Are you guys just saying the rewrite part of it doesn't work with the tags system?

I am happy just using the forum meta tags and a couple other parts....

Thanks

MindstateNL 07-20-2008 09:42 PM

I'm curious too, I'd love to use Zoints on my board, if it's only the tag system then i'll install it anyway cause I turn that off

MindstateNL 07-25-2008 05:24 PM

Hi,

I'm asking for a little bit of help on the Zoints Mod, because I can't get it to work properly. I installed it, did everything the readme told me to do, but still it isn't as it has to be.

My links are now turning up like this:
http://www.lalala.com/forum//showthr...html?p=7#post7
and it has to turn up like:
www.lalala.com/forum/topictitle-5.html

Can somebody please help me out? Much appreciated,

Niels

Hi guys,

First of all, i installed your seo on my last forum and it was super! Unfortunatly this time i seem to be having a problem. When i installed zoints SEO and turned it on, i noticed all of my images were missing and that none on my urls worked.

After looking into it i found out it was missing the forum directory in each url and so it wasnt finding the images / going to the forum or thread, for example it would go to this url:

http://www.myforum.com/forumdisplay....stions-10.html

But the forum isnt in the root, its in the forums folder so it should be this:

http://www.myforum.com/forums/forumd...stions-10.html

If i add the forum directory to the url it works perfectly, but i can only do that manually. How can i tell zoints SEO that my forum isnt root its in the forums folder and that it needs to be adding /forums to each url it optimises. Also, when doing the mod rewrite, do i add the lines to the htaccess in my forums folder or the one in my websites root?

Many thanks for any help you can give!

James

I have the same problem but with the urls generated by Zoint SEO.
My forum is allocated in the directory foros
For example

http://www.myforum.com/foros/

But the urls generated by Zoint SEO link to http://www.myforum.com/ and didn?t work.
How to correct that please?

The problem was fixed :) but i have a new problem.
I add to homepage the section Latest Threads but in this section the links appear in the old format (http://myforum.com/foros/showthread.php?t=7)
How fix this?

Now if this could be combined, unified, with TfSEO for vBulletin 3.7.x, it would be a killer SEO product.

Any coders out there who want to get involved?

I'd do it if I knew anything about coding, but I don't. :(

Peace,

Ok, I (hey, I was just starting out) installed this with the rewrite option, not knowing any better... Fast forward a year and a half and I've got almost 9 million posts.... But in Google? 70,000 pages.... I'd really like to switch back to standard vbulletin URLs but my question is... how?

Obviously, my links are in the http://www.myforum.com/forum/thread-name-t127521.html format in Google... If I disable the rewriting, the links won't go where they are supposed to... Is there a way to "reverse rewrite"? So that, when it comes in, it's rewritten properly back into the vB default URL format?

NOPE. not unless some coder wants to put some time into enhancing this script.
People do not seem to understand that zoints does not support this script, and unless
they state otherwise, there will be not future updates. This is just another deathrow, deadbeat hack waiting to die out, so far, I see no future for this script...

I do know if anyone put the effort to make a real SEO script and charged less then
VBseo, then they would make a bit of money, thus far, I think VBSEO rocks as their
is no competition...it might cost, but at least they have support for a real script.

vBSEO is snake oil. It does some stuff, which can mostly be handled by free plugins. It is overpriced, and its questionable marketing would be regarded as spam if you got it via email. How many of you have gotten questionable offers for SEO enhancement, if you only pay a monthly fee? Well, paying nearly the cost of a full vBulletin license will not get you magic, but enrich the people who developed the program.

Yes, Zoints SEO is not being developed, but TfSEO is.

Peace,
Gene

dxlwebs 10-27-2008 01:17 PM

yeah it does look that way its a shame because i use zoints seo and it does work really well! all but perfect really but if vbseo was cheaper i would have thought about paying for it! i might play around with this and see what i can do ill contact soints and ask if i can play with it and maybe ill be able to make a newer version!

No, but you can use vBSEO Site Map Generator (free add-on here) which works just fine with Zoints up to the latest 3.7x version.

gabrielt 12-31-2008 09:37 PM

Hello,

This drove me nuts for months: Zoints SEO "kills" the tag cloud system search (tags.php) from vBulletin 3.7.x.

After spending hours researching this problem, I FINALLY FOUND THE SOLUTION. Here we go.

Two items need to be edited.

1. Open tags.php and add what is marked in red:

$show['disabled'] = ($movethread["$thread[threadid]"] OR $deletethread["$thread[threadid]"] OR $approvethread["$thread[threadid]"] OR $openthread["$thread[threadid]"]) ? false : true;
($hook = vBulletinHook::fetch_hook('threadbit_display')) ? eval($hook) : false;
eval('$threadbits .= "' . fetch_template('threadbit') . '";');

2. Open the plugin called "Zoints SEO" at the hook "threadbit_display" and add what is marked in red:

$thread['zointsurl'] = zseo_url_thread($thread, 1, $thread['highlight']);
$thread[zointsforumurl] = zseo_url_forum($thread);
$show['zointsurl'] = true;

After these two modifications the tag cloud system will work 100% with Zoints SEO.

Cheers,
Gabriel Torres.

Ah, I see, it fixes the links on the site but it doesn't set the url so that all incoming are changed so they appear without the index.php...

I'm working on it.

Phaedrus 01-18-2009 05:53 PM

In 3.8.0 there was an issue where members, on the last page of the thread, tried to click the "View First Unread" link and were taken to the forumhome instead.

I solved that issue by making a simple template edit:

In SHOWTHREAD Template:

find:
Code:

<a href="$firstunread"><img class="inlineimg" src="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/firstnew.gif" alt="$vbphrase[view_first_unread]" border="0" /></a>
                        <a href="$firstunread"><strong>$vbphrase[view_first_unread]</strong></a>

And replace with:
Code:

<a href="showthread.php?goto=newpost&amp;t=$thread[threadid]"><img class="inlineimg" src="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/firstnew.gif" alt="$vbphrase[view_first_unread]" border="0" /></a>
                        <a href="showthread.php?goto=newpost&amp;t=$thread[threadid]"><strong>$vbphrase[view_first_unread]</strong></a>

If anybody has a better solution, I'm all ears!

You should disable all the hacks before upgrading to 3.8.

Daniel Lindberg 01-28-2009 05:12 AM

Does anyone plan to actually release an updated version of this mod, or maybe publish a guide with all changes that must be made for it to work to 100% with 3.8?
