RackChat 03-13-2005 06:50 PM

I installed it on my boards(www.rackchat.com) about an hour ago. I tried to limit the number of articles to be posted by adding variables in the URL but when I run the task it doesn't add anything to the forum, yet I don't get any errors. When I remove those variables everything works. I haven't read through all 33 pages so it might have been suggested before. Anyway adding another option to limit the quantity of threads it starts or a way to limit the articles it fetches would be a great feature.

Great hack though, well done!

I'm running 3.0.3. It installed okay and added new threads when it installed, but hasn't added any more since. How do I fix it?

Thanks

I'm getting this same error on 1.26, might be something to look into.

venomx 03-29-2005 04:45 AM

I tested the default one that comes with VB. The validater gave one error. I was going to install this one but from what I read it also has problems?

wacodep 04-01-2005 05:18 PM

Okay, why does THIS feed work fine using the v1.26 hack:
http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/topstories

But this one does NOT?

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know how to fix this to work with php 5?

Blootix 04-01-2005 08:40 PM

No screenshots? Anybody has a live demo?

cashpath 04-01-2005 08:52 PM

To answer my own stupid question if you have PHP 5 add this to both RSS files...

Quote:

$phrasegroups = array();

// get special data templates from the datastore
$specialtemplates = array();

// pre-cache templates used by all actions
$globaltemplates = array();

// pre-cache templates used by specific actions
$actiontemplates = array();
Of course I did that and the feeds still don't produce anything.. but at least I don't get an error

cashpath 04-02-2005 04:10 AM

Well unfortunately I couldn't get this to work, so... guess I won't use it..

kevinrstruck 04-10-2005 05:13 AM

Works like a charm for me. No issues at all. Installed in about 5-10 minutes.

So far so good.

I have found my problem with this error

Warning: file(): URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /includes/RSS/rss_update.php on line 39

Warning: file(http://news.yahoo.com/rss/): failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in /includes/RSS/rss_update.php on line 39

Warning: implode(): Bad arguments. in /includes/RSS/rss_update.php on line 39

How can I get by this any ideas
I tried all the official working news feeds but same answer everytime

Zachariah 04-19-2005 12:36 AM

my problems: 5 feeds no mater the order in the DB only the 1st feed posts.
Any one of the feeds work, but it will not post more than 1 in the bot list.

Thoughts ?

RichieBoy67 04-20-2005 04:43 AM

I have done this install a few times and never had a problem... this time I am getting the following

Warning: main(class.RSS.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/www/ureside/forums/includes/RSS/rss_update.php on line 28

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required 'class.RSS.php' (include_path='') in /home/www/ureside/forums/includes/RSS/rss_update.php on line 28

I have gone over my edits and do not see a problem... Is there something I have to edit in the update file???

I fixed it.... I had to go into the RSS/rss_updae.php and edit the path to the class.RSS.php file.... If somebody else has this problem I hope this helps :)

Benj 04-20-2005 09:06 AM

how would i set up the cron as a vbulletin sceduled task my host doesnt support cron job coz there crap :D

libertate 04-21-2005 02:29 AM

Excellent job. This fixed one of my problems. Thank you!

Some suggestions for version 1.27... :squareeyed:

* The management tasks[Add a Bot], [Modify Bots], [Delete Bots], [Delete All News] shouldn't it be a submenu item of RSS NewsFeed on the navigation frame, instead on a single page?

* When [Delete Bots] is selected, the name is not displayed only the ID. Can the name be added?

* A title for the feed would be nice. So instead of some obscure URL, a standard source would descibes it. i.e. "Medical News" instead of "http://blahblah.blah/~blah.rss"

* Would it be possible to display a list instead of individually managing the RSS feeds?
i.e.
1. [ Source(text)] [Title(text)] [User (text)] [Enabled (Radio)] [Delete (Radio)]
2. [ Source(text)] [Title(text)] [User (text)] [Enabled (Radio)] [Delete (Radio)]
It is very unlikely that someone whould have a 25+ feed... and if they do there is always the scroll bar... :nervous:

* Although I understand the convenience on deleting all fetched news, I don't think you need (should ) to have this option. The pruning of posts by user is already available.

* Can you add additional functionality such that are available in "fps_external " are available? That would be a PERFECT combination!

Again, thank you for a job well done.

RichieBoy67 04-24-2005 03:11 AM

I do not want the bot listing in the stats.... I cannot remember how to do this at this hour... can anyone help please???

Is there a way to do this???? I do not want the bots showing up in post count or anywhere else.....

Thanks

Slapyo 04-28-2005 02:25 PM

sorry, i don't have time to support this hack anymore. however, i don't want to leave you guys hanging.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=67078

check out the Article Bot. it's like my script but with alot more options and as far as i know it is currently being supported.

