Wow, this is fantastic! My users love it! Thanks John!

I've a little problem though: The class attributes for the Control Panel panel on the left column of the Arcade settings are not getting filled up. The result is class="". The attached gif will illustrate the problem.

I've double checked (and triple checked) everything but couldn't find any mistake. What could be wrong? Maybe I'm getting old..

Just slightly.... I was only fooling around... I forgot to request a submit button for copter and I regret doing so, geez.

Xyphen 01-23-2004 03:23 AM

I found a problem... when you disable the arcade in the settings.. or disable a game.

"Is the Arcade Active? If not, only Administrators will be able to view the arcadeIs the Arcade Active? If not, only Administrators will be able to view the arcade"

If admin should be allowed to view the game/arcade still, then why do I get a permission error?

Didn't bother including any such feature, as I couldn't think of a legitimate reason for having it.

John, what would an example be? Like, to change the value of a score for Curveball

MaDCaT75 01-23-2004 05:36 AM

Doesnt anyone else know how to convert games for the arcade

Just a side note, the source file you gave *doesn't work*. It's a dud, half the code is missing.

InSaNeOnE 01-23-2004 09:53 AM

Absolutly Superb hack, Excellent install instructions, and the whole install on Vb3 RC2 went without a hitch.

Incredibly easy to install and use.

Just a couple of slight issues with 2 games.

I have noticed in my browser (Opera 7.50 P1 + Linux) 2 games dont forward too add high scores on occasions.

Curveball and Helicopter, I have to ask as the wife scored big on Helicopter and I got it in the neck when she couldnt enter her high score :D

am I the only person with his problem, is it a known issue or is it my browser.

Cheers

DuffMan 01-23-2004 11:27 AM

One of my members has said that after he finishes a game he just gets redirected to the main arcade.php and not to the scores table. He's using IE6. Any ideas?

Big Jim 01-23-2004 12:27 PM

Just got this this morning:

As I've said time and time again, please search the thread before you post these problems. This bug has been fixed, use the updated arcade.php.

Big Jim 01-23-2004 01:02 PM

Sorry John, just trying to stay on top of things, and this thread is just a tad large now. :)

This is such a kick ass hack! Good job. I am only having 1 slight problem. See screenshot, youll get it then

Nam 01-23-2004 01:51 PM

I'm wondering that when I clicked the "High Scores" link under the game, it shows 10 pages of "no comment", I know I can delete it, but it seems that the hack will hold as many as the database can hold, for the game such as helicopter, in which you crash frequently, it is pointless to record that kind of game.

Instead of listing pointless and unlimited scores, why just display top 10 scores or 100 scores, anything more than that will be ignored and will not be recorded. Unless I'm missing something here.

I agree. A great feature would be to limit the number of high scores, and make it setable in the admin area. I for example would probably like to limit the # of scores in the table to say 200, and if you'r not in the top 200 you just don't get listed.

This is basic HTML, try checking out w3's HTML school here.

John 01-23-2004 02:39 PM

Smirks and Nam, you can rest assured that most of the features people suggest here have already been thought over a long time before I even started coding this hack - but there comes a point where you have to release it, and leave the other features for future updates. :)

I dont think there is an error similar on this thread. Everything seems to work fine though. This error is verry confusing.

Completely understood. I'm not saying it's crucial, I'm just saying it'd be nice for a future release.... even if it's years away. :)

Yeah, I've seen this error before. Are you using the latest arcade.php?

Alien 01-23-2004 04:25 PM

That's odd, since I've been keeping an eye on every time you updated the file in the first post. ;)

Only alteration I've made was the one in the extras folder called mini-stats or whatever... Can that be the source of the bug coming back? I haven't installed the mini-stats again yet and NOW it's working fine. I'd be afraid to re-install it lol...

/me clicks install.

Great hack. Just make sure you have your default language set in IE, or your scores won't get recorded, as was mentioned previously.

Yeah, interesting problem there. I'll have to look into why that happens...

To what should you set your default langauge?

This is one of the best hacks I have seen and too easy to install :)

Dart1337 01-23-2004 05:41 PM

If you would like a more uniform looking postbit (in horizontal mode), feel free to use this "arcade_awards_bit"

Code:

<if condition="$award[icon]!=''"><a href="arcade.php?do=play&gameid=$award[gameid]"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_arcade]/trophy.gif" alt="$award[gametitle] Champion! High Score: $award[highscore]" align="absmiddle" border=0></a>
If you have a lot of games installed, this could reduce the amount of room you would have to use in your postbit, in the event you have all of the high scores. You can just hover over the trophy and it will tell you what the high score was for that particular game. If you don't like the trophy.gif icon, you can use the original image2.gifs instead, but I didn't like the additional load times it caused for my dialup users.

I like the idea, looks much better in the future if there are lots of games (already used) :D.

But instead of trophy, it would better to display the small icon represents the games, just IMO, like

PHP Code:

<if condition="$award[icon]!=''"><a href="arcade.php?do=play&gameid=$award[gameid]"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_arcade]/$award[icon]alt="$award[gametitle] Champion! High Score: $award[highscore]align="absmiddle" border=0></a

Yup. I just didn't like the little icons. ;)

snatty 01-23-2004 07:12 PM

I have a problem with my Arcade. I followed the instructions carefully and everything seems to work except for the high scores. After playing a game it doesn't forward me to enter my comments but rather keeps me at the game over screen. I thought it might of been a problem with me but I believe everyone else is having this problem. It doesn't record any high scores but under the Champion column it'll say :

<username>
with a score of 0

Thanks.
