I've downloaded the package, checked the product, and it doesn't contain the Italian text.

Probably you did install also the Italian language package, although the help specifies when it should be installed: on Italian boards only. Most probably you will have to uninstall the Rotating Banners Product and install again to get rid of the unwanted text.

Freaking awesome that this works in vb4. I had disabled it assuming it didn't work and decided to enable it just to see. Much to my surprise it works perfectly in vb4 without any modifications necessary. I actually came here to link this thread to someone else and saw you confirmed the same already about vb4.

This is definitely one of the top 5 mods for Vbulletin.

y2ksw, will you be officially releasing this for vb 4.x??

I would like that. The current version is definitely not working for me with 4.01.

Not before version 4.1.x which was announced for great changes in the admin panel to happen. Since it does work in 4.0.0 for now and 3500+ bugs are waiting yet to get fixed, I have really no hurry to do a major change which maybe has to be changed again later.

Once the admin panel changes have finished, this product will be upgraded, in the hope to maintain the compatibility for the large vBulletin version range it still has: from 3.6.5 to 4.0.0

I will continue this product until me or vBulletin dies :p

4.01 seems to have plenty new bugs, but I haven't tried yet and officially I don't know ...

Please try this: go to the options and change the placeholder to:

@vbbanners:%d@

Then, make sure you have a working banner (position 0) globally enabled and place:

@vbbanners:0@

into a normal post and save (without preview). If the banner works, it must show up. If it does, in version 4.0.1 the pages render differently and maybe HTML comments are stripped off just before printing on screen. If it doesn't show, something has gone lost, but probably will turn back working with 4.0.2

djbaxter 01-23-2010 12:49 AM

Currently, in options it says:

PHP Code:

<!--@vbbanners:%d@-->

Are you saying to replace that with just

PHP Code:

@vbbanners:%d

In any case, it doesn't matter - I tried both ways and nothing shows up in the posts except the text @vbbanners:0@

Ok, it means from 4.0.0 to 4.0.1 the hook global_complete ceased to work.

Is there any reason to expect this to change in 4.02, though?

Added: that hook still exists and is working for other products I have installed.

I will not touch the product until 4.1.x, since vbulletin 4.0 has been published before it was truly ready to use, IMO. If I would start fixing now, it would become a nightmare to maintain. Sorry about this.

djbaxter 01-23-2010 02:41 PM

I'm sorry to hear that. Since they haven't even released 4.02 yet, that basically means 4.x users are abandoned.

I'll keep playing with it to see if I can get it working. Otherwise, no doubt someone else will come up with a 4.x banner rotator sooner than 4.1...

Well, the good news is, it works in 4.0.1, too. I've tried it right now on a fresh installation 4.0.0 and upgraded to 4.0.1 :)

Let us rewind and see what else may have caused the problem ...

I upgraded from 3.84 PL2 to 4.01 How do we do that? I disabled all add-ons before upgrading and then disabled the hook system. After the upgrade, tuirned the hooks back on and re-enabled the add-ons one by one, checking for error in between. For any add-on that produce an error, I uninstalled it.

This add-on does not result in any errors. I just doesn'r result in any banners either.

If it helps to diagnose, I cannot get anything to display in the "before quick reply" location even using vBulletin's own manually insert ads templates. I've been assuming that's a still unfixed bug in 4.01 (there are a LOT of those).

Yeah, first we have to make sure you show anything else of course, before to blame any plugin ... if you put an 'X' in an ad template and it does not show up, anything else won't either :)

I'm about to release 2.2.2, which adds some of the frequently asked features and which was fully tested on 4.0.1, too. The reason why it still works on 4.x is the fact it does not use any own variables within templates, and because I'm lucky enough to have chosen this road ;)

Nope.

I installed your new version using overwrite. No banners.

I completely ininstalled the add-on. Then re-installed it. Still no banners.

When I installed the newest version, two ACP menu itmes weren't phrases (see attachment).

I guess I neede to try to find another solution. Pity. This one worked well in 3.84.

