Oh, finally a real question :)

You may add another banner with click tracking enabled, which however never shows up (choose a location which isn't shown at your forums). Then, link this banner in your text ad and you are done. The link looks like: http://www.domain.tld/[forum/]rbs_banner.php?id=N, where N is the id of your hidden banner.

I've tested this successfully with the banner itself (and no hidden copy):
URL: http://www.domain.tld/
Click Tracking: checked
Text:
HTML Code:

<a href="http://www.domain.tld/forums/rbs_banner.php?id=40"><img border="0" alt="Statistics" src="http://www.domain.tld/stats/maps.png" style="background: url(http://www.domain.tld/forums/images/misc/world.jpg);" /></a>
Works! :)

You don't have to know what they mean, unless you want to change the default behaviour. Left alone, the rotating banner settings just work fine :)

Have you tried to setup a banner with the suggested template change? If not, please watch the movie end read the help. This product is not guessing where you may want to show banners, you decide and make a small change ... that's it :)

External links should be linked with rel="nofollow", while using an internal redirect has about the same effect. A direct link to another site (no rel attribute) has only sense if it is a business partner and you wish to exchange banners for ranking reasons. A directly linked external site reduces the own ranking of page by 1 point, while using rel="nofollow" does not have side effects.

I'm not sure I follow... I have a company paying me to have their link in a text ad. Could you give me an example of how I would write the link to give them the best search results while still using the click counter?

Thanks again

You don't want a text ad for a banner, you want a graphic (.jpg, .png, or .gif). Consider a full banner size of 468X60. Don't fill it with so much tiny text that nobody can read it. You link it to their site in the RBS options.

Don't ever mention to them that you have click tracking. Just sell the ad by telling them it will improve their Search Engine rankings, which it should if you have a busy forum. But you won't get a lot of clicks so you don't want them latching onto that as a measure of success.

This company didn't want a graphic banner, they wanted a text banner. They got what they wanted, I just want to make sure I'm getting them the most for their money.

I can't get this to work at all.

I just want to show random images somewhere that an ad would normally go and no matter what I do I can't get any of the images to show up.

I don't understand this mod and I followed the video...
