Great mod! Installed and nominated! :)
Is it possible to tweak the public socialforums so that they stay visible to all, but that only members of the individual socialgroups see the "unread posts" sign when there's any new posts there? (that is, that the socialforums you are not a member of stay marked "read"?) That way non-members don't have to press the "mark read" button for all the forums they are not a member of, or actually read all the posts, like those of us with a touch of OCD might feel compelled to! (yes, ignoring forums marked "unread" is actually quite hard!) Cheers, Sverre. |
So, if a group has permission to create a forum, and has the required number of members, what else could stop them from creating? I don't see a link as an admin, and my group creators don't either that have 75 members. When you say check parent forum, how would that stop the forum from being created (assuming it exists)?
Edit: Somehow, this solved itself. |
Ok I installed the mod works great!! My question is when the forum is made it seem to place it at the top in my announcement forum. Let say I create a main forum called Social Forums is it possible when someone makes a social forum it would always be placed under the heading I want it to be placed? Is it possible to write this in the next update? The other thing if you delete the group the admin need to manualy remove the forum..

How do i uninstall this mod ?

I just found a SERIOUS bug in the mod.
Private forums are viewable trough the archives, along with all the topics and posts in that forum. I double-checked my permissions just to be sure, and they were all good. Forum isn't visible in the normal listing, but it is in the archives. |
Whoops! You're right.

However, just so as not to alarm anyone, it is only private forums that relate to Social groups that are affected. If you have something like a private moderators forum, as long as it isn't related to Social Groups then that is NOT affected by this. |
Yes, should have made that more clear. Actually noticed it while I was browsing my forums with my PDA, and I could see the private forums even without logging in.
|
I'm having a problem with this locking out admins and global mods from the forums if they are not part of the group. I went in and set up the forum permissions so that we could see it, and I still can't get in.

That was an answer to VinnyS, sorry for not answering your question.
As for your question: No, not possible. If a users see a forum, he should see also threads. But if the users can see a thread, he has this also in new posts. That's a limitation in vBulletin. |
Okay, thanks for the reply!

Usergroups -> Manage Usergroups
Make sure that you have installed all the files (not just the product file). One of them adds additional fields to the usergroups permissions. |
I'll bet this question gets asked alot over the next few hours/days :)
It seems that a new announcement from the VB dev team regarding VB 3.8 has come out: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1604038 Part of the announcement states that they are going to add social forums, as usual details are fairly sketchy. Anyway the question is, when further details are announced would this mod be "decomissioned"? |
It's just adding threads, not forums. So I think I will maintain this also with vB 3.8
|
Problem: I can't see the "create forum" link in the group.
I installed it like the readme file says. The group has 8 members, 5 are needed to create forums. The usergroup "registered users" has permission to create forums. Did I forget something??? |
can the group the member who joined, displayed on postbit?

This is going to be standard in 3.8/4?! Hopefully vb don't ruin the great work done here by Phalynx and the upgrading works.

Could you please check the code if the setting is properly integrated? Thanks. |

Unless there is going to be some sort of integration with "Today's Posts" and "New Posts" then the new Social Group Threads is going to be useless, at least on my site, as almost everyone navigates with getdaily and getnew. Thus this mod will still be needed. |
better see and check it out which one is more usable. :)

Hello ,
i try to visit "group.php"in my forum but it seems that i don't have permission to visit the page ?! where can i find that permission to change it . Thank you |
I searched this thread but didnt see an answer. My issue is that i have some social forums that people post a lot of new threads in. My community in general does not want to see this in new posts. I have turned off to index posts for this forum but they are still showing up in the new posts list. I have a mod to ignore certains forums but since the forum is private it doesn't list in the ignore forums list. stuck between a rock and a hard place ugh
*i've even tried this on my search query do=getnew&exclude=293,294,305 and still they show up! |
Do posts made on the social forums also count up for the total post count and member post count ?
|
Dude this is amazing very nice job!
|
Any word on when the archive security issue might be addressed? Its not a major concern, but those pages are being indexed by search engines.
|
Demo?
