Have you uploaded the .htaccess file?
Basically: Google/Yahoo want the .xml/.txt file to be in the site's ROOT folder. We have to place it in the /forums/vbseo_sitemap/data/ folder for it to work. So, we create an .htaccess that goes in the root directory, so that when we try to hit www.rootdirectory.com/sitemap.xml, the .htaccess redirects the request to the correct location, but the Search Engine THINKS that the file is accessable at root. |
the site map is . you have to run the sitemap generator first then after your file is created you can link it like this. the .htaccess file will follow the direction even tho its in the data folder. make sure its chmod so it has access.
http://www.yoursite.com/sitemap_index.xml.gz |
ok. thank you for the quick advices guys. It was very helpful.
by the word rootfolder, i had the .htaccess in the forum folder. I take that i have to bring it out one level. I'll try it again and hope it works this time. thanks again. |

Is this truly working fine for vB 3.6.1 without vBSEO?
|
Works like a charm on 3.6.1. 2 or 3 days after a post is entered on my site for the first time; it's on the 1st page of google results for related keywords from that post. This hack is probably the most useful one I've added to my site.
