I've got to un-install this. I just dont like it. Its not integrated very well with the rest of the site and is too much of a pain in the rear end to use. Its like you guys are trying to insert your "zoints.com" site into my site. I dont like that.

Also, I'm having a hard time finding my "authentication" key.

Strike3ForumsMH 01-01-2008 11:21 PM

That's not really the intention of Zoints Local, but to each his own opinion I suppose.

I responded to your thread at network.zoints.com about an hour ago Josh. Happy New Years. :)

Josh,

I can't help but ask why you believe it is not integrated very well with the rest of your site and why specifically you say it is a pain to use. I have it installed on my site... that's why I ask.

It just seems like its a site of its own. Like its not really part of my site. It uses its own URL's for profiles and that messes with a lot of other plug-ins. It has its own navigation and features that aren't part of my site. The members are always having trouble using it and customizing their pages, most members dont even bother because it is just too hard and buggy.
A lot of the features either dont work or are just too much of a pain in the ass to use that its not worth it since there are better/easier ways to accomplish the same thing. Meebo for example is next to impossible to use.
I dont know, I dont mean to bad mouth it because obviously it has its uses somewhere and they have definitely put a lot of work into it. I respect and appreciate that. I just dont like how it seems to take on a life of its own and not integrate well with the site. I also dont like how it is always trying to connect back to zoints.com in one way or another. ect ect ect...

I've had it for about 6 months and never really liked it. I've worked on it a lot and tried to make it work but I've just never been happy with it. I've finally come to the point where I'd just rather have the standard profiles now then have to deal with it any more.

I'm not sure what you mean about not integrating with the rest of the site. Have a look at my own zoints pages on my site. The pages are not really intended to have any logic to them, I just have them up there to demonstrate some of the things you can do with zoints.

I like the capabilities Zoints provides. Just try something like this with without zoints: http://www.majorleaguetalk.com/forum...jdelasko&tab=1

hey, if it was just me and you, I'd be all for it. We could zoints it up all day and be zoints buddies. Its just that when you have a couple thousand members and they are always having problems with it and cant figure out how to use it, it gets to be more of a hassle then its worth. If I ever start a new site that only has like 5 members and you are one of them, then I'll use it again. Between the two of us, we'll have the most pimped out zoints profiles on the web. :)

thompson 01-03-2008 09:37 PM

is it compatible to 3.7 ?

Strike3ForumsMH 01-04-2008 02:10 AM

Hi Thompson,

We have yet to receive any compatibility issues with the latest beta version of vBulletin and Zoints Local. As it is beta software still, we cannot assure anything just given the nature of beta, but feedback regarding it's compatibility has been positive.

For me personally, it's not about zointing it up and being zoints buddies but rather the ease of which I can create custom content modules that provide a level of functionality that I couldn't begin to acheive without it, like this flash demo. I think it's pretty cool to be able to embed a browser module and java chat room on the same page without a bunch of vbulletin hacking. Let's see you do that some other way.

My site is fairly new so I don't have the luxury of thousands of members complaining yet. I have found the addon fairly easy to use although I will be the first to say that end user documentation is virtually non existent. What I plan on doing is producing a number of screen capture tutorials on how to use the various features. It is no small undertaking so it will take some time. I'd complain to zoints about the lack of end user documentation but considering what I paid for this addon, I think I'll cut 'em a little slack.

I like the fact that I can make available to users a huge variety of widgets like the ones on this site: http://www.springwidgets.com Any of these widgets are easily converted to a zoints block. IMHO, it opens up a world of possibilities.

I will agree with you in that inexperienced computer users may not be able to figure it out. Zoints is no more difficult than building a myspace page and I think somewhere around 5 million people have figured out how to do that....... well at least they've figured out the technical part of it..... most Myspace users are really aesthetically challenged and come up with some really gawdy stuff.

What are the plans of integrating this with vbulletin 3.7? What would be done with possible overlapping features?
