Because you didn't follow the install instructions. You didn't add the language file. Reinstall the language file again. ;)

Hi,

Check the 3rd option in 'general settings' of mgc evo

Hey,

Were there any big changes from the 2.3.2 version to 2.4.2 version? I mean in speed and overall stability... Im just still using 2.3.2 and not sure if i should upgrade to 2.4.2 now or wait to upgrade to vb4 and get that chatbox for that version when available.

Personally, I'd suggest upgrading to VB4, and getting all your plugins etc back on (as you can't use just about all vb3 plugins on vb4). Google for the VB4 version of inferno chat and install that until this is converted. I expect the VB4 version to be coming out around March.

It's stable. It's always been fast. If not, I'd question the server it's on.

kronnos 02-06-2010 03:38 PM

Thanks for getting the change log posts for me. Would have taken a while searching 400 pages:)

Cant upgrade to VB4 yet due to the style conversion issue. Could still take a while so will have to stay with 3.8 for another while:)

I asked if 2.4.2 version would be faster because after the 2.3 version there was supposed to be some ajax system working to make things smother. Though maybe that made some major diff. If not then I guess i can wait till the vb4 version...

Thanks

I have been getting the following error ever since I installed this chat box. I have tried to uninstall it, and it will not uninstall. I have tried to turn it off and I still get the message.... HELP my email box is getting overrun with error emails.

Thank you in advance.

Reinstall the same version you had before. Then open up the zip and FOLLOW the uninstall instructions. Problem fixed.

Hi!
Really like the idea of a chat, but I have a question.
Is the Russian language file shipped in the archive compatible with the latest version?

Yoyo..... You answered your own question. ;) If you open up the zip, you'll notice: MGC_Chatbox_evo_2.4.2.zip\Lang\Not_updated\Russian.xml 05/18/2008.... ;)

If you want to update it, you'd have to do that yourself.

yoyoman 02-12-2010 03:30 AM

I really like the chat!
And as I understood the translation of the xml file is needed only for the admin CP. To translate the user interface of the chat I just need to change un peu phrases de Francais. Ce vrai? ;)
So I wanna buy the full license. What is the procedure?

And btw, just curious, how does your chat function without a mysql database setup?

yoyoman.

Why is it saying chatbox then? & the script that its trying to hit is chatbox.php

I have been looking up the IPs of the offending parties and they seem to be google & MS bots. Do they search from cached pages.

Ok I found the lingering file ... its all better now!

goxy63 02-12-2010 10:56 PM

Hi! I bought the license. Waiting for activation ;)

In the meanwhile, can you give me hint where do I modify the "rules page", the "help page" and other stuff that the users can see? I need to translate them to Russian.

Another modification can be causing the Chat to act up, again it does not mean it's the chat specifically although that does lead you to believe such... do you have vBOptimise installed?? If so disable it to see it that helps otherwise I had a similar issue with the chatbox AND users not being able to switch styles when I had done 4 styles for a new client and after tracking it down to vB Optimise I had to uninstall it completely before the Chatbox and the style changer would work properly. I like vB Optimise but some forums and other modifications do not get along with it.

This is already resolved. Thanks.

Ok Ive been having many database errors and noticed that the chatbox has been eating up most of the resources. Obviously the chatbox does not show to unregistered visitors and the auto refresh in about 60 sec and its still a huge problem. BTW, im still running v2.3.2.

Anyway, I noticed that my mgc_cb_evo_chat database is about 40MG which is only half as small as the post database with over 200k posts. Im thinking could that be the problem? Do you guys delete old chats?

BTW, displaying avatars in posts, adds a few extra sql queries right?

fyi, "select * from chatbox" translates to "get every row from the table chatbox..etc", but there is no table in mgc chatbox evo called "chatbox" (it's tables are all prefixed by mgc_cb_evo_) which suggests the error is referring to another mod.

a suggestion: disable ajax (problematic ajax should be enough to disable) in vbulletin options and see if the utilization remains high. mgc_cb_evo_ajax.php always drives my load avg thru the roof by making a lot of database queries and disabling the problematic ajax seems to limit it.

It's 40 megs because you are not pruning your chat at ALL. So, when someone comes to the site, it loads a huge file keeping cpu usage high. ;)

kronnos 02-14-2010 06:03 PM

Im prunning just at a 30 day interval. Now changed it to 7 days and removed the avatars. Will see what happens....

Hi Ranger!
How do I set the "Automatic refresh" period and what is the default value?
I want my chatbox to refresh every 3 seconds.

Go to the usergroup manager. I forget what the default is but you have to edit it for each usergroup.

How do you disable ajax and what are the negative side effects of disabling it?

Thanks

Ranger187 02-19-2010 05:29 AM

You don't.

Deimos 02-19-2010 03:19 PM

Just installed it aok, but I'm getting database error emails on occasion, which read

UPDATE user
SET mgc_cb_evo_banned='0',mgc_cb_evo_bantime='0'
WHERE mgc_cb_evo_bantime<'1266597013';

MySQL Error : Unknown column 'mgc_cb_evo_banned' in 'field list'

I'm also noticing a rather significant delay before a message actually appears in the message listing? Is there a reason for that?

Any help is appreciated :)

Sounds to me like you had it installed before or did an upgrade without sending all the files. You can also create this table in phpmyadmin. But I'd reupload all the files again, and reimport.
