if you open the actual plugin with a text editor (i use notepad2) press CTRL+F and search for this text :

Code:

The administrators want you to view a thread before you continue to browse the forum.
you can now replace this with what you wish it to say, then press save and import the product again, remember to select overwrite :-)

ANd also, I want to set it to be SIte wide on my forum, but I want it to show the "YOu must read this thread first message" ALL the time and EVRYTIME a user signs in to my forum. Right now it works, but only the first a user logs in do they see the message. After they log out and back in they dont see the message anymore and I would like them to, and also for this to happen to ALL usergroups....

hope that question makes sense@!

Tahnks in advance for any info@! I luv this mod....installed clicked!

If a user has to view more then one thread, which one to do first.

No way to do that request though.

We have a thread where our rules are posted, and I'd like to force new members to have to read the rules first.
Thanks in advance!

No.

Yes, it's in your ACP under:

Threads & Posts, then click Force Read Thread, then click Add New Thread > then get the ID of the thread (numbers) you've created, and type it into the ThreadID box, and save!

Hope that helps!;)

This did, sorry for my late reaction, didnt know it was moved to the ACP :erm:

Thx m8!

Seems to work fine ... :D

Are you just putting in the threadID or the whole URL?

bailradio 04-24-2008 03:59 PM

Just the Topid ID for example

http://www.url.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=118#post118

I'm just putting 118?

That is a postID. You need to get the threadID would be t=XXXX

bailradio 04-24-2008 05:30 PM

Thanks, Bit of a thick moment then

FishMRC 04-24-2008 06:39 PM

Installed last night and works better than the other two hacks installed.

Delete it in the ACP options or change the end date back.

JUst tried that - but got this error ..

I have no problems and i have vb3.7.0 rc4. This error can only be in the forum anyways. Not in the ACP.

Second Skin Rep 04-26-2008 05:28 PM

This hack is great but it is forcing some mebers to read the thread over and over again.
I thought that once they read the thread they were done.
These guys have to re read the threads every time they go to a new forum..

<else />
there are no new posts
</if>

Something like that but for this mod

i want to do the same type of thing just have things seen or hidden depending on if the person already read the tread

cant be too hard to understand

sdavis2702 05-05-2008 10:56 AM

Firstly, rude tone not appreciated. Your first explanation was hard to understand without an example (given in your second post). Remember that we are here to try and help, so being nice gets you a lot further than insults.

I believe you're asking for something outside of the scope of this modification. Perhaps a few more examples of what you'd like it to accomplish would help us understand what you're getting at.

As it stands now, you choose the areas the person can view without being forced to read the thread. If they enter an area (or forum) of your choosing, they will be forced to read the thread to continue.

If I'm understanding it correctly, you want people to be able to access certain areas, but sections of templates will be hidden until they read the thread (i.e. they can enter their PM box, but not be able to view PM content until they read a thread)?

Depending on your implementation, it simply might be better to force people to read the thread upon entering the PM area (in the example above) instead of trying to get fancy by allowing limited access.

So is he trying to see if you can block access to certain content until a thread is read, instead of blocking the whole site until a thread is read?

superb hack thanks very much i love it.

kira 05-07-2008 04:16 PM

This is a great idea for a mod, thank you! Unfortunately I'm running into the problem where people are being forced to read a thread even though they've already read it. Where is the option to show people this notice only once?

Elenna 05-07-2008 05:28 PM

Sorry, I haven't seen if it is possible to 'fix' this... if a member is in the middle of submitting a new post when you mark a thread as a Forced Read one, if they preview their post it will force them to read the thread.

To go along with that, if someone Submits a new post at that time, they are forced to read the thread and their post is not actually submitted.

I preferred the "areas" instead of forums (i.e. UserCP, Index, etc).

You can globally turn it off for the newreply and newthread pages.
