Got it working. I had to allow "Everyone" Full Control.
Still have 3 issues:

1. The file created is located in /vbseo_sitemap/data when it needs to be created in the root of the web. I tried changing this value in the AdminCP, but didn't save in the root.
2. The file is a .gz when it needs to be an uncompressed sitemap.xml
3. The results show [create sitemap index] filename: sitemap_index.xml.gz, number of sitemaps: 1 [3,112.0Kb mem used] [0s (+0s)]. The conpressed file is 2Kb and uncompressed 30Kb. Why is this when the report says 3.1MB?

Thanks.

iojam 12-12-2008 07:04 PM

1. files are stored in data/ folder, but are rewritten with rewrite rules in .htaccess file.

2. gzip compressed sitemaps are supported by Google.

3. what is the size of sitemap_1.xml.gz?

Thanks for the reply.
1. I'm running IIS7 on Srv 08. How do I proceed?
2. Noted that there is no need to decompress.
3. 1.2Kb. Uncompressed it is 30Kb. But when I open the decompressed file, it looks ok. My concern is that the report says 3.11MB: [create sitemap index] filename: sitemap_index.xml.gz, number of sitemaps: 1 [3,112.0Kb mem used] [0s (+0s)].

iojam 12-12-2008 08:49 PM

Hello,

1. you should use rewrite rules for IIS (check installation instructions), ISAPI_Rewrite module is required

3. This is a PHP memory usage report, it's not related to file size.

eglyntine 12-14-2008 05:36 AM

Hi all,

I have been trying to get this to work for a couple of days now. I've looked all over but I haven't seen the particular error that I'm getting so I thought I would brave the wild and finally ask.

I uploaded all of the files in the upload dir to my forum root, changed the data folder perm to 0777.

I already have an .htaccess file so I added the required lines to it so it looks like this:

Code:

Redirect /forums/ http://www.houseofparents.com/
AddHandler php5-script .php
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]

I installed the product and left the settings pretty much at default. I don't have vbSEO installed so that was changed to "No".

Everything looks great but when I try to generate the sitemap I get the following error:

Code:

Database Error

No other error codes or anything are displayed so I don't even know where to begin to look. But I do get this generated to my e-mail afterwards:

Code:

Do I need to manually create this table or is there something else that I've failed to setup that wasn't in the instructions?

I'm running vBulletin 3.7.4 PL. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. I'd really like to have this Add-on for my site. :)

Thanks,

Thank you for providing this, but is there a particular way that the extra urls text file is meant to be laid out? as I have been getting a mismatched tag error in sitemap 1 file, ever since adding urls to the extra-urls.txt. I couldn't find any reference on how this was to be done so I assumed that I just add them in sitemap format which is what I did. Before adding extra urls everything appeared to be working fine.

Thanks for your help.

Could someone please help me with this because I do not know what I am doing wrong.

When I open up the sitemap_1 file it generates my forum root url first and then it follows with this:

Code:

<url>
  <loc><url></loc>
  <priority>1</priority>
  <lastmod>2008-12-14T10:45:24+00:00</lastmod>
  <changefreq>daily</changefreq>
</url>

From then on it is all out of wack until it goes back to my forum urls.

Here is an example of the format that I have used in the extra-urls.txt:
Code:

<url>
        <loc></loc>
        <priority>1.00</priority>
        <lastmod>2007-10-30</lastmod>
        <changefreq>daily</changefreq>
</url>

I am sure this is something really simple and would appreciate any help.

Thank you

Nevermind, I finally found the solution on your forums but now I am having a problem with google giving me sitemap errors for all but the last sitemap:

Quote:

Sitemap file size error
Your Sitemap exceeds the maximum file size limit. Please create multiple Sitemaps containing fewer URLs to meet the file size limit.

Sherrie 12-14-2008 10:54 AM

Okay I found a setting in the control panel to change the maximum urls which has fixed this issue.

cheers

rock3radio 12-14-2008 06:09 PM

Hi I'm having a problem. It works fine most of the time but is missing out a large number of my threads. They're controled by VbGeek's GARS system but surely that shouldn't be a problem? I also have vbSEO installed.

iojam 12-14-2008 10:06 PM

eglyntine,

you should remove all entries from "Add-ons" list option in case if you don't have corresponding modules installed.

rock3radio,

are those threads visible to guests?

eglyntine 12-15-2008 12:43 AM

It worked! Thanks so much! :)

rock3radio 12-15-2008 06:20 PM

HI iojam, yes they are both viewable and one can even be posted in by unregistered users. I've checked all my sitemaps and none are listed. I even tried changing the permissions to basically a free for all then generating the sitemap but still no luck.

iojam 12-18-2008 05:01 PM

Hello,

with the latest version a scheduled task should be created automatically, please check the list of task and search for "sitemap" in it.

mmoore5553 12-20-2008 06:02 PM

okay i have installed this ...how do i check if it is wokring. i seen it says google bot downloaded it but if i look in google and see if my site has a sitemap ..it only shows add ? is there something else i was suppose to do ? sorry for such the newbie requests ....

iojam 12-21-2008 06:23 PM

CP,

sometimes Yahoo fails to receive the ping, I wouldn't worry about that and recommend to manually submit it to yahoo here: https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/mysites

Divvy,

you can enter "vbseo_sitemap_task" as varname.

mmoore5553,

you should manually submit sitemap_index.xml.gz in Google Webmaster Account to check that's parsed correctly.

prob solved thanx

veenuisthebest 12-22-2008 10:10 AM

There's no problem in your sitemap. Infact, this is how sitemap looks.

Quote:

can u plz explain me this

CHMOD 777 the 'forum-root/vbseo_sitemap/data/' folder

This just means that you need to give write permissions to data folder, which you had already given I suppose, that is why your sitemap is created successfully.

jiteshdubey11 12-22-2008 10:41 AM

thanx bro
but no such file /forum/sitemap_1.xml.gz is created
can u tell me how togive write permission to data folder..........

veenuisthebest 12-22-2008 11:25 AM

check it once mere bhai! It is created:

http://devilsfunhouse.org/forum/sitemap_1.xml.gz

ATVTorture 12-22-2008 02:36 PM

I'm trying to figure out how to make vbseo put the sitemap on the domain root rather than in the forumsroot/vbseo_sitemap/data/ folder but can't quite seem to figure it out.

My guess is that it has something to do with the rewrite url in the .htaccess file but I don't know what to change it toto make it work correctly.

Currently I have an htaccess file in my domain root, forums root and the forumsroot/vbseo_sitemap/data/ folder but they all say the same thing. I'm guessing one of them needs to be changed or removed.

This is what they all 3 say:
Quote:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap_).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ forums/vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]
I see in the admin panel there's a setting for Sitemap Files URL, but putting my domain url in there doesn't change anything once I re-run it. As a matter of fact, the cron runs, says done, and it now hasn't updated the file anywhere apparently. Well, I don't see a sitemap file on the root anyway. however, if I type this url in my browser: http://www.mydomain.com/sitemap_1.xml.gz, a current sitemap pulls up. I'm confused.

Can someone give me some help?

Thanks!

ATVTorture 12-22-2008 03:33 PM

OK, I think I have this figured out and it does indeed appear to be working although a "sitempa" file isn't being generated on the root.

Yes, it DOES work, that way only.

The .htaccess in forums root is taking care of sitemap url being called from forum root despite it actually resides in data folder.

1. Delete the .gz files from your vbseo_sitemap/data folder manually.
2. Disable the Yahoo Text sitemap option in sitemap settings.
3. Run sitemap again.

Add it to extra-urls.txt manually.
