<a href="http://www.wrestlecrazy.com/forum12-wwe-chat.html" target="_blank">http://www.wrestlecrazy.com/forum12-wwe-chat.html</a>

If you click on page 2 of 34.. page one reloads

dn lodge 12-10-2005 08:33 PM

If you would let me help you with the testing, I would really appreciate it. I have only www.DNLodge.com to put it on.

Here are some suggestions..

I've looked at the last 20 pages of posts in this thread. I saw you said that the rewriting of the last post is un-nessasary. But I think it is, mainly because of the SEO reasons.

The main problem i have using your mod right now is that google is indexing 2 pages for every one page i have in the forum. It is indexing the rewritten thread and the unrewritten thread. This is mainly because your mod isnt rewriting my similar threads and the last post column.

And BTW, I modified your code to make the forums view as dnlodge.com/forum-12.html . So I didnt lose the PR from my old rewrite script on phpbb after I upgraded. But is this making me not be able to rewrite the simialar threads?

-Brandon @ www.DNLodge.com

ps. If you need anything, like help, just give me a PM. I'm a master php and mysql coder, and could help in the thread since its become so popular. Let me know.. aim: daredevilbp or msn: neomania60@hotmail.com or PM or email: yourhostnow@gmail.com

Ok guys, what i'm going to do is because we have two sets of testers here, is set up a temporary forum for people who want to beta-test the latest version.

If anyone wants the latest version, for the time being, head on over to here:
http://www.teckreviews.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=15

The password is:
Code:

dcseobeta

dn lodge 12-10-2005 09:59 PM

YES!! Thank you so much for this! Downloaded, and installing.. i'll try to help as much as possible

dn lodge 12-10-2005 10:03 PM

Hm, I seem to be agetting a page cannot be found right now after refreshing. Whats up?

Dean C 12-10-2005 10:18 PM

Please report your bugs with this beta over at my forum for now. Trying to keep bugs in the two versions seperate :)

dn lodge 12-10-2005 10:29 PM

Oh that was for your site, not the mod, but its working now.

And it would be really cool if we could choose out own rewrites. Because I would prefer forum-xx.html instead PR was on that. I managed to convert it to that in the old mod, but this one is alot more complex, and I will probably mess something up. So I guess i'll have to let myself get reindexed by google. But thanks

Rick Sample 12-10-2005 11:00 PM

Their isn't any chance that this will work with 3.0 with some modifications would it? I know they have one for vb 3.0 from vbseo.com, but its like $150 bucks.

dn lodge 12-10-2005 11:04 PM

It is probably possible to integrate it into lower versions, but I would assume this version wouldent work. It may have to be rewritten for lower versions. But I dont think DC will have time for it.

dn lodge 12-11-2005 11:25 AM

DC, I dont have permissions to post in the beta forum.

Dean C 12-11-2005 12:39 PM

Are you logged in? I just checked the permissions and you should be able to post a thread there

Signed up, downloaded, will start poking around!

Just a question for the new version... If you have the showthread?=x versio indexed in google, will redirect get rid of the showthread indexing?? Because i dont like when i have the rewritten one and the showthread one both indexed. It drains the PR. This is the reason alot of people want you to rewrite the simialar and last post rewriten.

COsborne 12-11-2005 08:22 PM

another problem I couldnt work out was the redirect after a user posts. it uses the old style formatting.

Wouldn't it behoove one to just use robots.txt to bar them from member.php (which is what the search string is to display last post on a thread, right?) and whatever it is that brings up similar threads (I don't use them, prefer to keep server load to a minimum and queries as low as possible, even though it's not necessary for me.) I block search.php, memberlist.php, member.php, profile.php, and nearly everything else that I could come up with that didn't directly involve either a thread or the forum listing itself... Why dilute at all?

That's only referencing the similar and last post comments - the redirect comment is a very valid point though.

Don't worry about that. Like I have said on several occasions, this modification is not aimed at your users, but at the search engines :) Hence, a search engine never posts, so they won't have that URL.

