The only way for it to show up as a bullet'd list is for the CSS file to be missing or corrupt. Try and upload the .css file again and make sure you are pointing to it. If it still doesn't "work" .. please post me 2 links that I can check.. the first one is the direct link to the .css file and the second a link to your tabbed page so I can view the source and see if you are pointing to the CSS file correctly.

OsideRida06 06-30-2008 08:11 PM

I am just checking in to see if you have had any success yet on that problem I was having? With the space below the bottons in IE?

Do you know if there is any way I can set up the forum where IE users will go to one skin and FF users will go to another? Because I would love to release this to my users. Atleast the FF ones. I cannot do it for IE though. It looks to horrible for that.

Hopefully you will find that fix.

Well I tried that, and you are right. It fixed the problem in IE. But then this is what I got in FF.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

Any other ideas? There has to be something, I would think. Right?

Try surrounding it in the following conditional:
HTML Code:

<if condition="!is_browser('ie');"><br style="clear: left" /></if>

OsideRida06 06-30-2008 11:40 PM

Do you mean FF? Firefox is the one that needs that tab in order for it to work. I need to remove that code for it to work in IE.

So what would I change the 'ie' to in that code? ff?

You would use that conditional. It is checking to see if the browser is not IE.

OsideRida06 07-01-2008 12:02 AM

So if its not IE, then it will not use that command, right?

OsideRida06 07-01-2008 12:54 AM

Well here is the update. I tried to put this code in the template.

Quote:

<if condition="!is_browser('ie');"><br style="clear: left" /></if>
It gave an error. So I had to take out the ";" Which I assume was just inserted accidently.

I already had the website up and it did fix the problem. But I had the website already open. I closed IE and tried to load the website. Now with that code in there it does not load in IE.

Here is the code after I took the ; part out.

Quote:

<if condition="!is_browser('ie')"><br style="clear: left" /></if>
Is this right? because like I said now the forum will not load at all in IE. Well I assume its that skin. But it will not load in IE at all so I can not change the skin to find out.

Any other ideas on how I can fix this?

OsideRida06 07-01-2008 01:39 AM

King Kovifor, are you still there bro?

Anyone?

any one else notice the 1.5 version chewing up a lot of bandwidth? i assume it does that because it uses bandwidth by switching tabs alot?

a lot? Can you post your benchmarks so we can see them please? You do realize that 1.5 is AJAX right and its totally different than the first version (NON AJAX) .. everytime you click on a tab in the AJAX Version, its retrieving info, so ya, its going to use more than the first version.

Also, when you first install it, I am sure that everyone "over clicks" just to see it work lol .. once that phase wears off, they will just use it as intended ;)

Update: It seems the if code is working now for some reason. Before the forum would not open up in IE for some reason. It is now working fine though. So thanks for all the help guys. I will be marking this is as installed now. Thanks for the great hack.

did you edit the LI tags and include Cat IDs that pertain to your forum and not the "sample" ones that were used in the instructions?

G'day Bob - I know this has been done before but dumb as I am I just can't find out how to fix it. Below are 2 screen shots the good one (top) is what I get with FF, Opera, Safari and all other browsers. The floating stupid looking one (bottom) is the view with IE. Is there a fix at all for this. It has just about driven me crazy. I've tried pretty much every manipulation of the .css possible and believe me that's real lot and no matter what I do I can't get IE to look anything like the rest.

Cheers - Neil :)

Yes I am the one that had this same problem. You need to change the br code in the forumhome template.

Replace:
Code:

<br style="clear: left" />
With:
Code:

<if condition="!is_browser('ie');"><br style="clear: left" /></if>

ubeaut 07-05-2008 12:23 AM

G'day Bob - OK so I guess I insert the below into the template. But being as how I'm a bit on the dumb side, where exactly in the template would it go?

<if condition="!is_browser('ie')"><br style="clear: left" /></if>

I have tried it in several places to no avail.

Quote:

I don't have the clear br tag in my templates only in the above.

I am using 1,01 not ajax does this make a difference?

Cheers - Neil

OsideRida06 - was doing this post while yours went on didn't see your reply but still can't get it to work.

OsideRida06 - was doing this post while yours went on didn't see your reply but still can't get it to work.

Are you sure you are using 1.01? It may make a difference, but I am not actually familiar with 1.01!

ubeaut 07-05-2008 06:44 AM

Yes King - definitely 1.01 in vB 3.6.8, 3.7.2 going on tonight I hope - 1.5 hadn't been made when I put the tabs on. It works brilliantly in every browser I can get my hands on, but on IE it's woeful and I now understand why so many of my members have said they don't like it.

