If you currently use More Share Options 2.61 I suggest you go to Admin CP -> Products & Plugins -> Product Manager and "Disable" the mod from the Drop Down menu.

You should then install and setup the New Mod (3.0)

If you like the way 3.0 works then go back to the Product Manager and Uninstall the 2.61 mod.

cdoyle 06-14-2012 01:43 PM

OK, I got it working.
for some reason I had to totally uninstall the old version to make it work.

but, now that it's working I don't see the option on ForumHome to have the button display in the what's going on box. Is that still an option?

fwulfers 06-14-2012 02:21 PM

I also had the issue with the new version not working after disabling the old 2.6 version. The old one needs to be uninstalled first before you install the 3.0 version. Great mod, thanks for the update! :)

No, it is no longer an options because it will be on the top of the page now.

Thanks both of you for the feedback on uninstalling the old mod first. It's weird because I stitll have 2.61 installed but disabled on my sites. Nevertheless I will update the instructions. :)

Disco_Stu 06-14-2012 07:12 PM

I must be doing something wrong. I installed for 4.2 PL1 and it looks ok except that the only way it will display the FB like button is if I also use the built in function to display the same button int he thread. If I disable displaying the built in thread button then the mod FB button does not display either.

So now I have the same button displaying in your mod and also int he thread. What am I doing wrong?

BirdOPrey5 06-14-2012 08:37 PM

Get it working, so you have two Facebook Like Buttons.

Then in my mod there is a setting: Disable Built-In Facebook Like

Set it to "YES"

Now you should have only one Like button.

Disco_Stu 06-14-2012 09:02 PM

I get it working and the FB like is in both places. Then I disable the built in using your mod and they both disappear leaving only the other buttons. They're either both on or both off

I disabled it for now. I'll try it again later

And just to confirm-

You are running VB 4.2.0?

You have a Facebook Application ID and Secret setup in Facebook Options? Basically the top of the settings look like this:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachmen...1&d=1339726749

If you want to post or PM me a link to your forum I'd like to take a look see if I notice anything different.

Last question- do you have a custom style? If so can you try on the default style?

Disco_Stu 06-15-2012 02:06 AM

I have 4.2.pPL1 but I did not set up a facebook app ID . I didn't think I needed one for the recommend button. I will try to add the app id

And it does the same thing on the default style as it does for my custom one.

The recommend and share button in your mod work fine without an app ID but only if the built in like button is displayed. If the built in like button is disabled then the recommend and share button in your mod do not display.

I will play around with it some more as I don't really want to create an app on facebook right now but I do want to make use of the share and recommend functions

BirdOPrey5 06-15-2012 10:59 AM

The mod instructions clearly say you need an app id and the facebook platform enabled for this mod to work right.

Without the above the facebook javascript isn't put on every page, which is what is necessary since this mod puts the Like button on pages vBulletin never intended.

I suppose if you are adverse to putting in an appid you could make an edit to the more_share_tng template.

Find the line:

Code:

<vb:if condition="$msot['fbold']">
and change it to:

Code:

<vb:if condition="1">
That will force the FB JavaScript on every page, but it still looks for an appid... Not sure if it will work correctly without one. Worth a try though I suppose.

If it doesn't work be sure to Revert the template back to normal.

BirdOPrey5 06-15-2012 11:06 AM

Update- Yes the above edit will work if you don't want to enter an appid.

I will update the next version to do this automatically if no app id is present.

GamerPerfection 06-16-2012 02:58 PM

I have updated to 3.0 and it is working fine even though I haven't uninstalled 2.61.

Also i'm using VBSEO too and it seems fine. Thanks.

fwulfers 06-16-2012 03:38 PM

When tweeting a thread, the links don't match up when using vbSEO.

For example, http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?t=25820 in the tweet window should be http://saabworld.net/f142/diesel-cars-usa-25820/

Not a big deal though, clicking the non-VBSEOed link still gets you to the right page. But I am not sure what the search engine spiders lurking on Twitter think of that.

Thanks for the VBSEO Feedback guys. I appreciate it. :)

As for the search engine spiders on Twitter- not a big deal for 2 reasons

1) Twitter is shortening the links anyway

and

2) Once they reach your page there is a "canocial url" meta tag I'm sure so it will tell the search engine what the correct URL of the page should be.

GamerPerfection 06-17-2012 06:18 AM

What changes are in the update?

BirdOPrey5 06-17-2012 01:19 PM

Sorry, my browser froze-up halfway through updating the thread and I left it for a while and forgot about it. :o

Anyway Updated to 3.1

New option for those who wanted "centered" buttons instead of just left or right alignment.

New code to let the Facebook Like button(s) work regardless of whether the built in Facebook Platform is enabled and regardless of if a Facebook App ID is entered.