COsborne 12-12-2005 02:26 AM

the problem though is that users copy the url after they post and then paste it into future posts in that site and others. I've seen it happen a number of times.

poprulz 12-14-2005 07:38 PM

i got a question. i have got "Google sitemap for the vB Archives. Redirect human and robots." by lierduh installed. will this conflict the URL rewrite extension?
I am running VB3.5.0.

Yes but the old URLs are redirected to the new ones. It'd add a very large overhead to rewrite random thread URLs within threads as a) we don't have access to the thread titles, and b) we'd have to access the thread cache or run a query to get the thread titles for every thread URL in the thread.

This is an un-necessary overhead in my opinion.

Yes it will conflict so don't use it for now. I may integrate a sitemap generator with this modification soon :)

Rick Sample 12-17-2005 10:04 AM

Hi Dean, will this work with the GARS (Geek Article System)? http://www.thevbgeek.com/forumdisplay.php?f=41

We were debating on it a little in this thread: http://www.thevbgeek.com/showthread.php?p=3935#post3935 What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

Would another query really be that bad? I'm not sure what sort of query caching vbulletin has integrated but it wouldn't be hard at all to cache thread titles.

  1. It'd add a big overhead on large sites, and at the moment this modification is extremely scalable and inefficient. I don't want to sacrifice that.
  2. Again, I'm not sure offhand if vB has a threadcache, but even building one would be a very large task and inefficient on large boards

Integrated sitemap generator would be great! Using the vBSEO sitemap version at the moment, but obviously it doesn't pick up the urls created using this plugin. :)

Mudvayne 12-20-2005 12:00 AM

?????????
it conflict with vbseo sitemap generator?

Dean C 12-20-2005 01:40 PM

Shuvo, I won't be changing the copyright sorry. cd1986, do not submit a sitemap with vBseo's if the URLs are conflicting, as you'll be submitting URLs which will be redirected soon.

cd1986 12-20-2005 04:17 PM

Sorry, i meant that it just picks up the normal (unchanged) urls - it doesn't conflict as such, the sitemap is generated as though there was no url re-write plugin.

Rick Sample 12-23-2005 03:49 PM

Hi dean, I'm having issues with the install. After the install on 3.5.2, when clicking on any forum, any post, any member, etc it is displaying a page cannot be displayed message.
I also know that our host has mod rewright on because we used to run OScommerce as our shopping car system. They released a hack on their site to re wright URLS and this is what we had to put in our .htaccess file (This is no longer their since we moved to a better software):

PHP Code:

Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase
/

RewriteRule ^(.*)-p-(.*).htmlproduct_info.php?products_id=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-c-(.*).htmlindex.php?cPath=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-m-(.*).htmlindex.php?manufacturers_id=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-pi-(.*).htmlpopup_image.php?pID=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-t-(.*).htmlarticles.php?tPath=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-a-(.*).htmlarticle_info.php?articles_id=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-pr-(.*).htmlproduct_reviews.php?products_id=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-pri-(.*).htmlproduct_reviews_info.php?products_id=$2&%{QUERY_STRING}
RewriteRule ^(.*)-i-(.*).htmlinformation.php?info_id=$2&%{QUERY_STRING

This worked with OScommerce, so I would imagine if our host didn't have mod rewright installed, OScommerce wouldn't have worked. Do you have any solutions?

THanks!

Dean C 12-24-2005 11:42 AM

Hey Rick, I'm not sure why it would give you a 404 message if mod_rewrite is enabled. Put this is in a .htaccess file in your forums directory and go to http://www.muscle-mustangs.com/forums/deantest.html

Code:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^deantest\.html$ showthread.php?t=6191 [L]

It should load t=6191 :)

Thanks Dean that worked like a charm and I installed the mod just fine! The reason I couldn't get the hack to work before was because I was putting the .htaccess in my root directory instead of the forum directory!

Thanks again for the hard work!

Rick Sample 12-24-2005 07:07 PM

I do have two more questions. When you click on the thread in the last post column, it will still take you to the showthread.php version.

Also when viewing whos online, it's showing the guest as "viewing forum" or "viewing thread" it doesn't give the exact thread or location with link. Is their an easy fix to this?

THanks Again!