I never use IE so I had no idea how bad it looked until I had to use ie on someone else's computer. Imagine my shock. I use several browsers to check all my site design for compatibility, but rather then ie I use Opera in ie emulation mode. It works fine with that. From now on I'll use ie to check the look of pages. Lesson learned.

Sorry about the rant.

Cheers - Neil :)

ubeaut 07-05-2008 07:04 AM

Just as an aside. one thing I have noticed since putting on the tabs is that my Google clicks dropped almost overnight to be the lowest they've been in the 6 years I've had them on, I have managed to claw back up to 25% of what they were before over the last few weeks from a low of almost 10%. I am prepared to tough it out till I can find an answer to the problem as I really don't want to lose the tabbed pages.

My only way around it seems to be to go back to the big untabbed page I used to have (around 100+ forums) and make it the deault for guests.

Has anyone else found the same problem? If so have you found a fix for it?

I guess for most forums the revenue from Google ads is quite small, I don't want to get into earnings in an open forum, all I will say in public is, my Google revenue was extremely substantial and to have it drop by around 90% is a very, very big problem.

Cheers - Neil :)

Has anyone had issues using this hack with PhotoPost? I get an error.

I believe Bobster posted an XML to fix that. It shouldn't effect the PM popup. I will do some testing with Bob and see if the problem occurs in the newest version.

OK - Issues... On my testboard I am seeing no tabs - just underlined links which open up in a new page. The page is a whitepage basically, with missing graphics and no css - Pics below....

I've scanned this thread and haven't seen anyone with such an issue.

Help please AND Thanx so much BOBSTER for sharing this wonderful modification - I'm so hoping I'll be able to use it on the new style I've almost finished customizing!

Make sure the paths to the .css and .js files are correct inside of the template. Also, attempt adding the entire URL into the path.

Hmmmm - This is interesting - waiting to see if anyone else has noticed such a trend with adsense. I'd generally say that most clicks come from unregistereds having found your forum via search engine, as opposed to Members or unregistereds browsing via the main forum index... Makes me say hmmmm anyway...

OH! One thing... I noticed too that my adsense clicks had been down for the week - Waaaaay down actually, now that you mention it. I'd checked earlier for the 7-day total and it was 50% what it usually is. THAT makes me say hmmmmmm. I wonder if others have noticed anything? Apparently Google is retiring Referals in August... I don't run any referals though... Weird - the thing is - I'd only installed Tabbed Forum Home this evening...

So for the moment = INSTALLED!
Thanx for a wonderful modification - gives the board a very clean and uncluttered appearance :) But what the hell is up with google?!?!?!?

Hey dude,

Just wondering if there are any news/updates with v2? I'm still having trouble combining this with this mod

Sharapova 07-07-2008 04:16 PM

Please take a look at my site:

http://www.ozvirtualsports.com/forum....php?styleid=9

Seems to be some sort of link issue maybe?

I'm positive i've done all the right things, I'll continue searching the thread, up to page 12 now. Just getting it in so I can get a faster reply

it can't find the .css

In the FORUM HOME Template, find this code .. remove the two forward slashes in red below.

Code:

<!-- Tabbed Forum Home Header Code -->
        <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/clientscript/tabs/ajaxtabs.css" />
        <script type="text/javascript" src="/clientscript/tabs/ajaxtabs.js"> </script>
<!-- /Tabbed Forum Home Header Code -->

Sharapova 07-07-2008 04:38 PM

Alright I went back 1 page and saw that I had to put /forum before a few things

Now I've got another issue/question, how do I get the buttons (tabs) to look like a gradient instead of solid colour?

Didn't even see your post, very quick answer, thanks.

I assume you have your google code in your footer template correct? I know that this doesn't effect it directly, however, when you click on a tab, its not refreshing the footer, so each tab click won't get you a google click. You could try and also imbed the google code into each tab, so everytime a tab gets clicked, it counts.

There is no way that this would cause a 90% reduction.. I could see a slight reduction based on the fact that instead of a user refreshing the forum home page to see if something new was posted, they now would click a tab which only refreshes the info within the tab container (not hitting the google code in the footer) .. this slight reduction can be resolved by adding the google code to the FORUMHOMETAB template (as well as keeping it in the footer)

All that is done via the CSS File :D

Sharapova 07-07-2008 04:56 PM

Any chance you could help me with that? :p

I was looking for something similar to:

http://www.bbwforums.net/

With the margin set up like that too. :)

Default Colour: #000000
When Clicked: blue/gradients/gradient_tcat.gif

Would very very much appreciate it. If you were looking for a very small fee I could give that too. :p

Sharapova 07-07-2008 05:14 PM

Actually, all I need to know is how to set background colour as an image. :)
