For two days the system worked fine.

Today it downloaded 3,000+ articles from one of the RSS feeds. OUCH! Talk about serious bandwidth sucking!

Can we limit the quantities as to how many to post?

Cebby 05-22-2006 01:38 PM

No problems with install. Great Hack!

*clicks install*

EDIT: OK, one problem - the ["] quote and ['] apostrophe garbage generated is a PITA, but other than that, great for my use. Any fixes for this yet?

MrDiaz 05-26-2006 04:04 PM

hi, the hack is amazing but I have a question.

When the bot post an article and I reply to it, my post appears first. Why so?

:(

Scrolls 05-26-2006 04:47 PM

i am having trouble getting the RSS feeds to update...and how do i set a bot to post threads in the forum of my choice? can someone please help with this, i will gladly give someone all the passwords to the proper areas of my admincp and server info so they could do this right quick (i have the news feed sources, i will provide the link and everything needed!)

webgroup 05-30-2006 04:55 PM

I'm only getting this in my rss posts:

Thread Title: MSN News h

News: h

h
Date: h

also the thread title has at the end the "h"

Any help?

Thanks!!!

Is this the only RSS Feed hack available for v3.5.4?

I happened to have the Articlebot installed but it never worked ever since I've installed it, but might be because it is compatible with only v.3.0.

What does it really matter, if you haven't tried it, why search for alternatives? :)

I use this Mod, and when you add in my Users can Post HTML Mod, it's perfect.

Kwak 05-31-2006 06:30 AM

The coder for this hack is away from vBulletin.org for awhile, leaving users hanging with questions and/or problems so I'm a little hesitant to install it.
But if all users had success installing and working with this hack, it would be okay then.

But if there are no alternative and not will be one for a long time, I might as well uninstall the old Articlebot hack and try this one out.

What are some RSS feeds you are using that us HTML? I'd be curious to see.

A few questions. I added the add on to this:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=108377

Is there a way to either:

1. Turn off the auto posting or;
2. Have the post show up better?

In the Thread Post RSS Construct I am using XLM, but that doesn't show up well on my forum. The links are broken. What is the best way to use the mod and have the RSS feeds post well.

subnet_rx 05-31-2006 04:31 PM

Anyone know what keeps a feed item from appearing twice?

I'm also getting the "Invalid URL To RSS Feed Given" error when adding any feed, regardless of where it originates from.

Since I can't get this to work, is there another mod that will do the same thin, or, if there a workaround or fix that some of you are using?

Thanks,

yeah would be nice to have some sort of translator functions, because some RSS are in different charset then forum charset...

stevenb7 06-08-2006 07:45 PM

I created a forum specifically for the feeds and set it to moderate new threads so i can review the news and only post news that is really interesting to my users. However the posts show up right away, what do i need to change so the post await moderation?

You need to change your cron job from checking the feed every minute, assuming that you are using the settings found in the setup instructions.

ACP > TASK MANAGER > Scheduled Task Manager

Edit RSS Feeds Update.

Change the minutes or hour. Depending on how you need it.

SirTalksalot 06-13-2006 06:38 PM

HI,

I love this already but I have a few formatting issues. First of all is there any way to ensure links are clickable and that they open in a seperate window, same as when a links is posted anywhere else?

EXAMPLE: http://www.productionforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=260

Secondly, I've got some formatting problems with some of the feeds coming through.

EXAMPLE:http://www.productionforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=182

Is there any way to tighten this up? Or will the feed providor have to sort it out?

Finally, I'm having to allow HTML in the forums I have the feeds in. Is there any way to limit it so only the account I'm using to post the feeds can use HTML?

Oh, another quick thing. Once I've clicked update feeds, it won't post the same messages again, even if I have deleted them. This makes it hard to test, is there a way round this?

Thank you in advance. :)

Freak0204 06-25-2006 04:57 AM

I get this error after trying to update the feed:

Code:

Fatal error: Only variables can be passed by reference in /home/post/public_html/forum/includes/class_ffrss.php on line 371
The line in question:

Code:

if (!empty($this->LastAdded))
Any suggestions?

briansol 06-29-2006 04:38 AM

anyone get this working with woot feeds?

it won't accept any parent config from
http://www.woot.com/salerss.aspx

COBRAws 07-04-2006 01:15 AM

Is there a way I can use a feed to grab data from and post it in the header?

I would like to set up a weather box in my header template. Does anybody know if this is possible?
Thank you.

Isn't RSS Functionality a stock feature of 3.6?

What does this Modification offer that the stock does not?

froop 07-24-2006 08:34 PM

Hi,

I have this problem:

I am wanting to create a feed for Google UK News with this:

feed://news.google.co.uk/?ned=uk&topic=n&output=rss

I have put this into the detect settings and also manually, both times I receive this message:

"While attempting to parse the document located at "feed://news.google.co.uk/?ned=uk&topic=n&output=rss" the system encountered the following error:
Invalid URL To RSS Feed Given

Please check settings related to this issue."

Could someone please either point out where I have gone wrong or suggest a valid URL?

Many Thanks.

vBulletin THEN DAYLIGHT 07-26-2006 07:20 PM

This is a really excellent hack. Saves me going to all the hassle of upgrading to 3.6! :D

I just have one question: Would the headlines still get posted in a read only forum?

rollo tamasi 07-27-2006 12:36 AM

does this work with 3.5.4 >?

peterska2 07-27-2006 12:38 AM

yes it does. I have it running on a 3.5.4 forum

soletrader 07-30-2006 11:08 PM

What does this mean?

Add the following scheduled task:
Title: RSS Feeds Update
Day of the Week: *
Day of the Month: *
Hour: *
Minute: 1 - - -
Log Entries: Up to you
Filename: ./includes/cron/cron_ffrss.php

Where do I go to fix this?

bandoftheweek 07-31-2006 02:46 AM

I have a question (I did skip thru the 37 pages so sorry if it was already answered). What if I have vbadvanced? How can I make the news be posted on the homepage?

soletrader 07-31-2006 02:56 AM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am trying to get a RSS news feed in my forum thread. This is the url:

http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...S/cnbcrss.aspx

I have no clue how to fill the:

Parent RSS Tag Name
Items RSS Tag Name
Thread Title RSS Tag Name
Thread Post RSS Construct

Can anyone help? Thank you

vBulletin THEN DAYLIGHT 07-31-2006 06:18 AM

The correct link to the feed is: http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...S/cnbcrss.aspx

Click on that, and you will be displayed source code by your browser:

And from that, I can gather:

Parent RSS Tag Name: channel
Items RSS Tag Name: item
Thread Title RSS Tag Name: title
Thread Post RSS Construct:
Code:

[b]Published:[/b] {XML[pubDate]}

{XML[description]} [url={XML[guid]}]Read More...[/url]

That should work. If you look at how I have obtained that info from the source, you should get how to do it in future.

Admin CP > Scheduled Tasks > Add New Scheduled Task

soletrader 07-31-2006 04:34 PM

How do you allows the RSS feed to post more than one line? As of now I did manage to get the feed but I am only receiving one line and then a "read more..." Also once I click on "read more" I get a http://array/ What did I do wrong?

Also is this legal?

Have the RSS Feed results targeted to one forum, then have your news or custom pages look to that forum for the information.

I'm doing that here:

www.furnitureresource.info

and

www.culinary-compliments.com
