I love this program but I think it needs an update with a stronger filtering method. I have it to the point where I removed my Contact Us link and my questions are now movie trivia that makes you know the answer or have to research it.

abaton 07-09-2007 01:35 PM

I am using the german VB Version, but I am not able to find the template quick_register. Where can I find it please?

da420 07-09-2007 05:01 PM

Do you have the Quick Register mod installed ?

If you read the instructions the only reason that template would need to be edited is if you have the Quick Register mod installed.

No the Quick Register is not installed and ... ;) I haven't found it until now

And it doesn't work without

da420 07-09-2007 05:59 PM

What doesn't work without ?

abaton 07-10-2007 06:41 AM

I don't have the new Question on the Register Form Perhabs, because I haven't installed the Quick Register?
I assume that I have to put some code in the Register Form, but ... I have no Idea where to put what :)
Sometimes I do have a lot of problems in understanding everything about coding, even when it is in German :)

eJM 07-15-2007 11:31 PM

I installed and tested NoSpam! for 3.6 today and think it is just the answer I need for stopping all the spam I get from the Contact Us form. My older members will prob'ly also appreciate not having to decipher an image to register too.

My question: Where can I edit the color of the "...you have answered the question wrong..." text so that it shows up better? The error shows on a dark background for the registration form and during my test, I barely noticed it. I'd like to make it a lot more noticeable.

Hope someone can help me out. Other than that, this looks like a great little product. Thanks for your nice work, antialiasis.

Jim

RichieScott1 07-16-2007 09:07 PM

well i installed this today and i seem to have double boxes in all the areas that the mod is inabled on
also on the registration page i have a box outside at the top of the page
is this just some code i can remove or has it gone wrong
hope to get some help with this
thanks

eJM 07-16-2007 11:03 PM

Richie, it sounds like you got a double installation problem. If you had a problem and tried to do another import of the XML file, but forgot to allow overwrite, you could get dual installations. Could that be a possibility?

I cannot do this step
Quote:

Now go to your template manager and edit the quick_register template. FIND this code:
as I cannot find the quick_register template.

I have looked under the styles/template and cannot find it in 3.6.7. Got everything else done. But it is still not working on the site.

stejoh 07-22-2007 08:30 AM

Works perfect on our forum 99nicu.org (vB 3.6.7 PL1)!
Thanks!

How did you do this part above?

da420 07-22-2007 11:32 PM

Read the instructions. You misread them, that's why you don't see that template.

Ok I see that is for other hacks. But I have done everything that was said in the install file. Also did the manual stuff in the troubleshoot and still nothing. Just the regular registration and contact us screen. No new feature. Any ideas?

Installed and working great. Thanks.

Anyone got any ideas. Still cannot get it to show up on the registration yet I have it installed and the questions/answers are setup.

The author hasn't been on vB.org since July 1 and hasn't responded to this discussion since June 10.

the instructions talk about installing another mod quickregister. I really don't wnat to do that becuase I've customized some stuff in the registration. So.. will this work without quickregister?

eJM 07-27-2007 03:38 AM

Yes.

Code:

              $answer = trim($answer);
            }

I had the exact same error on integrating this with the Form mod. I followed the integration directions exactly. So I changed the mod as antialiasis notes above (by removing those lines) -- and it does let the form go through if they answer CORRECTLY. However, if they don't answer correctly they get a 404 error.

If the code above is NOT removed, if they answer correctly they get the server error mrgrimes mentioned, but if they answer INCORRETLY they get a warning page telling them to go back (which is what they should get when it's wrong).

So to make it simple, the 'fix' recommended above breaks the question for wrong answers, and not using the 'fix' breaks it for right ones!?!? Any idea why or any help on this? I'm using the latest Form 4.0 (and vb 3.6.5).

Thanks

Doesn't work with 3.6.8. Hack is dead.

dr. sarf 08-15-2007 08:07 AM

Only just got around to finally finding and installing this! Excellent mod and will do away with those nasty unreadable image verifications! Thanks again

Well this is true for the first couple months at least. I have to agree with the person above you. This hack is dead for 3.8. I am getting SPAM 8 times a day now even if I change the questions around.

