for this, and I'm sure this'll be much better than before. :)

Locutus2999 01-23-2009 01:49 PM

I also can't wait for this to work with 3.8!

Thanks for the work you do.

Oh, you are going to upgrade this? Oh, that is so cool!! My members will be overjoyed!!!!

WreckRman2 01-27-2009 07:21 PM

I upgraded this with 3.8 and I wish I never did... I really miss having an actual forum for each group.

If with upgrading you mean running the "SocialForums to vB 3.8 Group Discussions Converter" script, that's not actually an upgrade of this mod. It just makes this mod obsolete.

As far as I now the real upgrade of SocialForums is still under construction.

WreckRman2 02-03-2009 03:40 PM

Yes, I did that and now I dislike it. :)

GHC Webmaster 02-03-2009 04:41 PM

You could restore a backup from before the update (if you have one), but that would obviously cost you everything that's been posted/done since then.

nanaimobar 02-12-2009 10:02 PM

Phalynx did a great job with this mod and coding takes time, for free or otherwise and that's why I donated a small amount to - hopefully - soon update mod for 3.8+. If you can afford a small donation then why not donate and show your appreciation too.

Phalynx 02-18-2009 10:07 AM

Thanks for nanaimobar and another donator for your support!

I'm still developing v2.0, hoping it will be finished at the beginning of the next week.

BoyG 02-20-2009 12:17 AM

donated a small amount too, hope we get the 3.8 version soon. good luck!!

BoyG 02-20-2009 12:17 AM

Donated a small amount too. Hope to get the 3.8 version soon. Good luck and thanks in advance!

blogthea 02-22-2009 03:59 PM

i am really looking forward for the 3.8 version! i would like to donate but i cant find the paypal link

buro9 02-23-2009 05:04 AM

This is a great mod, and when you have a 3.8 upgrade for it you'll have a donation from me.

Truly great work, this is what vbulletin should've done.

blogthea 02-23-2009 12:11 PM

and from me! you have done great work in SocialForums. Too bad vbulletin doesnt have an option for that

Phalynx 03-02-2009 09:15 PM

Good News: I finished the work on the first beta.

SocialForums 2.0 BETA has the following changes compared to 1.4.x:
- Works only with vBulletin 3.8
- New layout for threadlisting, similar to a real threadlist in a forum
- Possibility of a notice in Forums associated with a Social Group
- Minor changes and fixes

Install:
- Copy functions_socialforums.php to /includes/
- Import product XML

Awaiting your feedback.

Looks real good so far. Under threads though in the group, it shows one of them having a smiley and then below that is my forum home URL in the next forum thread where a smilie would be. If I remove the thread smiley it just moves up one. Not sure what causes this but it seems to widen my template out of order a little. Here's a link to the group.

WreckRman2 03-02-2009 10:08 PM

Yep mine too...

How do you create or link a group to a forum?

f I want to put this on a board that has never had Social Forums on it before, do I use these instructions? Or do I install the main one in the beginning of the thread, and then do:

Install:
- Copy functions_socialforums.php to /includes/
- Import product XML

There is a link at the bottom, near "Delete Group" and "Edit Group". It appears only if the group owner has the permission to create a forum and enough members.

Yes, as this is only an update to the existing. I will release a complete install as soon as the beta is over.

The situation in my forum:

Under vB 3.7 i had social forums 1.4 - after upgrade to vB 3.8 i deactivated the add-on and use the converter.

Is it right to use the new files now, re-activate the add-on an everything is fine ?
What about the converter and the group discussions made till now?

thx

In this case all new discussions are hidden. I'm evaluating the possibility to move group discussions to forum threads.

I have found a few errors that have come up which I will post below.

This first one is when you try to accept or deny more members than one to a group, so you have to at this point do them one at a time.

Code:

Fatal error: Call to a member function set_existing() on a non-object in /home/main/public_html/forums/group.php on line 3999
This second one has only occured since I upgraded social forums.

Database error in vBulletin 3.8.0:

Code:

Invalid SQL:

WHERE forumid=;

This error is *NOT* related to SocialForums. It will be fixed in vBulletin 3.8.2, see here:

Fixed in next version (which will be RC)

GHC Webmaster 03-03-2009 01:28 PM

Done a quick test on my test version of vB. Noticed one thing:

Transfering the ownership of a group to another user doesn't change the forum's moderator as well. Which means this has to be changed manually by an admin.

For the rest it looks very good indeed.

I do not have that link at all...

WreckRman2 03-03-2009 02:33 PM

If you visit "/forumdisplay.php?do=markread" it returns an SQL error:

Database error in vBulletin 3.8.0:

Bluefin221 03-03-2009 03:31 PM

Thanks for the prompt answers guys.

Phalynx 03-03-2009 05:31 PM

Ok, I got the converter running. In the next release there will be a converter to transfer group discussions and messages into forums.

I will try to implement this for the next version.

Tomorrow morning (European time).
