From what I've been able to tell, it's a bug in how vBAdvanced works. There's sadly nothing I've been able to do about this in my testing thus far :(

So, I have to remove one of those products. I am so confused.

Yaung Sein 07-01-2010 01:42 PM

I have been received support reply from vBadvanced they said it is cause of DBTech vBShout (Lite). And now you said it is cause of vBadvanced. I don't know what should I do. :(

silverfox_uw 07-01-2010 02:03 PM

Instance Management? Wheres that? I cant see it in the AdminPC

Winter Sonata 07-01-2010 02:11 PM

Did they go into more detail than just say that it's because of vBShout?

The menu in the AdminCP is controlled by administrator permissions.

If you do not grant yourself the permission "Can Administer vBShout" you will be unable to access the menu. This is for security reasons, in case you don't want certain admins to administer the Shoutbox.

If you perform the config.php edit as detailed in the post Winter Sonata linked to (thanks :D), you will override the permissions check and enable you to see the vBShout menu item without needing to be granted the aforementioned permission :)

silverfox_uw 07-01-2010 02:48 PM

Ok ive managed to access the menu but how do i add an instance permission? thanks for the help btw :)

Really like the apps tho, i think that you guys should make your own stylevars for us to playwith ! I have totally changed my templates for my site and i can't start to replace some backgrounds only for the shoutbox :(
Missing a bit on this side maybe but in general, fantastic work! Might go for PRO version soon ;)
Also, i think the write area should have the possibility to be place either on top or on the bottom part of the box and that the active users side container should also be on a drop down tab system therefor giving more space to the text window !
Thanks ;)

dbtech_vbshout_colours.css has the CSS classes you're looking for :)
We cannot make our own stylevars as that would mean it only looks good on the default skin, and we get drenched in support requests.

Shout area location change is a Pro feature. We're looking into the other feature tho :)

Loading...
That is how my shoutbox (text window) looks like :(

No idea what the hell is wrong. Worked for a while and suddenly stopped.

DragonByte Tech 07-03-2010 09:44 PM

Did you try reloading the window?
That error happens when you lose internet connection for a period of time so vBulletin cannot refresh the security token, or you logged out / logged in with another tab in your browser.

Fillip

moskita 07-03-2010 10:18 PM

Yeah... it's on my local dev machine. I removed cache and history, tried different browsers but didn't work.

robbiefritz 07-04-2010 09:54 PM

Can I set the shout box to not visible for unregistered members?

DragonByte Tech 07-04-2010 10:00 PM

Yes you can. Instance Management -> Edit Permissions.

Fillip

robbiefritz 07-04-2010 10:05 PM

Fantastic. Thank you.

It will hopefully be released Friday 9th July :)

11th july, Any update on it please . as i am running the forum without shoutbox its pretty boring .

DragonByte Tech 07-11-2010 08:31 PM

We had to postpone it due to the upcoming release of the shop mod, but it's not been forgotten.
I have no exact date atm, but hopefully some time the following week :)

Khan_ 07-13-2010 02:49 AM

Hope this release will fix the load issues and run smooth as inferno vbshout .

I know this is probably a really stupid question, but is there some way I can change the color of the "Active Users" button and the box where you input the text? (please see attachment)

I'm really loving this shoutbox, but the white areas are too bright for my theme ;__;

Thanks so much for this awesome shoutbox, and for taking the time to read this ^_^

DragonByte Tech 07-13-2010 06:55 PM

I believe it's input_focus_background or something like that, a stylevar.

Tab colour can be changed in dbtech_vbshout:colours.css

Thank you so much!! :D

Gold Phan7om 07-17-2010 01:44 PM

The shoutbox is at top of every page? How do you only have it on main page?

DragonByte Tech 07-17-2010 02:14 PM

By default it's only on top of the index.

Go to Instance Management -> Edit -> change the relevant setting to have "index" for script name only, and it'll only show up on the forum home.

Gold Phan7om 07-17-2010 02:22 PM

Fixed thanks :)

DragonByte Tech 07-22-2010 06:32 PM

After a couple days simmering in Beta sauce over a low flame, vBShout v5.3.0 has now been released.
This is purely a performance update, and brings changes in the way BBCode is handled and also how the AOP system functions.

BBCode will now parse when -saving- shouts instead of when -fetching- them, greatly reducing the strain on your server from having to parse 20 (or however many shouts you display) every load.

The AOP system will now be up to 80% faster* in checking whether new shouts have been posted and will also use a greatly diminished amount of resources in this check.

Furthermore, caching on Chat Rooms have been improved, eliminating 1-3 queries (depending on context) from each request.

* Based on a comparison of AOP fetch times on 5.2.3 and 5.3.0 on DBTech's server and my development computer.
Lowest AOP fetch time recorded: 26ms (5.3.0) vs 1.0s (5.2.3)
Highest AOP fetch time recorded: 224ms (5.3.0) vs 1.45s (5.2.3)
Your mileage may vary. This is in no way, shape or form a guarantee that your server load will go down by 80%.

Footman 07-22-2010 07:03 PM

Excellent! Thanks guys :)

Footman 07-23-2010 12:08 PM

a simple question....

What's the time frame for the shouts to remain showing in the shout box if it doesn't scroll off... if any?

DragonByte Tech 07-23-2010 12:52 PM

No time frame, it's the last X shouts :)
The Pro version lets you auto-delete shouts after x amount of time.

Fillip

Footman 07-23-2010 03:32 PM

Thanks Fillip.

One more question...

For some reason I'm not hearing a tone when a shout is posted and I've selected the pop.mp3 file selected for all 3 instances. I must be missing something...

hardboiled 07-26-2010 12:47 AM

New version installed, works fine, very nice update.

Gold Phan7om 07-26-2010 07:10 AM

Every now and again i get this message: Error: Invalid response from server:

DragonByte Tech 07-28-2010 02:11 PM

Can you explain more about what you were doing when it appeared?

I just talk. it posts it says that message and puts the text into typing box.

DragonByte Tech 07-28-2010 06:35 PM

Strange, that would only happen when the browser didn't get any form of response from the browser, not even an error.

Do other members of your forum also report this?

Fillip

Gold Phan7om 07-28-2010 06:41 PM

Yes. everyone on the forums gets this every now and again.

DragonByte Tech 07-28-2010 08:55 PM

Gimme your forum link and Ill check it out when I have time :)
