In order to use Google Sitemap in Webmaster tools, it is asking for my sitemap location...
I have entered http://www.mysite.com/forum/vbseo_si...p_index.xml.gz URL restricted by robots.txt We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit. but Google hates me. I have no robots.txt in place at this time. Am I using the correct location for my sitemap? I wonder if I can even ask this here. |
I have installed the mod and it's generating reports and everything looks fine.
But when I try to click on the sitemap_index.xml.gz file I get this error: Access Forbidden or Not found I only see the sitemap_index.xml.gz in the /vbseo_sitemap/data/ folder. I think I have done something wrong in the vBSEO Sitemap Settings. If anyone could help me - It would be nice  Thanks PS I have tested the mod_rewrite on my server - it is working..... |
Schnee,
you should submit http://www.mysite.com/forum/sitemap_index.xml.gz europez, did you create .htaccess file as described? |
Hi iojam
Thanks for getting back to me. I have my forum in the root dir. I have submitted: www.mysite.com/sitemap_index.xml.gz I have uploaded the .htaccess in my root, with this inside: RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L] But when I click on my Google Sitemap Index URL (www.mysite.com/sitemap_index.xml.gz) I get Object not found!. I don't see any sitemap_index.xml.gz in my root directory. Is this correct? Hope you have time to get back to me on this.. |
I installed the update a few days ago and selected "Yes" to include tag pages & social groups pages. Nevertheless the report shows Tag URL's & Social Groups URL's = 0.
Page update frequency for tags is daily (priority 0.8), for social groups weekly (priority 0.3) And yes, there're tags in the included forums ;-) What do i do wrong or does this feature need vBSEO? |
Thank you. Installed.
|
I installed it, but when I go to (directory)/vbseo_sitemap/, I get a 500 server error. Why?
|
europez,
make sure that mod_rewrite is supported on your host: http://www.vbseo.com/f77/how-check-i...my-site-21502/ MTGDarkness, don't you have .htaccess file in vbseo_sitemap/ folder? |
Hi iojam
mod_rewrite is supported :) No I don't have a .htaccess file in vbseo_sitemap/ folder Witch .htaccess file should that be? Thanks |
The htaccess in the vbseo folder was not mentioned anywhere... That would probably be my error. I'll try that. Err... Which htaccess file?

If you have .htaccess file in vbseo_sitemap/ folder, that might cause error 500, you should remove that file then (it's only requried in forums folder).
havard20009, try to disable "Include blog URLs" option. |
i removed .htaccess from vbseo_sitemap/data

Did you set 0777 permissions to vbseo_sitemap/data/ folder? Don't you have sitemap files in data/ folder?
|
Greetings. I know this is something trivial, and an easy fix, I just can't think of what is wrong at the moment.
I just erased all my old sitemaps, etc, from the sever, as well as Google, starting fresh. I just installed vB SEO, as well as the new version of the sitemap generator. However, when testing if it works or not, I get a 403 Forbidden message. What do I need to change, because if I can't access it, I highly doubt Google can. |
Hello,
make sure that you did not change permissions for vbseo_sitemap/ folder (0777 should be set ONLY for vbseo_sitemap/data/ folder). |
Hello, For some reason my sitemaps don't get generated and when i run them manually, i receive the following error:
Code:
Warning: fopen(/home/atomicfp/public_html/forum/vbseo_sitemap/data/sitemap_1.xml.gz) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/atomicfp/public_html/forum/vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_sitemap_functions.php on line 769 |
You should set 0777 permissions for vbseo_sitemap/data/ folder.
|
Okay, now I'm in. Followed directions to the letter. I can access it, etc. Can't actually run the generator, memory always gets exhausted. No access to the .ini file.
At any rate, the cron made a few sitemaps for me. However, when I submit to Google, it says file not found. Ok, so I'm thinking it has something to do with the .htaccess. No probs. i'll just move the bad boy to the root. NOPE. Still, file not found. bullspit, it's right there! heh. So, please, tell me, what am I doing wrong? |

Hiya,
I've been using this mod for ages now but last week my host decided to transfer my account to another server and since then I've had issues. I have .htaccess in my domain root with the following because the domain, and the parked .net domain, is set to not use the 'www.' sub Code:
Options +FollowSymLinks Code:
RewriteEngine On I've tried everything I can think of and all I have discovered is that if I delete the vBSEO .htaccess from the forum root the RewriteRule for removing the www. sub works perfectly. Can anyone help as this is starting to drive me insane. :( Thanks Sy |
therogueforums,
make sure that mod_rewrite is supported: http://www.vbseo.com/f77/how-check-i...my-site-21502/ AtomicFPS, if you have any files inside data/ folder, try to set 0666 permissions for them. Sym0n, put this to the top of forums/.htaccess: Code:
RewriteEngine on |
Does this work in 3.8?
|
Having similar issue as Sym0n (though I am forcing a www, and he's suppressing it), and the suggested fix didn't appear to work. I have a large number of domains pointing to same site, so my forced www code in my main htaccess file (root directory, not forums root) is this:
Code:
Options +FollowSymLinks I tried adding this to the top of the htaccess in the forums directory: Code:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. Thanks! |
I tried a more simple pairing of www. forcing to see if that would work, but I couldn't get it to work either:
in main htaccess file: Code:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain.com [NC] Code:
RewriteEngine On Code:
http://www.domain.com/forums//var/chroot/home/content/x/x/x/username/html/forums I'd love to get this to work, so any suggestions would be appreciated. If I can't get it to work, I was thinking about deep-sixing all of the htaccess masking for the sitemap data files, can I use a cron job to just move them after they are created into the root directory? If so, which files do i need to move? |
Thanks its work.