I uploaded the new 2.2 and over wrote each existing file. Then uninstalled the current product and reinstalled the new 2.2 in english but still getting some other language on about 4 lines. Most are english though.

Nevermind, went through and reverted the phrases and everything is ok.

You didn't upgrade the files ;)

The XML for the menues is twice as large now, due to about 12 new entries. Probably also the other files are not upgraded.

Please check you are actually replacing the files on your server. Some FTP require to first delete and then upload the files in order to upgrade.

Videx 01-24-2010 10:34 PM

Confirmed, works great in 4.0.1. No template editing needed either. Just use the built in advertising system and paste e.g.
PHP Code:

<center><!--@vbbanners:0@--></center

in the box. I added one at the top and one at the bottom, rotating my ads.

My apologies. It wasn't your add-on; it was just me.

I can finally (and happily) confirm that it is indeed working in 4.01. I just needed to go back and read the instructions a little more carefully. :o

djbaxter 01-27-2010 01:03 AM

By the way, you should probably post this in the vB4 mods forum too.

No problem - things that happen. Your complaint forced me to try it on 4.0.1, and by the way I also added the pending suggestions.

Yes, I was wondering if it was possible to move the whole discussion to 4.x and leave a redirect here, since nothing has changed but vbulletin ... :)

I'm not sure exactly how things work here, but if it were me I'd start a new thread in the vBulletin 4 Add-ons forum with the initial post containing the latest version for download and most of the instructions in the OP here - also add a reference back to the 3.x version for the benefit of members. Otherwise, people looking for 4.x mods may never know that this exists.

Once you've done that, identify the specific threads here referencing 4.x and PM a moderator or admin to ask to have them moved or copied to that new 4.x thread.

Videx 01-27-2010 05:18 PM

Agreed, with 34 pages of discussion here you definitely want to start fresh for vb4. The problems will be different, and with the built-in advertising in vb4, the instructions will be different.

Oh well I've asked to move it all, and here we are. One big book with all the replies, but's and if's ... and it makes a better impression in the list ... sooo many replies and visits ... :)

Sure, here (banner just below the navbar): http://www.vbulletin.it/forums/forum.php

armthehomeless1 01-29-2010 09:02 AM

Got it working fine in 4.0.1 which is great! :)

I'm having a problem with 'header position 2' in the vB advertising configuration. The banner appears, but it's not hard up on the right side of the forum header.

Header position 1 is fine. It's hard left, but I don't want one there.

Anyone else had this and come up with a work around?

Hi,

I need some help placing the placeholders. I want to place two vertical banners to the right of the forum. How can I accomplish this, what template do I need to edit?

Running 3.8.4 p2.

y2ksw 01-30-2010 11:32 AM

Sorry guys, but I'm not good enough to give advice with HTML issues and in particular with vbulletin 4.x, which is yet in development.

This is a known bug in 4.01. The header banners are not working as they should.

This may be fixed in 4.02... or 4.03... or 4.04... inquire at vBulletin.com.

Yes. It was supposed to be a Gold release but it's not even close to that... maybe RC3 even after the 4.01 release. And it's clear there will still be a lot of bugs remaining even after 4,02.

Videx 01-30-2010 12:52 PM

Well, of course vb4 will be "in development" until vb5 is released. But the important thing to remember is that any work you do in vb3 is basically wasted now, because it is no longer in development.

Most people that have taken the time have found vb4 to be quite nice. Yes, there are bugs, but they're being addressed in a timely fashion.

I'm not slagging vB4 - it will eventually be a decent product. I'm merely stating the obvious: The developers boxed themselves into a corner with the time-limited price incentives for upgrading to the suite. Given that customers had only a limited time ro respond to the offer before it disappeared combined with the fact that those customers were essentially buying the promise of a product rather than one they could actually "touch and feel", vBulletin needed to release something before the end of 2009. The problem is that they really weren't ready to release it and to call 4.0 or even 4.01 a "Gold" release is an insult.

One consequence is that we are now in the position of creating our own work-arounds for bugs in 4.00 or 4.01 that may disappear or morph into an entirely different bug by 4.02 or 4.03.
