Yo, Gio, I made a bunch of changes to your mod:
  1. Editing first post edits threadfields
  2. Separate label for editing and displaying
  3. Option to add threadfield to title of thread
  4. Contols on each thread field to display on forumdisplay and thread display
  5. and probably a few more!
How would you like me to handle distributing this? As my own mod while crediting you for the original design and implementation? As an add-on (but it's really a replacement)? Other ideas?

Any reason that you can't use HTML when creating a field? I need to have images as one of my selectable regions, and everytime I save a field, it cuts off the end of the HTML code, creating errors. Anyway around this?

Digital Jedi 10-18-2007 01:32 AM

Okay, it's not just cutting off code. It's cutting off multiple selection fields if they have a lot of text in them. I just tried a long sentence 10 times and it cut the sentence down to two and chopped the third. What can I do to fix that? (Other then putting all my relevant images in a shorter directory?)

EDIT: Okay, I see why their being truncated now.

EDIT: Quick question. Is there any way to move the radio buttons and check boxes to the other side of their text? The way it is now, it aligns the text smack dab against the text for the next field, making it look like it belongs with something else. I've already accidentally selected the wrong field several times during testing, and I'd already told myself before installing not to do that. I can imagine this being done often by our users, and if if radio buttons are checked accidentally, there's no way to deselect them when you go to edit (barring creating an N/A field, which I'd rather not have). I think if you switch sides, you'll get the formatting like what you have with radio buttons beside the post icons. Just a guess, but I think vB is styled to have the radio and check fields to the right of it's text/icon, judging from the large spacing it puts to the close spacing it puts to the right of those fields and the huge gap it puts on the left. (It's also easy to confuse folks, when the spacing is exactly the same on the post icons below, but the alignment is different.)

There is no support for this in the hack. It would require a further modification. I could be persuaded ($:)) to do this. PM me if interested.

*installed*, works fine here with vbulletin 3.6.7. Thanks gio~logist.

It would be awesome to have the feature bchertov managed, to have a calendar popping up where you choose the date.

i've vbulletin 3.6.8 ... its done for this hack? i love it!

TJFweb 11-12-2007 11:17 AM

Is it possible to get drop down filter boxes on the forumdisplay?

Is this a premium feature?

Thanks.

Gio, if your mod includes the ability to search / filter threadfields and make them required, then I would love to see your mod!

Searching is not included, but required is.

TJFweb 11-16-2007 06:30 AM

That's a shame.

I was hoping to be able to use this mod to be able to categorise posts. For such application, a search or filter function would be essential.

Ideally I guess I need something halfway between what the Premium version supposedly offers and what your mod offers.

Will this mod ever be updated again? I would like to buy the Premium version but NEED required fields. I would also love to have a filter or search function on the forumdisplay.

Hey guys,

thanks for that nice hack! :) I am able to create a new thread with setting the extra thread fields and the thread creates without any errors. But as soon as I am saving the edited extra thread fields, it displays an error on the vbulletin redirection after editiing:
Quote:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /home/xxx/www/forum/postings.php(1467) : eval()'d code on line 49
The thread itself gets updated, but not the extra fields.

Any help on this? I am using vb 3.6.8 Patch Level 2

Sorry, this hasnt been caused by this plugin. False alert. :p

Does this hack create a new db field for each field in the thread table? So when you edit a thread you can change the values independantly? (That's what I'm looking for).

If so - fantastic!! Might be an idea to be able to set a charcter limit for fields too?

Does this hack have an adverse effect on the server? (does it add much load? Everything indexed ok in the db?)

Would it be easy enough to call any of the thread fields data in a custom script? (via a simple mysql query)

If you port this hack to 3.7 and it can do the above I will definitely donate!

(ps, as this is a lite version is there a pro version out there? I don't mind paying for it).

StreetTriple 01-18-2008 03:47 PM

hi,
Can i edit the threadfields in post after the post are been created?

momo2 01-28-2008 01:23 PM

You have to edit the thread to get to the field options, not the first post.

I have reworked with this hack to allow editing the thread fields by editing the first message (by posting user or admin) along with several other additional features. This is working on my board (www.waccobb.net see this forum) I don't have time to gather all the pieces to post it. Someone has begun to help me with this so I'm hoping to post it at vb.org soon. S/he is a novice programmer and could probably use some help.

And while I am at it, I am looking for a journeyman programmer to join my team. I have excellent interface ideas along with how they might would work. I wrote an award winning product in the FoxPro world (ask your Dad) . It could evolve into spinning off an excellent commercial product. Fabulous opportunity for half-to-full time paid VBulletin development work. Please PM if interested!

To those interested in this mod, check out the vBFengine mod. Looks quite promising although it is still new so I'm sure there will be some kinks along the way.

cookiepants 02-10-2008 05:46 AM

Thank you! I've been looking for a hack just like this. Good for SO many things!

Is there a way to allow a member to sort messages by one of the choices?

cookiepants 02-10-2008 05:49 AM

I've visited SiteResort.com but it looks like it's a parked domain?

It looks like the last mention of SiteResort in this thread was in February of 2007.

cookiepants 02-10-2008 06:39 PM

ah. Bummer. I was hoping it was ongoing. I was looking forward to the pro. Thanks!

I have hopes of using this hack as a basis of a new hack that uses a data dictionary to give you complete control over how new thread fields are used.

Key features would include:
  • Customized prompts
  • Validation
  • Search support
  • Sort support
  • Usergroup integration
  • Extensible (design in hooks for customizations)
I am looking for partners that can contribute either programming or funding to the effort. I think it would be well worth a pro (paid) version with good support and it would do well. It could easily generate a fair bit of paid add-on services to help users install and customize it for their own needs.

I was the lead designer/developer of a similar data driven reporting system for FoxPro (http://info.foxfirereporting.com/) . I would be happy to lead/coordinate this new effort and release all product rights to other team members. I just want to be able to use the product!

Please PM me if you are interested.

Hi there, I have already installed the hack and everything seems to work. Everything (text)shows in the forum but I do have a problem with the admin CP. When I have opened up a new thread field there is no possibility of editing or deleting it. What can I do?

My PHP was 5.2.5 SQL 5.0.45

Lott 02-15-2008 03:50 PM

Is there any plans to make the information captured in the form field searchable?

Has anyone figured out how to put the extra thread fields in the search results and the forum home page. They look great in the thread views of the forum, but I sure could use them in the search results too.

DieselTruck 03-06-2008 02:08 AM

I installed the Threads Prefix Mod..

But, this interfears with that..

Where I add:

Code:

$extrafields
in the Threadbit templateto the correct location, it throws the columns out of align and order. Here is the code with the the Threads Prefix Mod installed and template changed:

Code:

<if condition="$thread['pagenav']">$stylevar[dirmark]<span class="smallfont" style="white-space:nowrap">(<img class="inlineimg" src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/multipage.gif" alt="$vbphrase[multipage_thread]" border="0" /> $thread[pagenav]<if condition="$show[pagenavmore]"> ... <a href="showthread.php?$session[sessionurl]t=$thread[threadid]&amp;page=$thread[totalpages]$thread[highlight]">$vbphrase[last_page]</a></if>)</span></if>
                </div>
$extrafields

Any options to make these work together?

I am looking for a way to output individual extra field values in the postbit. Any code that can do that or does it require further modding, gio~logist?

Anyone try this on 3.7?

This is an excellent mod... i hope that we can use it for 3.7
