Search Engine Bots (Spiders): Anything that changes your forum viewing can impact how search engines treat it. The cookie approach used by this modification is bypassed by many bots and, since people can still view posts, cloaking should not apply. Users with IP logging may face more restrictions although a filtering system lets defined spiders pass. This plugin is intended to limit repetitive viewing and not restrict people from single views.

For a full explanation of the impact on bots read the install file before asking questions.

Installed it but wouldn't work on my 4.2.2 version.

DemOnstar 03-09-2014 07:35 AM

Does this restriction apply to article viewing also?

Ok, when you view threads in blocked forums as a guest, does the lgv cookie get set? Does the value change as you reload/ view more?

oldfan 03-12-2014 05:59 PM

weave 03-24-2014 03:30 PM

What are your settings? Do you see the LGV cookie get set and updated for your site?

ravenfaust 03-11-2015 11:37 PM

Yes i have those and its just showing above the post.. not sure how to make it hide the post and show the please register message instead

Not the message, the actually cookie named lgv that should increment as you view threads. If that's not the case, that's where we start.

Is there any chance that this mod can be modified so it effects also the printable version?

What i mean is:
If you are not logged in (guest), and you go to a topic, than you can only read first post of the topic.
But on the Navbar there is an option Thread Tools --> Show Printable Version.

If you click on this, the whole topic and so the whole forum is readable.
Would be nice if this was disabled also...

pityocamptes 05-09-2015 09:06 PM

Installed on 4.2.2 not working, no prompt, etc. telling a guest to register...

ForceHSS 05-09-2015 09:13 PM

Had it on 4.2.2 worked for me but removed it when it stopped google crawl bots

pityocamptes 05-09-2015 09:13 PM

How would I trouble shoot this? Where to begin? Thanks.

If you use Google Adsense best not to use this

pityocamptes 05-09-2015 09:39 PM

I do, what is the issue?

With google bot it will block it from checking your site

pityocamptes 05-09-2015 10:01 PM

ok. Doesnt work anyways. Anyone have a different type of guest force registration?

ForceHSS 05-09-2015 10:13 PM

It does work, but if you don't explain what settings you have or what way you have config it its hard to help

pityocamptes 05-09-2015 10:17 PM

Well, should I try it again? Or do you know without a doubt that it will tank google from looking at my site? If it does prohibit google, do you have any other options or mods that may encourage guests to register? Thanks.

ForceHSS 05-09-2015 10:56 PM

Unless you get a mod made this one will stop google and other bots crawling your site. If you want to use it up to you

What makes you believe Google is not crawling your site due to the modification? What had you set it to?

Version 2.2.2 FAIL :(

emath 03-15-2017 07:46 AM

Anyone can tell if this works with VB4.2.2 ?

And answer the following:

1) is it prohibiting the "printed" versions as well ?
2) will it block google bot ? ( as I understand, it should not, but according to the above posts..)

john7911 03-15-2017 11:14 AM

How can I translate it to French?
Thank you ;)

OK I found the solution ;)

xyzmaria2001 04-29-2017 04:13 PM

I just installed this on vBulletin 4.2.4 and it works perfectly. Thanks!

ScaffForum 06-08-2017 05:46 AM

Hi,

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but I have added this in the manage products page on plugins and products but when I go to the options it is not there for me to activate. Have I missed a step or done something wrong?

I've made lil change to the mod :

I've added a "superior usergroups" option to the mod, so if user has one of this usergroups and one of the "blocked usergroups", then he will still be able to view threads.

This is good for a case when you might want to allow subscription without waiting for email confirmation, and yet block the Awaiting Email Confirmation group.

To use it, just upload the attached xml instead of the original one.

On the same note, I would like to thank Ted S for this great mod.

enjoy

I've discovered that this mod is completely ignored on tapatalk.

I guess that's just the way it is, and we have so many platforms now that things are just getting trickier -- but it'd be cool if someone knows of a workaround.

Tapatalk simply comments out most PHP plugin hooks in the Tapatalk version of vB its users experience, so any custom code relying on those ignored hooks just doesn't get executed. :erm:
