They do not have a password in the database. Try signing up with facebook and then try logging in with username and same password. it doesn't work.

As normal, the email addresses that Facebook uses are proxy emails which when mail is sent to them forwards the email to the address that is on their Facebook account

With a few hacks it can be sorted. I have it so that on Edit Your Details page the "Edit Email and password" button shows even for Facebook users.

When they click this I have it so they can view their Facebook Proxy Email address and change their password. They can then copy the Facebook Proxy Email, logout and then go through the lost password procedure to get a new password emailed to them.

Once they have this new password they can login via either method and can then set a password they can remember. Works perfectly

Xanlamin 05-04-2009 06:00 PM

Are these users able to still create an album and how do they follow forum permissions? considering they are not registered users?

Not true. I've tried sending an email to these users and receive a bounce back in return.

Actually, that IS true. These emails won't just "get to the user", though, you have to comply with the standards set forth by facebook.

As far as sending mail directly to the proxy mail, it isn't going to work right. You can NOT mail these users directly, nor, frankly, should you mail users from your forum in a "mass mail" format!

I have boards that have emailed thousands of users with no issues at all, and if you allow them to log in to your site via there facebook accounts why should you not be able to send them emails?

It seems this mod is more of a hassle than it is worth, why would you want users on your board that you can not control, I would rather them make an actual account, and if they do not want to do that then they are not wanting to view my site anyways.

Keyser520 05-07-2009 07:07 PM

Ok...it looks like my users can login with either their OLD forum accounts or their facebook accounts... is it possible to merge those?

floggerss 05-08-2009 03:05 PM

How can i Add this option in the resiter form, where the user acept the legal agreement?

wolfstream 05-08-2009 03:14 PM

Can't be done
This doesn't "register" users for your forum in the standard way. You need to use something like this mod to force users to accept rules once registered

Jeffler 05-08-2009 07:25 PM

For some reason when I click publish now after a post it won't go through with the click...didn't used to do this before though :/

KevinGupta 05-08-2009 11:36 PM

I'm not sure what is going wrong for me here...

1) When I click on Connect with Facebook button, it doesnt give me any screen to login? Like shown in here: HERE

2) and when I try to post threads/replies it doesnt ask me if I wish to post it to facebook? It just posts it how it normally does in vB..

Can someone tell me what is wrong?

Thanks!

retrogt 05-12-2009 08:26 AM

when you create a thread on the forum and it posts it on your facebook wall is the link that says "view thread" suppose to take you to the thread or just the section where the thread is located? on mine it is taking you to the main section and not the thread itself. if this is not correct how can I fix it; or even if it is is there a way to get it to actually link to the thread?

thanks

Same problem. It'd be nice if the author of the mod would be around for support.

retrogt 05-14-2009 04:13 AM

any help?

hmmmm...this is weird. the original post of the thread doesnt link directly to the thread and instead to the main section the thread is located in; however if someone responds then it does link directly to the thread.

and it only notifies you on facebook if there is a reply if the person who replies is also on facebook and is connected...

is this how it is suppose to work?

gcxboxps 05-14-2009 08:50 AM

Nothing seems to be showing on my forum at all after installing it completely even the optional settings. There's no facebook login button or anything, it's as if I didn't touch my forum at all.

I checked the usergroups to see if I needed to enable it for certain usergroups including my own, and found nothing there, so I'm confused at what else I need to do as I followed it step by step, replaced the lines I needed to and etc.. just as the instructions requested.

Any help is appreciated on this guys, thanks! :)

petdoctorforum 05-15-2009 08:52 AM

im trying to do this
Quote:

Import the product XML file and enable it (if not enabled).

but its telling me its invalid?

Actually when i tried to unzip the fbconnect file in my root, in unzipped as empty, so i had to upload the whole package file by file by ftp.

But now im in my forum VB admin, and im on step 3 of the process- "Import the product XML file and enable it (if not enabled)."

when i try to import it, it says the file is invalid.
Actually i tried both the link from the server, and to upload it... neither work??
any suggestion.
Its my first plug in so im a novice....:)

I very much doubt it. I think it would be safe to say this mod is "Unsupported" :( - Last reply to this thread was over two months ago

nascartr 05-16-2009 05:29 PM

I don't have any errors although I used the file from the 3.7 version.

arcadian_girl 05-17-2009 05:43 AM

after reading back thru the thread, I'm gonna pass on this mod. Seemed like such a good idea, but it's got issues, and the developer has not only abandoned it, he seems to be taking ppls money and not responding, so.. yeah.

I hope someone else makes a good version of this - it would help me out SO much.

TomJames 05-18-2009 03:34 PM

That's a pity, was planning on installing this.

wolfstream 05-18-2009 03:48 PM

This mod runs fine, ignore those that balk about "Facebook has changed things", obviously they haven't used it.

I have this mod installed on two separate forums, and have yet to have an issue with things.

Remember, just because the author hasn't "updated the mod" in a while doesn't mean they've abandoned it. I mean, really, we DO have lives you know.

abrecher 05-18-2009 05:23 PM

I'm willing to contribute $$$ if someone wants to take over development....

wolfstream 05-18-2009 05:38 PM

It's really not as simple as "taking over development". Author's permission has to be given, a new release has to be made, etc.

From what I've seen though, this mod works. What, specifically are you having problems with?

820Media 05-18-2009 06:56 PM

i get the problem that when u click the FBconnect button nothing happens it just sticks a # on the end of my URL.

Check your application settings (@ facebook). make sure that the settings there are as they should be, and that you've actually pointed the right domain where it should be.

Check your admincp settings , make sure that you've got the right API key and the right Secret where they should be, and make sure you've got templates setup.

Make sure you've done the template edits as well.

820Media 05-18-2009 07:27 PM

Yup ive done everything..correct.

Canvas Callback URL: http://forums.jetgaming.org

Connect: http://jetgaming.org

And set right API and secret in ACP.

It is API right? Not Application..
