VICOS 08-04-2003 05:06 AM

Smilies are broken.

<img src="images/smilies/cool.gif" border="0" alt="">

images needs to be absolute -> /images...

Any ideas?

P.S. U might want to start a new thread to track issues. I made it to pp 20 looking for an answer to this before my eyes started spinning. :)

Khashyar 08-09-2003 05:37 PM

Hi guys....

The forum archive software works well without glitches....

The only thing that I am a bit confused about is that although I have over 600 posts in my forum, Google has only indexed about 109 posts after 1 1/2 months on having the archive software installed.

In fact, Google has indexed only 109 posts in my forum steadily for about 3 or 4 weeks now.

Could there be any reason why Google is not spidering the other 500 posts in my forum?

The link to my forum archive is here: http://www.russianmeetingplace.com/f...orum_archives/

Thank you for any feedback,

Khashyar

Khashyar 08-09-2003 05:42 PM

Another question for everyone...

Would it be a good idea to install 2 DIFFERENT types of VB forum archives softeware? I was thinking that the different search engine archiving software might work best with different search engines.

What does everyone think?

Inktomi and altavista have been on my board for over a week now.

Inktomi is surfing the forums with as many as 40 bots at a time.

Altavista keeps appearing as browsing the archives.

Inktomi does hit the archives too, but the majority of the activity is on the regular forums.

PhoenixBB 08-21-2003 12:20 AM

Yes, this is confusing me. Inktomi is currently browsing but the threads it's looking at are on the main board, there is no mention of the archives.

Also I noted it's looking at things which aren't part of the archive, like the calendar, journals, memberslist, and trying to register. I have a link back to the main index and portal on the archive page, but I made sure to put it in the footer. Would have expected if it was exploring that link it would have gone thru the archive ones first.

I definitely submitted the correct url for the archives, so does anyone know why they don't appear to be searching in there?

Thanx

Nixpeiler 09-02-2003 09:21 AM

with me archives make for daily very much with over 7000 visitors traffic
now I switched on there also times gzip
it is very simple to make by the entry ob_start("ob_gzhandler");

there are certainly still different possibilities
but in addition my knowledge is not sufficient

but perhaps has who another solution
I hope I could some somewhat help here with my idea

Importhookup 09-05-2003 03:10 PM

Hello Guys,

This may be a stupid question but I want to make sure that I'm filling in the right information.

In the instructions it says to modify the config.php:

// Forums URL - Directory your vbulletin forums are in (NO TRAILING SLASH!)

$forumurl="http://www.importhookup.com";

I'm wondering if i need to add the "/forums" at the end of it because that's where my forum is located. Thank you guys for the great mod :)

Xenon 09-05-2003 06:19 PM

yes, you have to add the /forums

Fking 09-09-2003 08:36 PM

something very weird is happening

i installed the final version of this script
it worked from the frist time BUT
on the top it loads my custom 404 page, in the middle the archive page and on the bottom again the 404 page

when i click some of the archive links, it loads again, 404 on top, archive in the middle and 404 on bottom

weird, heh?

any suggestions?

Xenon 09-09-2003 08:41 PM

hmm, have you uploaded header and footerfiles correctly?

quick question, i installed the hack without a hitch(very easy) but im wondering doesnt google follow the links on your page to index your site, theefore if i dont have a link to my /archive/ directory how will it index my bbs.

should i just add a hidden link on my main site to /archive/?

thanks for the hack.

Xenon 09-17-2003 09:14 PM

as stated in the installation hints you should add a text link into your header/footer or forumhome :)

*EDIT*

Issue resolved by my provider, http://www.fastservers.net -they rock!

I have my archive back! Yea!

smestas 09-24-2003 06:27 PM

Greetings all!

I've just finished moving my site from one server to another and now my archive page is no longer working. I thought perhaps the new server didnt have the mentioned "mod_mime & mod_rewrite" but the servers admin has verified that it does have those running.

I've gone thru all my archive files and all seems to be correct. What am I missing?

Here is all I see when a archive page tries to load.
"Warning: main(global.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/www/alfabb/bb/forums/archive/config.php on line 11"

smestas 09-24-2003 09:35 PM

Got it fixed!

The issue was already discussed about previously in this same thread. All I had to do was to edit my path to "global.php" in the config file and it worked.

smestas 09-24-2003 11:30 PM

OK,

Now I got a new problem which I didnt have before switching hosts. It seems that the initial archive page is loading but all of the links on the page produce a blank page. What gives?

I've went thru this thread to make sure that I'm not asking a question that has already been answered but so far none of the recomended fixes have worked. Im also running the latest version.

Regards,

smestas 09-29-2003 06:24 AM

Does anyone have a work around for those without "ForceType" running on their server?

Darkwaltz 10-01-2003 09:40 PM

i get this error

Warning: main(): stream does not support seeking in /home/fithoslu/public_html/forums/archive/index.php on line 103

Darkwaltz 10-01-2003 10:38 PM

fixed thanks to a previous post by S.Shady

thankin you :P

Please help me
I got

Internal Server Error

whenever I click a link..
http://www.gamerzonline.net/forum/archive

julius 10-15-2003 09:56 PM

In control panel options (settings) if I put NO vb codes in signatures, vb codes are not active in the archive too, even if the forum has vb codes ON.

It seems like the options of activating vbcodes, smiles and img codes in the archive are the same of the signature options ... and not those of the forums options.

Will this hack work with vB 3.0???? If not, is there another similar google hack around?

Thanks in advance.

lnissen 10-21-2003 10:09 PM

Yes, it works with vB 3.0

Lexserv 10-24-2003 12:15 AM

Well, I'm getting this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: getpermissions() in /home/mydomain/public_html/google/index.php on line 14

How do I rectify this problem?

atomic fireball 11-14-2003 07:16 AM

Hey there SkuZZy, I just wanted to drop you a big thanks for this archive hack.

It installed in literally minutes, and our board's archive is now up and running.
Here's the example of our Archive section:
http://www.thedigitalreview.com/forum/archive/

It's simple, loads super fast, and I'm sure our archive will be on Google in a bit.
Thanks for your work on this!
