bigsbydapicka 05-12-2007 09:51 PM

I had it running on two sites. One it works and the other it does not......very weird! Please look into this as it's clear there is an issue. You've got a group indicating there's an issue.

bigsbydapicka 05-12-2007 10:06 PM

FYI...Cyb's hack causes the same issue???

Which hack by Cyb? I have two of his running without issues and no adjustments after the upgrade.

Have you flushed your browser cache?

What other add-ons do you have, especially that are different from one site to the next? What about the template? Is it compatible with 3.66?

Because what IS clear is that it's not an issue for everyone.

It does it with no other addons running. Templates were the stock 3.6.6 versions.

Totally Agree as I have two sites. One that it works on and one that it doesn't. I also have Two machines. A laptop supplied by by employer running IE 6.09 and my machine runs 7.0.573.11 and on both IE hangs up but Mozilla works fine. A lot of my members complained of the same issue before I brought it up here.

runestone 05-12-2007 11:33 PM

Update: I've fixed the problem with IE hanging by uninstalling and then re-installing the hack in the Admin Control Panel > Plugins & Products > Manage Products.

Hopefully this easy fix works for others who are having troubles.

EDIT: It worked for a while then broke again. I have have no idea what's going on and will leave it disabled until a fix is found.

Total666 05-13-2007 02:53 AM

Weird , it works 100 % here with IE 7 and mozilla .. Total

I cannot fix something I cannot replicate, or even hazard a guess at. Like I said, i've been running this on 3.6.6 for a while without any problems (and I use IE6).

Unless someone can tell me how to reproduce the effect, or give me access to a site that reproduces it on demand then there is nothing I can do - there is no magic wand I can wave.

bigsbydapicka 05-13-2007 05:00 PM

ok.....sad cuz it worked perfectly before3.6.6.... clicks uninstall.

blackleg 05-14-2007 04:51 PM

I uninstalled it, because I said before it is not working with 3.6.6 (ie6 and ie7 too)

but now some of my pages, I mean some threads aren't opening normal, they are so slow and always ie is giving error report...

if someone want to see the problem I can give link and a username with pass.
And if someone wants to try to solve the problem I can give my admin pass... (Only to coders and Paul M;) :D )

It is clearly not an IE7 problem or an IE6 problem, since several people, including me, have it working fine on both. The last time people starting blaming IE7 for something, we got the new crappy insert link popup. :(

And it's not an issue with the plug-in per se since many have it working fine with 3.66, including me.

It may be another plug-in or it may be a 3.66 issue - others are reporting slowdowns since upgrading, although I'm not seeing any significant difference.

If you PM me an admin login I will try and have a look at the specific problem you have with this mod (sometime in the next day or two) but I can't look at anything else. My time is limited.

bigsbydapicka 05-14-2007 10:21 PM

Hey Paul. If you're not seeing the problem from your machine you probably wont when you look at his site. You almost need someone to give you remote access so you can see what we're dealing with. I'd love to get the mod running again so if you need a Guinea Pig.......;)

This is happening to my board as well. When I disable it, all is well. But if I upload the dlient script files from 3.6.5 everything is fine. Does that help you? If you want, I can send you our test admin. Let me know.

Interesting, the only thing I can think of that uses clientscript is the collapse code. Please send me a test admin login, so I can take a look tonight.

Read the thread.

Averkiev 05-16-2007 07:52 PM

Thanx for a good hack, I hope you'll find soon that strange problem, it works for me with IE6.029 and VB3.67PL1 (they must be logged in to see this hack on my forum)

Thank you Lisa.

I took a look at Lisa's forum and indeed got my IE6 to lockup with a script problem.

However, after investigating, I tracked the error to the displaying of the names and upon further investigation found that there was no fault with this modification, the actual problem was with the html markup being used to colour the names on the forum.

What I found was that she had an opening span tag to set the style colour, but the closing tag did not have the / in it (i.e. <span> instead of </span>). Because of the number of names being displayed by the modification, this resulted in a whole load of opening <span> tags with no corresponding closing tag - and for some reason this seems to combine with the latest vb366/367 javascripts to totally upset certain browsers (like IE6).

So, I'm currently satisfied that this problem is a combination of the latest vb clientscripts and faulty usergroup markup html (tags not being closed properly). This is why it only happens in a handful of cases. While Jelsoft might want to look at why their latest code dies in some browsers with tag mismatches, the fix seems to be to make sure your markup html is correct.

djbaxter 05-16-2007 11:53 PM

!!!

Excellent detective work there, Paul! :D

bigsbydapicka 05-17-2007 12:06 AM

Wish it helped.

GrendelKhan{TSU 05-17-2007 03:35 AM

maybe this is beyond intention of mod but...

Question (or maybe REQ):
Is there anyway to control time period for this (ie: make 24 hour part our choice)?

ie: I want to make it "who has visited in last 7 days"... possible?

that would be esp beneficial to smaller forums that still want to show activity on boards (people still interested if looks like people have been on within a few days+ period. 24 hrs can be tight for smaller boards.)

Paul M 05-17-2007 06:58 AM

You could easily edit the plugin slightly yourself to do that, the displayed times (on hover) would become somewhat meaningless though.

Well if you read what I posted and then actually fixed the usergroup html on your forum it would. I can see from just browsing your forum that you have opening tags, with no closing tags.

Roonie 05-17-2007 09:25 PM

Please actually read the last few posts instead of just posting - the problem (which is not with this mod) is explained. You could start with the post above yours, and post #620.

JFYI, Jelsoft are aware of the issue with the latest clientscript files, IE and username markup. I expect some fix will be made available, in the meantime this mod does have the option to suppress the actual names being displayed, which will stop the locking issue until such time as they do.

Of course, if you fix your markup html, that will also solve the issue ;)

bigsbydapicka 05-17-2007 10:41 PM

Paul, My comment simply meant I'm not a coder so you're news does not help me. It was not intended as a slam. All my templates are the stock 3.6.6 versions. I have no idea where to look for these issues and I did poke around and did not find any open tags.

Paul M 05-17-2007 10:47 PM

If you didn't understand the explanation then ask, if you don't ask then I will assume you did. :)

Go into your usergroup manager, about the third option is "Username HTML Markup" ;

There are two fields, the first is the opening tag in which you have something like this
Quote:

<strong style=color:#99001A>

You should then have an entry in the second box to close the tag - in your case this should be
Quote:

</strong>
You do not have the closing tag in your markup.

bigsbydapicka 05-17-2007 11:32 PM

Oh Man.....I'm no coder but I certainly knew to do that. I suck.....and the mod now works perfectly.

Thankyou!!!!!

bigsbydapicka 05-17-2007 11:32 PM

Question.....how did you know just from browsing that this was the case????

Paul M 05-17-2007 11:55 PM

View page > right click > view source > check html. :)

bigsbydapicka 05-18-2007 12:50 AM

lol......I have much to learn!!!!

woohoo!! figured it out. I feel so cool. :) (for a non-programmer).

for referecne in case someone else wants to: just change
Code:

$cutoff = TIMENOW - 86400;
86400 is seconds in one day. so just change that to however many seconds in however many days you want.

make sure to change text to reflex it~!

search for
Code:

Total members that have visited the forum in the last 24 hours:
change "last 24 hours" to whatever time frame you chose.

again, like Paul says... makes last time they were on board kinda meaningless, but there are certainly cases where that is less important than showing lots of activity on your boards. :)
