Lexserv 12-07-2010 08:07 PM

Good question. If the fix was posted a few years ago, why wasn't the add-on updated here????

MrD 01-15-2011 08:13 AM

Hi,
if a Thread will edit, the Rewrite URl are double.

Reece^B 04-03-2011 04:28 PM

Thanks @ the German Vbulletin Team!

Awesome. I too never saw the earlier post but went on the hunt again today only to find this fix!

And it seems to have fixed the problem! Woo!

The_Hawk: Which post # are you referring to where this fix is mentioned?

Thanks in advance.

I used this one: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....&postcount=479

Which seems to be working OK, will keep an eye on it to see how it goes.

Lexserv 05-02-2011 11:09 PM

Ok, cool. Let us know if there's any problem with the fix.

Thanks again.

TonicWater 04-29-2012 05:24 PM

hi, i want to use this addon for ebay.de (germany) affiliate programm, but i cannot choose ebay.de in the "Placement ID" menĂ¼. how can i use ebay.de affiliate program?

jderouen 06-30-2012 04:45 PM

I don't have an eBay affiliate account and am setting this up for someone else. When it asks for Campaign ID and Custom ID, what exactly is it looking for? They said their campaign ID was links-chopsticks. Does that sound right?

jderouen 06-30-2012 04:49 PM

They also said they have a ten-digit ID. Do I have to put that somewhere as well?

creativepart 06-30-2012 05:37 PM

No, links-chapsticks is not their campid it sounds like their logon username. You'll need to have their "campid" -- each website and campaign in their EPN has a separate campid # -- either they need to give you access to their EPN account or they need to be smart enough about their account to know how to look up their campid. It's easily found in their EPN account.

The Custom Id is optional and is for custome tracking purposes only.

The 10-digit number is the campid -- they log into EPN and click on the "Campaign" tab to see the campids for their account.

jderouen 07-01-2012 12:33 AM

Got it to work, much thanks!!

andy626 08-02-2012 02:33 AM

Very tempted to put this on my forum as it would be a sure winner!!!

Has anyone been banned from EPN for using this mod?

Does it violate their Code of Conduct in anyway?

creativepart 08-02-2012 01:08 PM

It's perfectly allowable. I have an EPN rep and he is well aware of the way this rewriting is done and has said it's perfectly acceptable.

I've used it... for 4 or more years.

andy626 08-02-2012 08:54 PM

Thanks for the reply, good to hear...I'll give it a whirl!

LanciaStratos 08-02-2012 10:53 PM

I haven't used this plugin since I signed up for VigLink (in disclosure, that's my affiliate link, but I'm not otherwise connected with the company). It's just some JavaScript that sits in your footer and automatically converts any link (to eBay, Amazon, or any other site which has a large referral program) to an affiliate link.

If you want to get the referrals from eBay yourself, you should just use this plugin, but it's quite old now.

Jah-Hools 09-20-2012 10:31 AM

I have been going cross-eyed trying to read up on the geographic eBay region functionality - after page 14 - I am posting this!

if you have

70% USA eBay links
10% UK eBay links
5% German eBay links

Do you loose out on the UK & German ones if you set USA as default?

Thanks in advance

creativepart 09-20-2012 11:54 AM

You'll only receive credit from EPN for the USA links if you set the US as the default.

Skimlinks is another company that does this -- I've used both Skimlinks and Viglinks and find Skimlinks has been much better in every metric. One good thing about Skimlinks is that you can run it and still rewrite your own links, too. Skimlinks ignores any link on your site that already has an Affiliate code on it.

please Update your plugin! ;)

Quoted links is causing redirect loop browser page errors. Any idea how to resolve that?

You can do this with VigLink also -- but I don't use it. Reason being, if someone else posts their affiliate link, I want it rewritten so I get the credit.

Ive tried both also and VigLink does much better for me. Also VigLink is a US based company, Skimlinks is EU based.

Will this work on 4.2

pjkcards 11-12-2013 07:14 AM

A link was posted on my site today such as lodebay.com. All of their links redirected to ebay.com, even though it wasn't supposed to. I imagine this was because the domain has "ebay" in it. This appears to be a bug. Anyone have a quick fix to it? I'm willing to pay for a solution.

Thanks!

creativepart 11-12-2013 01:28 PM

This has been a problem for a long time. But the magnitude of the problem is so small that it's a non-issue. And the way EPN is paying these days it's possible that lodebay will pay better - j/k.

It is somewhat of a big issue. I've had to disable this mod on the entire site, which generates a decent amount of revenue via EPN. How do you deal with these links? People are complaining about them redirecting to ebay, so I've had no choice but to disable this until I find a fix.

The_Hawk 11-14-2013 08:52 PM

I'm going to start by saying I'm no expert, but have looked at the code for the last couple of versions.

What version of the mod are you running anyway?

When I look into the re-write it's only supposed to match things with '.ebay.'
Code:

// check if this URL is an eBay one
        if (!strpos($parsedurl['host'], '.ebay.'))

Does your alternative URL contain .ebay. (with both dots) or is this mod searching wrong??

PS. If you are grabbing a new version to update, just remember you may need to apply this little fix back form post 334/479:

Ah, I'm running version 1.2. Perhaps that is the issue. Thanks for the info.

Jah-Hools 04-22-2014 01:43 PM

How is Geo targeting handled with this?

Is it still operational?

creativepart 04-22-2014 03:33 PM

Unfortunately, Geo Targeting isn't handled by this. You'd have to change the plugin yourself.

It still works for me on 3.8, 3.7 and 4.1.

Of course, Ebay changed the EPN program last year and we all earn 60% less under the new policies.

Alternatively, you can use Skimlinks or Viglinks instead - and they will Geo Target for you. But you'll give up 25% of the income to them in commissions.

But overall I think Skimlinks is an excellent way to handle this. It all depends on how much you earn. If you're earning $5000 a month in EPN via a direct rewrite then you don't want to give 25% to anyone. But if you're only earning $900 a month then why not and give up the hassle of doing it yourself.

It rewrites all Ebay links - regardless of any other factor. In fact, it will rewrite a URL like "galebay.com" because ebay.com is contained in the URL.

I'm sure this could be updated, modified and improved. But few folks rewrite their own Ebay any more because of the services that will do it for you with greater efficiency. Though I don't because they take 25% of the income as a commission.

Skimlinks is one of those services and they will automatically ignore all links on your site with an affiliate code - you can use this to rewrite your Ebay links and let Skimlinks pick up the rest.

Will skimlinks do what this mod does for ebay?

Yes, pretty much. Except you can't change the affiliate ID to your own in Skimlinks, so everything would go through their system.

Reece^B 05-03-2014 06:26 AM

Understood, does this mod still work properly? I know somewhere in this thread someone made a edit?

At 1 point when you clicked an ebay link on my site it wasn't taking you to the item just ebay just gave a error message. Now they seem to work, but does EPN still pay you for links?

tpearl5 10-06-2014 12:01 PM

FYI, while this mod may work but it is missing the tracking pixel and the pub ID.
I made a new mod for 4.x that rewrites the EPN links on the fly, selects the network based on the ebay domain, will not overwrite existing links with your ID in them, and adds in the tracking pixel: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=314726
