That depends on the shutdown setting.

control1110 12-14-2007 02:36 AM

So what your telling me is I can set it so it will not shut down the forum at all and still perform the backup with no problem? Also will it delete the old backup file once the new one is created?

Yes. That's how I run it.

No (unless the backup file name is the same).

control1110 12-14-2007 04:38 PM

ok thank you for your help

yeku 12-15-2007 08:31 AM

Not Installed Paul...no working, sorry

silvermerc 12-15-2007 11:40 PM

If installed like it says in the readme and when i try and run the task it says

Quote:

Database Backup

An error occured during the MySQL backup. Details (Could not open Destination SQL file for writing.)
but i dont understand why its saying it cant open the sql file, I dont want it to open it I want it to make 1 and save all the tables there :S

Iv set it to save to /home/(username)/backup which is chmoded to 777

Can anyone help?

djbaxter 12-16-2007 12:03 AM

1. That error means it isn't able to open a new file to write the backup. Since you've already said that the current backup directory is write-enabled, I'd assume it can't find the directory you've specified.

2. See if it will work under the forum directory - it may be balking at a configuration above the forum root.

silvermerc 12-16-2007 10:27 AM

I fixed it! Turns out it didnt work because I forgot the / at the begining on the file path :P Thanks djbaxtor

control1110 12-16-2007 09:57 PM

can this script be set to do multiple back ups a day?

control1110 12-16-2007 10:48 PM

im looking at vb scheduled task and I am trying to figure out how to set my backup to do a backup every 4 hours but I can't figure it out. any help would be great. Thanks

Paul M 12-17-2007 09:33 AM

I don't think you can set a vb cron to run every 4 hours.

Sevo 12-17-2007 02:17 PM

Ok I know this may be a lame question but I am new to this so here it goes...

I am trying to make the back up folder but I dont want it to be seen by the public... where in the root do i put it so the public cant see it. are all the forum folders able to be see by the public?

my root is
sitename/

all those folders after the / are able to be seen correct?

sorry for the questions but I am just new to this

thanks for the help

If you can't see the point then you don't need to worry about using it .....

I asked because I didn't understand what this was alright?..now I understand and it makes sense on what it does..maybe with a little more info I would of understood everything from the beginning.

yuriy 12-24-2007 09:23 PM

I have a question.. is there ANY way of having this SAVE my db+tables into one .sql file and NOT just the tables themselves??

and is it ok if I made a .htaccess file with "deny from all" inside the path/to/backup path?

1. Just set the combine setting to 1

2. Yep, that should stop anyone accessing it.

Thank you :), working nice!

chingon 12-29-2007 03:05 AM

Hello, I am a new guy and this is really great. The only problem is that I can only get it set up right to a folder below my forum. I have been up and down this thread trying everything but I can't seem to get it set up right. I am in shared hosting and I have read to check in phpinfo and all I can find is /usr/local/Zend/etc/php.ini I am trying to go off my root folder to admin/backups. Any suggestions? I guess maybe I'm getting too old for this.:)

Paul M 12-29-2007 09:37 AM

Check with your host - I would guess they have restrictions in place to stop you writing to folders outside of your web root (assuming that's what you mean).

chingon 12-29-2007 03:33 PM

Thank you for the reply. I am trying to write it to /admin/backups/ from my root, starting folder. I have been trying to do it by /../../admin/backups but nothing seems to work no matter how many dots or slashes I put.

I'n new at this so sorry If I don't make much sense.

Sevo 12-30-2007 03:31 PM

Ok sorry for the newb question but I have configured the mysqlbackupconfig.php and uploaded the xml file.. how do I adjust the timing of the back ups. I dont see anywhere this product in my Admin CP. How do I make the program run?

again sorry for the lame question, I am just now starting to figure Vb out.

thank you

chingon 12-30-2007 07:29 PM

Look in the admin cp under scheduled tasks and scheduled task manager. It should be called database backup. You can click edit for scheduling or click run now to see if it's working properly.

KW802 12-31-2007 04:50 PM

After two MySQL crashes in one week I was looking for a good backup solution and this does the job very nicely.

Between this hack and using WS_FTP's Synchronize utility I have a fresh backup on my local PC daily now. Eventually I'll do something to remove the old backups on the server but for now the solution is working nicely.

(And, looking the backup size of each individual table, I spotted a few things that I don't think would've normally caught my attention. Things like a 2gb ModeratorLog table! )

silvermerc 12-31-2007 04:53 PM

I thought you might want to know that this version doesnt work with vbulletin 3.7.0 BETA 3

This isnt the only hack that doesnt work but i get this error...

A conflict was detected in the bitfields. You cannot continue with the installation of this product until this has been fixed. The conflicts found were:
Bitfield Collision: credits_cantearn = prefixrequired

Paul M 12-31-2007 11:07 PM

Sorry but that error has nothing to do with this modification.

taydu 01-01-2008 03:48 AM

Paul,

For some reason this mod didn't run properly today. I started run for a while but never finish or end it. I set to close the forum when it back up, but 5 hours after it run the forum still close. So I when to task scheduler and run it manually it run ........ but then it never finish. Usually when it finish i going to say finish, with 0 error now it doesn't say that

SpArKs85 01-06-2008 11:14 AM

Everything was working fine since 16th dec. Until I noticed the forums stayed switched off for an unusual amount of time today. So I turned vB off, then on again to enable the forums. Ran the scheduled task manually and I got the following sql error and the forums got switched off and stayed off...

Code:

Database error in vBulletin 3.6.8:

Invalid SQL:

                        REPLACE INTO datastore
                                (title, data, unserialize)
                        VALUES
                                ('options', 'INSERT LARGE AMOUNT OF DATA', 1);

MySQL Error  : Table 'datastore' was locked with a READ lock and can't be updated

Paul M 01-06-2008 12:00 PM

The error is pretty self explanatory - something (else) has locked the datastore table, preventing it being updated.

Figures... How do I unlock it? I mean, if I manually run the task, it shouldn't be any different to a scheduled run correct? When ever I manually run the script the datastore is always locked. So I would assume it is or has been permanently locked. How would I remedy this?

Thanks Paul.

edgecutioner 01-06-2008 02:26 PM

This mod kinda ruins your skins, I noticed that after a few restores so if you had this problem, don't worry, just rebuild your styles on the "Update counters" and rebuild your styles and everything will be fine
--------------
Paul, is there any way to run this mod more than one time a day? If so, can you guide me please?

There is no way I can tell you what is locking it. Something has a read lock, the message is a bit odd to me because normally I would expect mysql to just queue the write, and process it when the read lock has gone.

This mod cannot effect skins as such, its read only. My guess is you store your css in files so you need to rebuild those files after a restore.

You can run it as often as a VB cron will allow (hourly if you want). However you will need to change the Time setting in the config so that the files have a unique timestamp, otherwise each run will overwrite the previous.

I have moved folders around on my server and all the files and folders are set to 705. I'm sure it has to be 755 or something? Could this be the cause?

Fixed: incorrect dump path in mysqlbackupconfig.php

afullcup 01-25-2008 10:16 AM

I have a strange problem with this hack. Each morning after this runs, the hover preview does not work (when you hover over a thread name and get a preview of the thread). Any clue what this might be conflicting with? thanks.

Paul M 01-25-2008 11:42 AM

There is no way this could have any effect on that.

afullcup 01-25-2008 12:30 PM

I thought it odd as well but disabled it and didn't have the problem anymore. After a week or so I enabled it again last night and this morning had the same issue. ?

pedroenf 01-25-2008 03:55 PM

Excelent mod. Installed. Thank you Paul. Regards.