NewOrder 05-14-2005 10:42 PM

im getting the follwing

rss.php

Warning: main(./includes/cron/rss.php..php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /admincp/cronadmin.php on line 56

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required './includes/cron/rss.php..php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home2/tek/public_html/admincp/cronadmin.php on line 56

Slapyo 05-15-2005 02:08 AM

you have the wrong file in the cron area. it is looking for this file:

rss.php..php

that's not the name of the file. edit it so it only ends with .php

thuffner 05-15-2005 03:18 PM

Installed this and got the following error when pointing my browser to the rss.php file:

Quote:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: log_cron_action() in /www/t/thuffner/htdocs/board/rss.php on line 7

popowich 08-05-2005 02:55 PM

Hello,

I have troubles with Article Bot and duplicate threads being created.

Does this hack work about the same way? Is it more intelligent? (fewer duplicate posts)

Thanks!

Is there anyway you can specify a Post Icon per feed?

floridaideal 08-28-2005 06:48 AM

Hello all

I am running VB3.08 and installed this hack no problem, everything went smoothly but soon as I try run the rss.php file I get this error!

rss.php

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/virtual/site58/fst/var/www/html/forum/includes/functions_newpost.php on line 409

I retried with a clean functions_newpost.php file but it came up with the exact same results, has anyone managed to install this on the latest version of vb and got past this error?

Thank you

Stu

Gold-Games 08-28-2005 08:18 AM

Hello,

I installed the Modified RSS News Feed Hack, but when running a scheduled task following error message occurs:

PHP Code:

Warningmain() [function.main]: Unable to access class.RSS.php in /home/www/htdocs/gold-games.com/forum/includes/RSS/rss_update.php on line 28

main() [function.main]: Failed opening required 'class.RSS.php' (include_path=''in /home/www/htdocs/gold-games.com/forum/includes/RSS/rss_update.php on line 28

Has anyone an idea how to fix the problem?

Does this script correctly parse images in feeds to (img) vB code tags? I know the layout can't always match the original, but still displaying them would be nice.

Also, does the script correctly parse <enclosure> tags into (url) vB code tags? This is most often used for Podcasts.

webfreak 09-06-2005 10:37 PM

I'm new to vB and this is the first hack I tried installing. However, when I click the link in the Admin CP, I get a 404 page not found error. Any ideas?

Fixed. Had it in the wrong directory.

nymyth 09-07-2005 05:25 PM

Is it possible to make the feed into one thread. What I mean is if im using a rss feed from yahoo music, i want it so that when the bot runs and pulls the information it puts it all into one thread as opposed to multiple threads.....

If this is not possible, can I at least limit the number of threads it will start up.

Thanks.

Peace

MRGTB 09-24-2005 01:13 AM

I just installed Wolfsteams version here. But can somebody tell me after reading his thread here. If he is saying that the board you use to post RSS News Feeds is suposed to have HTML enabled for members to use in there posts for it to work correctly: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....&postcount=139

manfred 09-28-2005 12:36 PM

I am a newbie to the forums and vBulletin, I installed the hack but I get the following error on signature and when I try to run the cron job now:

PHP Code:

Parse errorparse errorunexpected T_ELSE in /home3/****/public_html/forums/includes/functions_newpost.php on line 429

Can anyone help me?

manfred 09-28-2005 03:10 PM

Nevermind I got it...:)

SHD Born2Fight 11-28-2005 10:56 PM

The hack is working but I get a error if I run the scheduled task manager manually:

Quote:

Warning: array_merge() [function.array-merge]: Argument #1 is not an array in /global.php on line 331

Warning: in_array() [function.in-array]: Wrong datatype for second argument in /includes/functions.php on line 2292

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /includes/functions.php on line 2297
Can someone help please ?

XrayHead 12-04-2005 08:42 AM

Ok Sorry to sound thick! But how do I add a bot..... :ermm:

Can someone give me a working example I can add and run please.

Dose the URL have to have .xml at the end of it?

Xrayhead

EDIT:

Ok I have a feed ending in .xml and I have tested it with (FreeReader).

I have added the bot (See PNG) to a new forum that I created and when I run the cron all I get is the following (see cron_run.png).

I have attached a capture of a working cron as well.

Questions,
I am running this on a windows box with PHP Ver 4.3.9 and installed the rss_bot_1[1].26a

Do I have to open a port on the router or have any specific settings in my apache/php configuration?

XrayHead 12-04-2005 08:51 AM

Sorry me beeing a mupet, gave the bot the same user ID as the forum ID (19)

:nervous: And I have no user ID of 19 on my test board..... he he

It works now!!

Anyone got any Paintball news feeds they can share with me??

Great hack.. Thanks

One question?

Should I see the pictures in the forum? I have html enabled

I ask because if I view a new message with FreeReader I see the pictures but when I look at the same message on the forum that the bot has posted I see none :ermm:

GoTTi 12-31-2005 01:46 PM

i have the sceduled tasks setup right i guess and its not working. this hack only grabbed a rss feed one time and wont do it again. ideas?

MRGTB 01-03-2006 08:59 PM

Great hack this, but I have spotted a slight problem with the "Archive" version of threads.

Even with the replace "{br} with <br />" carried out as explained in the instructions during the installation. The Archive version of threads still doesn't work right like this quote shows taken from one of the RSS Feeds in the archive section. I even tried changing to BBC News Feeds and got the same issue with "{br}" being inserted into the Archives and not working right.

Here is a RSS Thread taken from my archives to show what I mean