SocketTF 06-17-2012 08:59 PM

I'm trying to deploy the bar manually using the provided option and edit my desired templates, I don't like the BOP5 in ALL the pages so I've edited for example SHOWTREAD inserting the code {vb:raw more_share_tng} inside as you said. The BOP bar don't show at all.

Any ideas or what I'm missing?

BirdOPrey5 06-18-2012 12:53 PM

The mod instructions say clearly you can only put the template in the navbar, header, or footer template.

I did not include code to show it in SHOWTHREAD or any other template besides the 3 above.

HOWEVER, I did include the option to disable the bar on pages you don't want- the setting Disable on these Scripts (Pages) you can add the pages you don't want it to show on.

Lol, sorry, I missed that option. Thanks for the explanation :o

No problem... there are A LOT of options.

Here is the report from Facebook:

https://developers.facebook.com/tool...%2Fcontent.php

Code:

Using data from http://www.shopforum.gr/content.php because there was an error following the redirect path

Circular redirect path detected (see 'Redirect Path' section for details).

URL requested a HTTP redirect, but it could not be followed.

I'm sure what it means exactly, Facebook isn't able to read your page how they want- Are you doing anything special/weird with your htaccess maybe?

A google search found this- may be of use?

GamerPerfection 06-20-2012 07:38 PM

See where I currently have this mod: http://www.gamerperfection.com

Is it possible for me to move it to the line above, where it has the little navigation bit with the home button and forum, but have the Mod right aligned so it doesn't clash with the navigation?

StonePilot 06-20-2012 08:21 PM

So far so good. Took me a while to realize that the THIS_SCRIPT was just talking about the php pages on my server.

I can't get it to exclude content.php though, perhaps that's an alias and not the actual file name? not sure, otherwise it appears to be working fine.

I'm sure it is possible but would involve some serious editing of the navar template. Also may run into issues with long thread titles that would make the breadcrumb trail very long.

vbcms is the THIS_SCRIPT value for content.php

perfect mod. I love it..

hasidoo 06-23-2012 05:50 PM

Dear developer,
I'm having some compatibility issues with downloads II and 8wayrun media library mods.
The share buttons appear at the top of theses mod pages, but although someone clicks the like button, it is not getting the current page url (I mean it appears as if the person has liked the community). Can u kindly tell me a solution for this please..

Apart from that, this mod works fine and I simply love this

BirdOPrey5 06-24-2012 03:05 PM

Can I get a link to your community?

Surely. Check out this link.

637 likes here represent the like for the community, not for this page.

I'm having the same issue here too.

I have confirmed in your HTML source code the correct URL is being supplied to the Facebook Like button on all pages.

However Facebook itself reports a "Redirect Error" when access your site's pages:
https://developers.facebook.com/tool...rums%2Ffaq.php

If you scroll down that page near the bottom you will see it it being redirected to your forum homepage.

I don't know how or why that is happening, you may have something in your .htaccess file or something setup on your server that does this- it is not normal vBulletin behavior.

BirdOPrey5 06-24-2012 05:03 PM

I really don't know... I doubt Facebook has staff to answer these questions. Do you have any kind of custom htaccess file? I was hoping the link above would have reminded you about something you setup that may be interfering.

I can't really think of any reason Facebook's spider is getting a 301 redirect when regular users do not except for a custom setting in htaccess or the server.

You may see if your host has an answer but I doubt they will.

I have an htaccess file. At the top of that file, there are these lines.
ErrorDocument 403 /403.shtml
ErrorDocument 404 /404.shtml
ErrorDocument 500 /500.shtml
ErrorDocument 400 /400.shtml
ErrorDocument 401 /401.shtml

I'm sorry if I asked you something wrong. I've no idea what to do.:(

BirdOPrey5 06-25-2012 06:02 PM

You didn't ask anything wrong, I just have no idea what to do to fix it. If I ever figure it out I will post here.

charlesr 07-01-2012 03:20 PM

What are the admin options for this please? Can you specify only on CMS for example? (Sorry if earlier in thread).

BirdOPrey5 07-01-2012 04:06 PM

In the first post is a link to the full admin options:
http://www.qapla.com/mods/ss/msotng_admincp_free.jpg

Basically it is enabled by default on ALL pages. You can specify THIS_SCRIPT values to disable on specific pages.

If you ONLY wanted it on the CMS it would probably be easier to follow the instructions for the manual template edit and simply put the code inside a template conditional- such as:

Code:

<vb:if condition="THIS_SCRIPT=='vbcms'">
{vb:raw more_share_tng}
</vb:if>

So it only appears on the CMS and you don't have to enter 20 different THIS_SCRIPT values to literally disable them on every other page.