KipLarson 08-15-2007 08:59 PM

Yah, i'm still getting spam too.

lazytown 08-16-2007 01:57 AM

The hack works great for me EXCEPT for the "Form" mod/hack. Of course, I'm using 3.6.5. When you say it's 'dead' for 3.6.8, what exactly is the problem?

TigerWare 08-19-2007 06:01 PM

Just installed on a 3.6.8 board that isn't public yet.

I'm trying to nail down as many holes as possible to keep spammers, scammers and other undesirables off the forum. My tests so far show that this product does what is says it does, at least in so far as I get the error messages when not filling out the forms with the correct answers to my questions.

The statement regarding this product being dead for 3.6.8 could do with some clarification. I would hate to go public to find myself open to posts by internet bots and other scum.

I'm going to assume by the tone of some of the lasts posts that this is an integration problem/issue and not one that would affect this product on it's own?

Regards
TW

This worked fine on anything prior to 3.6.8. Upgrading to 3.6.8 meant that potential people who wanted to join our forum (we around 15 per day) could not. They reported that they could not see the spam question. I just tested this and this is correct. The dialogue box is missing for no-spam sign ups after the 3.6.8 upgrade.

I disabled nospam and have had 10 people sign up from Ekinowok already today. :(

jdebler 08-19-2007 09:23 PM

I am running 3.6.8 and I just tested it. It works fine for me.

randychase 08-20-2007 12:22 AM

Interesting. Perhaps it is a combination of things such VBadvanced or VBgallery? I don't have much else hacked or different. jdebler, I just registered on your forum and it worked perfectly. On this forum www.elisetalk.com, it does not.

randychase 08-20-2007 01:22 AM

For what it is worth, I simply uninstalled it and the installed it again and it does work fine once I did that. Upgrading over it with 3.6.8 made it not work correctly for me. Re-installing fixed it.

Yay... no more spam bots.

D&Y 08-26-2007 04:12 PM

Awasome Mod !

Thanks M8

Installed.

Symmetrical? 08-26-2007 04:18 PM

thanx installed very nice mod ..

Broekie 08-31-2007 06:10 AM

Well, I've uninstalled and reinstalled it twice, but it doesn't work for me on 3.6.7 PL1.

Even tried the manual template modifications, but I still don't see the question and input box, while I do get an error the answer is wrong when I try to submit the registration form.

Any ideas?

Biggles 09-01-2007 07:41 PM

I had problems after upgrading to 3.6.8. A complete reload did the trick and it is definitely working fine now. This is a great hack that keeps most spammers off the system. I thoroughly recommend it, recognizing that a determined human spammer can usually get through somehow. In that event I guess we just revert to the banning system, which works pretty darned well too.

Again, my thanks for this hack - installed once again, thank goodness!

Ohiosweetheart 09-03-2007 08:07 PM

I haven't had a single spammer since installing this. Whether that's just dumb luck or this really works, I don't know, but thanks! :)

eJM 09-03-2007 08:30 PM

Oh jeez, I forgot all about you, Peggy. I'll be right over to spread a little spam around. Sorry for neglecting you. :D

ETDC 09-08-2007 10:40 PM

Brilliant! Thanks muchly. :)

DudeSicko 09-09-2007 10:58 AM

Just updated to 3.6.8 and not its no longer working, even if i try to reinstall it.

xtumen 09-11-2007 05:57 PM

antialiasis, is it possible to include an option to use the hack in "e-mail to user" forms, just like in registration and new threads/posts forms? That would be great!

eJM 09-11-2007 11:17 PM

I just upgraded to 3.6.8 and tested this hack with IE7, FF2 and Opera9. All worked fine. Is it possible those having trouble didn't catch the template edits? Without more information about the problems, it would be difficult for the author to help.

Jim
